A clue.
When YueChen's feet touched the wet sand which was repeatedly washed by the rather calm waves, a flash crossed his mind. Or rather, Yuan Ji's mind.
When his feet lost their balance and he stumbled deeper into the water, which reached to his calves, Yuan Ji got a clue.
To his powers.
Right, Yuan Ji supposedly had a sword he rarely unsheathed. Its purpose was just for formalities, but there's something more to it than meets the eye. Zhen Ding Lang Jian (Calm Wave Sword) could cut through the storm and even the strongest tides. On other hand, it could also easily cause a disaster related to water, like tsunami. For that reason, Yuan Ji never wanted to unsheathe his sword. And Yuan Ji sealed his powers in that sword.
To describe it, only few words are needed: steel made, Japanese style, and dangerous.
Zheng Ding Lang Jian itself had a conscience on its own. Perhaps, the sword followed its master to mortal world. Yuan Ji suddenly got an urge to reclaim his weapon.
"Xing—no, YueChen." he stopped himself from calling his significant other's nickname.
"Hmm?"
"I remember now. Zhen Ding Lang Jian, my sword." He then proceeded to explain the weapon's nature to him.
When he finished, YueChen stood still and rubbed his chin. "We can't take it back."
"What?"
YueChen kept his voice low and elaborated. "This sword of yours, if it really did follow you to here, there's a big chance that it laid unclaimed in the depths. With my underwater skills, I can assure you that it won't be a good thing to take it. Even if we could take it, I don't think I'm able to hide it and bring it home. I'll get caught red-handed, A-Ji."
Yuan Ji knew that YueChen was true, so he didn't insist more.
"Come on, when the timing is right, I'll reclaim the sword for you." YueChen consoled. The boy got out of the water and continued his usual activities in the table time.
Yuan Ji, however, couldn't get rid of the thought in his mind.
A year passed, the tenth-grader Yang YueChen managed to make everyone proud. Yang YueChen managed to be the first rank in his school, in social studies courses.
Yang YueChen was also a student chosen to be participating in science studies, although he never got into the Science Olympics.
He was favored by many teachers for his good attitude and calm behavior, added to his brilliant brain. He however, stayed the same in socializing with his peers. OuLin and HuaLi took different course, he rarely met them anymore. When they did, it was always awkward.
His classmates, few despised him, few liked him, few used him, and others are neutral. He didn't trust anyone, only the voice in his mind.
Other than those, he also made a new friend. Guang YiLan, a smart student from OuLin and HuaLi's class. YiLan also participated in biology tutoring YueChen joined.
A lot of people—students or teachers—asked YueChen to consider his courses of choice. The boy certainly had talents, and perform better in science studies, yet he decided to learn in social studies class. Everytime they brought the topic, YueChen would always smile and said no. If they pursued further, he'd say that he wasn't great in physics and chemistry. Although he did great in biology, his score of that one study surpassed all the school's tenth grade students.
YiLan had few close friends, not counting YueChen. He was sociable and friendly, easy-going type of person. One of YiLan's friends befriended YueChen for a short while before accusing him and treated as if he was lower than earth itself.
Days passed like usual, nothing great happened, nor something bad. Except for occasional back-stabbing and misunderstandings, everything was normal. And boring.
There's a reason why the story was full of plot-holes, majorly because of there aren't anything fun to tell, since normal mortal daily life couldn't compare to immortal's.
Things began to change by the fourth years they shared a life. By the time YueChen was already in eleventh grade, they had collected five pieces of memories. Yuan Ji suspected that the other pieces might be beyond the border. Too risky to go, too alluring to say no.
Just one day, he got a clue, to Yuan Ji's question.
