Chapitre 3: The begining

In a white and soulless hospital room, six bodies layed on their bed, barely breathing. The sound of all the medical devices covered every other sounds the dozen of scientists and doctors made while analysing and treating the six persons.

Arthur Rainfrew stood there, not moving an inch from the side of his daughter. Laurene went back to their house to announce personally the cruel fate of Nora to her little sister, so before they came back, Arthur wanted to keep company to their eldest child. And keep an eye on those searchers too. His black and cold eyes darted all over the faces of the other people in the room, making everyone uneasy. No one dared to approach this lone man.

Until one old aged man opened the door and made his way toward him.

"You're lucky you called me in time, Rainfrew. Ten minutes later, she would've been gone."

"When will we know if she's healing correctly ?"

"48 h. But you could look at her new neighbors. They are in this state for two full weeks. And if I'm right they will wake up in six days."

"I don't care about the others. If your serum doesn't work, you better pray to die before I find you."

"Relax, you're scaring everyone. You can already witness the serum prevented your daughter from dying."

"In four days, I will leave the city for the capital. You'll be in charge. No mess, no problems."

"Leaving your daughter in my care ? It seems some waves are scaring the sharks of the government..."

"I deal with sharks, you deal with Nora."

Going out of the room, Arthur clenched his fists. It would've been easier if it was dealing with politicians. He knew how to do so. But this time, it seemed more complicated. He saw the footage videos of the accident. He couldn't see the face of the driver, but he searched for the car and found quickly who was the owner. Rainfrew family. How his daughter, a distant relative could be implicated with the huge mess of the main branch in the capital ? He needed to go back there and discover what happened.

6 DAYS LATER

The room of the hospital was quiet and peacefull. The six patients looked more healthy than a week before, and the doctors were overexcited by those results. The serum functioned perfectly, and if they could wake up, they were assured to get funds for their research, public recognition and glory among their peers. Right now, they could barely wait anymore. When the patient number 3 showed his first signs of waking up, they hardly supressed themselves from jumping around. Two doctors went by his side, a big smile on their face.

All of a sudden, the monitor he was connected to started to beep dangerously. The joyous ambiance changed instantly, and the doctors put all their energy to stabilize the patient. He convulsed and blood seeped through his lips. His face totally pale, the veins under his skin seemed to blaken and soon, his mouth turned dark. The panic and stress gained the doctors. Despite all their efforts, the situation was deteriorating.

Soon, the patient stoped moving. His heart wasn't beating anymore.

The practicians froze before this dead body, wondering where it went wrong. They released a disappointed sigh. But before they could tell themselves the experiment failed, the dead patient opened his eyes. And jumped at the first throat on his way.
