Chapitre 20: Chapter Twenty
The next time my conscienceness surfaced I heard my mother and a man speaking.
"Did you think about what I asked you, Alty?" The mans voice was soft and tender, layered with some kind of emotion.
"Yes, I will, but please let me tell my daughter before we announce it. I would feel so terrible if someone managed to tell her before I could..." My mom's voice was layered in emotions and I couldn't figure out what it was in my sleepy and half-dead state.
"Did you figure out what the poison was?" The man asks her and she sighs again.
"Yes, but I worry she won't handle the antidote well. It's rough on children's bodies, even though I administered it within ten hours of her passing out, she hasn't regained consciousness yet, and it's been three days! However Rose herself is very frail because of her magic abilities..." My mom stifled a sob and then they became louder, then muffled like she was crying into something.
"Shhhh, she'll be alright Alty. She will be fine." I drifted off into my feverish slumber.

When I awoke I was in the infirmary, not my own room. The window was open and the sun shone into the room. I couldn't see anyone, but the moment I moved I sensed a motion sensor spell go off, and then fast footsteps. My mother appeared moments later looking panicked then realizing I had simply woken up and smiled in relief.
"Oh, Rose your awake! You've been asleep for six days!" She cries at me, throwing herself into the seat next to my bed and began to examine me.

"Rose, there is something I need to tell you." I looked at my mother, whom had just finished my examination expectantly. It wasn't about the examination I knew, but about the man she had been talking to when I was asleep. To my surprise she suddenly blushed crimson.
"Well, your going to have a new father..." Wait. What? WHAT? Mom's got a fiancee? Why didn't she say she was seeing someone? Even so though, I didn't think she was over dad yet...
"Who? When?" I ask and her face got redder.
"Well, he is the current leader of the Magican branch of the army... We've been seeing each other for about seven... maybe ten months..." My mother blushed adorably and I looked at her hand to see a new ring. Her new engagement ring. Mom still wore my dad's rings too, and I felt a spasm of guilt for disappearing off somewhere most days and not being with her. But she also might not have meet her new fiancee if I had... Well, I will support her so long as he's a great guy! If he's half-baked and a jerk I will burn him!
"What's he like?" I ask and she blushes deeper and looks away.
"He's tall and handsome, and so very very kind. He's strong and is a knight as well as a Magican... He loves the sun and flowers, and he can cook too! He likes to read like you do as well! He thinks of incredibly romantic things for me and is so considerate! Even the King thinks he's decent, although I don't think he knows about us... Plus he adores kids and, his favorite color is yellow and his favorite food is Chicken and rice-" I had to interrupt her there.
"Alright, so your head over heels right? No need for a life story and detailed analysis mom." She blushed deeper again and I giggled so she blushed more. Mom is so adorable, she still looks so young, which isn't very surprising as she is only in her early early twenties, but she shows no weariness or fatigue. Mom looks like a teenager though, especially when she smiles.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, I am Luther Nightshade, and I will be your new father." He smiles as he extends his hand to me. I was still in the infirmary bed and was still recovering and incredibly weak.
"Nice to meet you, I hope we get along well!" I cheerfully say as I take his hand, and he smiles warmly. He had Ruby red eyes and red hair too, just like the gem!
"Hello, I am Rose." My reply was simple, but quite frankly I was exhausted. It was midday now, but as I was recovering still being conscious after three hours was amazing for me.
"Your still ill, so I will take my leave here, please rest and recover and I will come again another day." He kissed my mother's cheek before walking out and my mother stared after him. I decided it was better to fall asleep then and there to get away from that lovesick stare my mother had on my future step-father. Not dealing with that~
