Chapitre 12: A true tamer‘s fate

I excelled in the arts of hiding sneaking and ambushing.

My target didn't even catch a glimpse of my shadow when the sabreteeth sunk into his heart and sliced through his neck simultaneously.

The wolf that pounced on this man quickly reacted when it realized that its powerful fangs and claws wouldn't be needed here but even more against the other two men who started a dire fight against its two companions its master and my little racer.

It joined the fight alongside its master.

The whip cracked a few times in the meantime and the leather armour the middle man wore was perforated with holes but likewise did one of the wolves receive some damage as could be heard from its whimpering while doing everything not to put any weight on his left hind leg's paw.

Little racer and the third hunter were somehow in a stalemate. The Lizards teeth were not sharp enough to cause serious damage after piercing through the leather and the hunter was too slow to damage little racer at all.

*Good boy! Just distract him for a while longer* I commanded within my mind while slowly closing the distance between us.

The man decided to go into offensive battle because his defence was not working at all confronted with a foe that excelled in speed.

Both, little racer and the third hunter prepared to charge at each other but when the hunter wanted to charge he did not only see the racer lizard but another body as well.

He was shocked to see that it didn't have a head. This was his last thought.

I had sliced his head cleanly off his body.

This caused the third wolf to immediately rush at the second hunter who was still doing his utmost to evade the whipping and hit the remaining two wolves with his sword.

When the third wolf charged at him he was clearly overwhelmed by the four enemies who had encircled him. He was then shredded to pieces before I could acquire any information of Natalie's whereabouts.

The fight only took a few seconds but except for little racer and I everyone who participated in this battle suffered quite a lot. The wolves had already started devouring the meat of the three hunters while little racer waited for me to give him permission.

When I nodded it took off towards the body of the third hunter with an extreme acceleration. He probably didn't want to share a lot with the wolves because he thought of this man as his prey and his prey alone.

Drake seemed hungry as well but we decided not to eat humans since I was one in my previous life.

Meanwhile the young woman looked at me with hints of suspicion and respect in her brown eyes.

I wondered what she might think of me. She should definitely be thankful for me saving her because she would have failed defending her pets for sure. While I was still in thought about what happened recently she bowed a little and told me: „Thank you for helping me out. I have never seen hunters as strong as these. They could perhaps even rival our elders in the village." She thought of something and asked with hope and admiration in her eyes: „are you an adventurer? The elders taught me that there are people in bigger cities who call themselves adventurers and they can compete with almost every beast and win. There are lots of different classes but tamers such as us are very rare because we focus more on our familiars than on our own abilities which is a weakness as the elders said. But you seem quite adept at fighting although you

have such a strong creature with you. It is a racer lizard, isn't it? They are at least as strong as adult direwolves and probably three times as fast. You seem to be fated to be a tamer-class adventurer. Oh uhm, could you tell me your name please? I am Theresa"

„I am Valentinus but you may call me Val. I am sorry for not introducing me sooner."

Suddenly another voice could be heard.

„Massster Valentinus, why are you talking to thissss lowly human?" Gabriel slithered towards us holding his weapon and guiding the deer

For Theresa this did obviously not sound like a human voice. For her it was a hissing more dangerous than the hissing of the deadliest snake

„N-N- Naga" she stuttered, obviously fearing her life might end any second now.

„Damnit Gabe! Don't frighten her! Can't you talk the mortals' language?"

„Yesss Milord. I shall do as you command"

He then continued to talk more or less in a human way but he still couldn't suppress the hissing.

„there isss no need to fear me. Lord Valentinus has obliged me to be friendly towards your kind and I shall do as he commands."

The girl was dumbfounded.

„you... you can command a Naga?!? Marvelous! You are definitely a true tamer who is fated to become an adventurer one day. Ouch." she tried to walk but the second hunter had sliced her lower left leg and applying pressure would cause tremendous pain.

„Gabriel" I commanded „help her mounting the deer"

After that I jumped on the deer as well positioning myself behind her in case she might faint and drop off the deer.

„We can't leave you here in the wilderness. Where is your village? We shall bring you there before we continue our journey."

Theresa seemed hesitant but showed the way in the end.

It was only an hour on the deer's back when

I told Gabe to wait before we entered the village because the villagers needed to be prepared because a Naga was usually not friendly towards humans.

They were in awe when we entered. Many men were impressed by the tamer who could even subdue a Naga and the women and children hid behind many small things because they were still frightened by the giant snake-like creature.

We finally arrived at the centre of the village where there were a lot of people but upon seeing Gabe they quickly dispersed.

A person walked out from among the masses. He was accompanied by two creatures: a big direwolf and a sabre tooth black bear. I was impressed. Right now I still needed a good strategy to take down a beast such as the bear. It was obvious that this was an elite of this village.

The man introduced himself.

„I am the village chief. My name is Maverick.

I am truly grateful that you saved my daughter and her familiars from these wretched hunters. We, the tamers, train our creatures from a very young age. Some of them accompany their tamer since their birth.

Those evil hunters try to kill and harvest the beings we spend lifetimes to tame and nurture. They are our nemeses."

„In that case we share this enemy" I said while looking at the chief and then at Gabe „some of them kidnapped Gabriel's little sister and we try to find them"

The village chief contemplated for a moment before saying: „since some of their comrades were slayn they might come to our village to avenge them. Therefore I can't leave but I will lend you my best scouts. They can find the hunters no matter how much they disguise their trail and scent. After you have rescued your friend I welcome you to celebrate with us. You three shall be our honored guests"

With these words two hooded men walked towards me and Gabriel accompanied by five dogs and two birds each.

I smiled internally because with this much tracking creatures even the slightest trace of the hunters would be discovered. It was only a matter of time until we found them.

As long as Natalie was still alive we would definitely be able to get her back from them.
