5.7% Melting the Cold CEO's Heart / Chapter 12: First Day Of Work(1)

Chapitre 12: First Day Of Work(1)

Seeing that she was going to ask another question again, Rao hurriedly said, "Go! You don't want to keep the CEO waiting, do you?"

Hearing this statement, Liz quickly scurried out of the car before feeling a shadow fall on her.

Assuming that it was just the building, she looked up but stopped in her tracks, realizing that she was wrong.

The shadow was actually cast on her by a 6 and a half foot dark-skinned man who was wearing sunglasses and an earpiece, much like the ones she had seen secret agents wear in Hollywood Movies.

His muscular body was so wide that even though Liz had always thought her 5 foot 8 inches figure to be quite tall, she was dwarfed completely and even felt that one hand of his would be enough to lift her up and throw her to the side.

As she was about to shakily ask who he was, he spoke into the earpiece, answering the question for her, "Rao has made the drop. Sending the P.A. into the cafe. Don't repeat this, she needs to undergo a security briefing before she can even be in the CEO's presence."

They were clearly the guards of Mr. William Bradshaw.

With a slight frown on his face, the guard turned to her and said, "Good Morning, Miss. I apologize for the hold-up- as you've just entered the company, you haven't gone through the normal protocols. Please hand over your bag for checking and step through the scanner.

Looking past the guard, Liz noticed that they were actually at the back entrance of the cafe where a setup much like the one found in airports had been put into place in the empty alley-way.

The shining metal of the bag and metal detected looked very out of place beside the half-full garbage cans and the peeling paint of the walls around them.

Liz knew that important people had more security, but was this much necessary? It wasn't like her employer was some top government employee, right?

Keeping her thoughts to herself, she did as instructed and walked through the metal scanner before waiting for her bag to be checked.

Today, she was wearing a cream-colored blouse over a similar pencil skirt which was brown instead of black. Although her hair was considerably less glossy than before because she hadn't had the time to do it up, it was in a sleek pony as she had no intention of using pins ever again.

As she remembered what had happened in the CEO's room before, she blushed slightly as she entered the cafe making it so that when Mr. William looked up from the paper he was reading to see her arrive, he saw a pretty woman whose cheeks were slightly red.

"Good morning. Take a seat.", he said, as if not noticing anything different in the woman he had hired to be his personal assistant.

As Liz had entered the dark cafe after being in the sunlight outside, her eyes still hadn't adjusted, causing her to pause and squint as she tried to make out where the source of the cold voice was.

After her eyes finally focused on the CEO, she was once again almost pulled into a tizzy of admiration seeing his perfect figure outlined by the beige suit he was wearing today.

Yet, the events that had happened in their first meeting seemed to have built up a resistance in her, as she resisted that urge to stare at him and answered in a slightly high-pitched voice, "Good morning."

'Good job, Liz. Now he knows your voice goes high when you are tensed.'

Ignoring this condescending inner voice of hers, she walked over to the old-fashioned cafe table before taking the seat.

Looking around, she noticed that this was a contemporary cafe which she had seen in many old movies. Seeing back-to-back sofas, a bar counter and a door with a bell, she felt as if she had been transported back in time to the 1980s when cafes like these could be seen all over the U.S.

Along with the paper, Mr. William had a cup of coffee and a plate of unfinished pancakes in front of him.

Seeing her eyeing them, he asked, "Would you like something before we leave? Bill will prepare it for you, and you can have it on the flight."

"No thanks, I ate before coming," she answered instinctively, before comprehending the second part of the CEO's statement.

"Good. Your personalized tablet to check our agenda is on its way as we speak. Let me tell you the first order of business. We will be flying to Los Angeles for a meeting to close a 200 Million dollar deal. After that, we have lunch with the Mayor who wants to propose something."
