Chapitre 15: The Long Halloween part VII
"It's say, that if we want to meet with the True Holiday, we have to pass by you first"
Said Diggle with a gentle smile on his face. But when Tony heard what he said, to him that smile was one of a true demon.
"How did you know... I... I don't to help! Found someone else for that! Please, I'll do anything other than that!" said Tony in fear clearly not wanting to help. The other three glance at each other, before Diggle leaned towards him a little and said with a smile "I don't know why do you think that True Holiday is scary, but trust me soon enough you'll prefer meeting him than me"
Hearing that, Zucco shiver a little, but still replied "You don't know him. He's too ruthless! The first time we met, he killed his right hand just to show me that he won't hesitate to kill me if I don't do thing right!"
Diggle just stared at a Zucco pleading with no care. And when he assumed that the man was finished with his supplication, with a thought, almost all the oxygen around Zucco dispear. Making breath a difficult task for Zucco. "What.. Is.. Huh.. Going... On" said Zucco with difficulty. Diggle didn't reply immediately, he first place his hand on the top of the head of Zucco, and said "I heard somewhere that lack of oxygen could cause madness and phobia. Unfortunately for you, I want to test that theory before you start to talk"
A hour later, Diggle, Batman and Sleeping-Ghost finish with their 'interrogation'. Zucco told them that the True Holiday when he contact him with unknown numbers always meet him at the port in the docks 8.
"So, what are we going to do? Because its obvious that it's just a meeting point. Beside All we know about that Holiday, is that he's a guy with a carnaval mask" Asked Diggle to Batman.
"Well I can put cameras in it, just in case he use it to meet other people than Zucco. But in the meantime we should instead focus on the current Holiday, because Halloween is tomorrow, or should I said today. From what I can tell about the former Holiday, is that he focus his killing on the mob. He never attacked civilians before. And he always let something on the crime scene. I can't be sure, but let assume that the True Holiday chose them because of their grudge on the mob. And if the new one will kill, because of the message he left on Dent desk, I think that this one too will leave some clue or riddle who will lead us to him" that statement didn't make happy the other two because they know that nothing much can be done except waiting.
But then, Diggle suddenly had an idea. "Wait, there's something we can rely on to find the new Holiday. Killers like them won't attack some mob in the streets, but big shots. Maroni and Falcone have fallen. Meaning that their organisations are in civil war for the leadership. Sophia is the only one left in Gotham in the Falcone family so its most likely her who will the next Don. As for Maroni's family. No matter who take the Don name, without Salvatore they won't worth much. Meaning that we have to focus on Sofia. Sofia is the next Don, but we know that she don't want to be the leader of Gotham, but Pingouin want to. And at this moment, he's likely the biggest shot in underground world in Gotham because he's the 'only' one left"
Understanding the implications Batman followed "So you're saying that the new Holiday next target is Pingouin? That's a possibility, but there's still the question of why sending those false clues to Harvey Dent. Well, I will dig more deeper in all this and call you if I find anything. You two, better go home and if your mom ask how did you came just say you take my jet. In the meantime I have some paper works to complete for the Grayson kid" saying that, Batman didn't wait for any reply and just left.
After that, Diggle and Mallory did as he said and just left. When they reached their home, Mallory just went in her room without a sound because she's supposed to asleep. Leaving a Diggle nervous in front of the door. 'Come in, it's just me returning home' he said in his head to reassure himself, he then take a deep breath and rang at the door.

Few hours later, after a touching meeting between a mother and her son, the group went to the Police station were Dick Grayson and Bruce were already.
When they arrived, they saw the two coming out with Bruce holding two big suitcases. "Hey Diggle it's been a long time!" Said Bruce with a surprise face but was immediately cut by Marisa "Stop acting like that, I know that you picked him up in the airport before going to the Cir.. Er...." when she going to say the word, she suddenly remembered that Dick was there too "Well anyway, thank you for convincing him to come back Bruce, you don't know how much I'm happy to reunite again with him" Bruce nood back to her with a smile while he shook the hand of Diggle.
"Why don't we all go to my house? Like that, Dick won't be with just someone who he barely knows for his first day" Bruce propose, receiving a positive reply from everyone except the quiet Dick. As they all get in the cars, Diggle and Bruce Dragged behind to talk in privet. "So, what did you found?" asked Diggle with impatience. "Nothing good. The news didn't say it yet, but more than half of the mob were wipe out in a night by Dent, Joker and his gang. They only target the head of bosses and claim to search Holiday. Dent named himself Anarchy and apparently he vowed to kill all mob of Gotham. And Joker follow him just because he think that if they kill one of Holiday target, he'll came out" Bruce explained.
'Anarchy? How the hell did Dent do to become Anarchy? Is it because his face is still intact?' thought Diggle Incredulous before saying "As I see things, without leaders and because of the fear, bad things will happen. If the underground felt too much threaten, they may attack anyone in their sight. Even civilians" "Yeas, I now. This is why we have to stop that before we reach that point meaning today. Fortunately, I have a clue. Two actually. Do you remember the evidences that charged Dent as Guilty? In one of them, there was a riddle. A game of Hanged. The GCPD supposed that it was what Harvey was going to left beside his next victim, but I think it a message to him. It was saying 'After everything end, it you before the upright guardian' " hearing that, Diggle start to think
"The upright guardian? Is he talking about Batman?" he asked "No, I don't think so. Because Batman isn't really view as upright. He's a monster. I think that guardian is a reference to the police. And with you theory of only taking out big shots. The only upright cops knows by everyone is..."
"James Gordon!" finish Diggle surprised "But why does Holiday wants to kill Gordon?" "At first I was clueless, but then before the dawn came Tony Zucco was dead. Killed by Holiday. We all assumed that he don't kill in the daylight. Which is right. But night came two times in a day" replied Bruce, but before he could continue Marisa gesture to them to hurry. Giving them no other choices, the two went up in their car with the others.
But when Diggle resigned himself to hear the next part only later, Bruce send him a message.
<Holiday left behind a Hanged game. It's say 'Not even the former ruler of the whole city will be saved'>
Reading the message, it was obvious that it didn't point Zucco but the next victim. 'The former Ruler...it can't be dead so it's surely Pingouin. But the problem is, Pingouin never ruled the whole city entirely. In fact nobody in the underground did' thought Diggle while frowning. He wasn't that a genius like Bruce when it come to investigation, but he wasn't that bad either. 'In the underground... Wait, who said it have to be in the underground world? If its not, the ruler of the city is the Mayor!'
Having found the solution, Diggle texted Bruce and got a reply immediately after, but what he read next make him surprised
<The True Holiday was here the night of the Mayor attack. I now what's the goal of Holiday>

Arikawane Here the chapter, and really sorry for the late update. I started some project recently and it took me quite some times to set it up. But I'm back with unfortunately a little change in my daily update. I will release for a while one chapter every two days. It's not permanent but because if don't do that I won't have time I have to for now. Thanks for understanding and happy 2019!!! ^^
