Chapitre 3: Heartbeat

"In three words, I can sum up about what I learned about love: it goes on."

-Robert Frost

Marco

...

The blue eyes in front of me were incredible, like sapphires gleaming in the light. I couldn't take my eyes off of them. A loud screeching noise was made when the chair was pulled back. I shook my head to snap out of my trance. "Oh, yeah. Go ahead," I muttered.

"Well. How are you enjoying the tea?" the man said. I smiled. "It's great. Perfect for a chilly day like this," I sighed. Feeling the steam of the hot tea hitting against my face as I looked down into the ceramic. The heat of the mug still radiating my hands with heat, protecting them from the winds that would eventually push through the doors with every passing customer. "Can I make a recommendation?"

I looked up.

"I would highly recommend the the Chai tea. It's amazing. The cinnamon flavour just makes you feel so warm. Of course you should have milk and sugar."

I smiled. I liked this guy, the guy with blue eyes. Wait... There's no way I can like a man.

"Heh, sorry. I haven't even introduced myself. Name's Liam," he said as he reached his hand out.

"Oh, nice to meet you Liam. I'm Marco," I responded as I shook his hand. My heart skipped a beat, feeling his hand against mine was just surreal. I didn't want to let go, but Liam pulled away, so I did too. "What brings you here Marco? You don't seem like the lonely type. Where are all your friends?" he asked. I smiled at him. "Well, I am the lonely type, not that many people know me. The only time when everybody did see me was today, at the worst possible moment," I managed to speak, while eyeing down at my tea and Liam.

"What happened Marco? You can tell me. I'm pretty trustworthy," Liam comforted.

I sighed.

"One of my old friends, embarrassed me in front of the entire school. Really embarrassed me... More or less tainted my school rep."

"Well, what'd they say?"

"Nothing other than every girl that I've been with would break up with me because I'm a quiet little pussy," I groaned rubbing my temples.

"Ouch. Hey, things will get better. I promise," Liam said grabbing my hands. My heartbeat skyrocketed. My stomach twirled into knots and my brain was going to explode. But there was no way in hell that I could be in love with a man, no way is this going to get worse. "Here, give me your phone number."

I was wrong.

"W-wait what? Why?" I perked up and asked him. Blushing furiously probably, almost spilling my tea. "Just so that we can keep in touch. And if you ever want to talk or catch up. Y'know?" Liam casually answered.

"O-oh. Yeah! Sure," I stuttered as I pulled out my phone and handed it to him. He punched in some numbers and handed my phone back as he grinned. "There, well, call me whenever you feel down or anything."

I smiled. I was happy. Maybe for the first time in a long time, but being around Liam made me feel fuzzy. Things were odd between us. No, shut up Marco... You don't like him. No way. "Well, I gotta go. My break is almost over," he smiled as he glanced over at his watch. I couldn't help but smile with him. He stood up and left me, leaving me with only his blue eyes in my memory.

...

I was walking alone on the cobblestone path in the park with wind blowing against my back. I pulled on my sweater's sleeves and tucked my hands into my pocket. I breathed out and a cloud poofed from my mouth. I looked around the park and watched the multi-coloured leaves fall down from the trees.

"Marco?" a familiar voice yelled behind me. I knew exactly who it was. I got chills down my entire spine. Thinking about that one person made my blood boil. "What!?" I screamed at the top of my lungs as I turned around, and I was happy that I did. I was right, it was him. Jake moved back, holding his hands up, looking at me. I did a full one-eighty and stomped away from him. "My god. Come back here! We need to talk!" he called behind me. I scoffed and kept walking until the nearest bench was in view. I stopped and listened for if Jake was still on my ass.

Crunch.

Crunch.

The sounds of leaves crunching under his feet were mimicking me. I knew he was still behind me, and if I wanted him to leave me alone, I would have to talk to him. I slowed down when I reached a wooden bench and sat down. In the corner of my eye, I saw Jake slowly inch towards me. "Dude, can we talk?"

I rolled my eyes and scoffed. "Fine, make it quick though. I don't want to spend too much time with shitheads like you."

Jake sat down next to me. "Look, I'm sorry for what I said. I just got frustrated man. Sorry," he muttered. I gave a sarcastic chuckle, I was going to disregard anything that was going to come out of his mouth.

"You really think that after you said, a few words will fix everything? I'm pretty much a freak now! Now no one, and I mean no one! Will want to date me. Thanks to you. Fuck you Jake," I screamed into his face.

"Is there anything I can do to make you at least like me again?"

"My god, you're so naive. Nothing you do will make us friends again!"

"Please. I want to be friends, it's been so long since we've actually talked! You always push me away like I'm some kind of animal!"

"That's because you are an animal, Jake! You disregard everyone's feelings! How do you believe that I could forgive you!? You embarrassed me in front of the ENTIRE school! You only care about yourself! On the first day I met you, I knew it! I knew I shouldn't have talked to you!"

I was boiled. I was tense. Clenching my fists and restraining myself from wanting to punch Jake in the face. He was never like this. Why is he like this now? Just thinking about him made me want to explode. His face, his hair, it looked all so punchable.

"What do you want still?! Leave me alone! Nothing. And I mean absolutely nothing you do, will make me like you or see you as a friend anymore. Period!" I barked at him without holding back.

"Well..."

"Well wha-"

That's when the sudden feeling of Jake's lips pushed against mine.

My heart beat thumped against my chest.

Woo?

Not really my cup of tea, but I hoped you enjoyed it.

I haven't really had experience with these types of novels. My apologies if it isn't as good as you have hoped. But trust me, things will most likely get better!
