At 7.30 pm, Sasha and I reached Eveline's neighborhood. I was clad in a wine-red dress with red ballerina shoes while Sasha chose a sapphire-blue dress and blue high heels to match her eyes. Additionally we also carried matching handbags to our outfits. We were forced to park several squares away from Eveline's house in order to ensure we did it legally, since all the closer spots were already taken.
"Damn, I sure wasn't born to wear high heels. These are killing me." Sasha complained while we walked towards the party.
The feeling of being observed by a psycho was no longer present, which mad me relieved.
"Then why did you choose to wear them?" I asked even though I already knew the answer.
"Because I am short, ok? A fortunate girl like you with a height of 176 cm wouldn't understand a 158 cm girl's problems." She grabbed my arm to stabilize herself.
"Why didn't you drink more milk when you were younger?" I teased her.
"Hah, like I haven't tried all the tricks to activate a growth spurt. They are all bullshit! The truth is that my genes suck."
"Well, I can't disagree to that. Both of your parents are giants, but still they got a short daughter like you..." I suddenly gasped and put dramatically my free hand in front of my gaping mouth.
"Don't tell me that there has been a mistake? That you were switched out with some other baby in the hospital after you were born and thus you aren't really your parents flesh and blood? Oh my, we have to do a throughout investigation and find your real parents."
"Haha, you are so funny." She narrowed her eyes and gave me an irritated look.
We soon arrived at our destination and was greeted by teenagers grinding at each other and clunking down alcohol at the fastest speed possible. Yepp, I already knew that I was going to regret coming that day. Just like I predicted, Sasha disappeared soon after our arrival among the crowd.
The music was way to loud for my taste, so I decided to find a more quiet place in the ear deafening house. Along the way, I got touched and whistled at by drunk classmates and strangers, which caused me to shudder in disgust. Why couldn't boys keep their hands to themselves?
I stopped at the kitchen to get some water from the sink, but immediately thought otherwise when I saw someone puke in there. There was no way in hell that I wanted to use the water tap when I couldn't be sure that it hasn't been contaminated.
I was just thinking about leaving here with or without Sasha, when I felt a light tap on my shoulder and turned around. An young man with lightbrown hair and grey eyes smiled at me. He had a boring black T-shirt and black jeans on, but still he could be qualified as handsome.
"Hi Mel!" He yelled.
"Jason! What a surprise!" Or not, because Sasha had received a message from Jason's best buddy that he would be here. I would however never admit that I recognized such a stalker as a friend.
"It is too loud in here! How about going out instead!?"
"Sure."
If Sasha was here she would probably be ecstatic about me speaking privately with Jason. She knew that I used to have a crush on him when we first began high school, but then he got a girlfriend and I eventually gave up. They broke up last year for unknown reasons. Some rumors claimed that his girlfriend cheated on him, while others claimed that he secretly liked someone else.
"So you have also decided to come?" Jason asked with one hand in his front jeans pocket and the other holding a bottle of beer. We were strolling in the neighbourhood, which was in the outskirts of the town.
I nodded.
"Yeah, you know, it is for the last time after all."
"I bet it was Sasha who dragged you here." He said knowingly.
"Is it really that obvious?" I laughed awkwardly.
"Pretty much. You have never been the one for parties."
He stared intently at me, which caused me to tilt my head.
"Is there something on my face?"
At my question, he turned his head around and seemed to observe everything but me. Was it a blush I saw spreading on his cheeks? It was pretty damn dark after all, so my vision couldn't exactly be fully trusted. What's more, a guy like Jason would probably never ge embarresed so easily.
"N-no, of course not." He inhaled deeply and then drank some beer, as if he was trying to calm down.
Alcohol had never been my favorite liquid, so it was hard to not feel distaste about it. I had seen too many times how drunk people embarrassed themselves and destroyed their lives. Of course I didn't express my thoughts, since they might come out quite offensive.
"I just want to say that you look beautiful. Especially in that dress." Now I was certain that he was hiding his red cheeks.
"Thank you, Jason. You are also quite handsome" I smiled. Months ago, I would probably have been over the clouds if he had said this to me, but now, I felt nothing special. My heart didn't beat faster and my blood didn't flow quicker.
"So, what are you going to do now? Continue playing in your basketball team for national championship?"
Based on the information I acquired when I still was crushing on him, I knew he loved basketball and was rumoured to be a true ace at it. He had never since the beginning of his career missed a single shot and many national teams wanted him with them. Currently, he was playing for Starway, who was classed among the top teams.
"Yeah, it has always been my dream."
I was just going to comment, when I landed my eyes on something terrible in front of me.
Oh my, what could it possibly be? xD
