When she had gotten home that day, Lu AnLing had planned to call to arrange a meeting with her mother, however, as soon as she walked through the door, she laid eyes on Kang Mingyu and Kang Mei Xue; both looking dejected.
Seeing Lu AnLing and Kang Jun come home, the two kids ran up to them.
With confusion, the couple looked at Rong Lihua and Rong Xin.
Rong Lihua shook her head, "I don't know what's gotten into them."
Looking down at the kids, neither Kang Jun nor Lu AnLing knew what to do because they didn't know what was wrong.
"We're we bad?" Kang Mingyu asked seriously as he held onto Lu AnLing.
Hearing this, Lu AnLing frowned and then she looked up to Rong Lihua and Rong Xin who shook their heads in confusion.
"You don't want to leave us, right?" This time, it was Kang Mei Xue who asked a question.
Lu AnLing felt her heart squeeze. "No! Of course not! Why would you say that?"
Hearing this, Kang Mei Xue and Kang Mingyu lifted their pitiful faces and looked deeply at both Lu AnLing and Kang Jun. Their little hands shook as they held onto both their parents for dear life but they did not answer her.
Children were truly smart. They could easily tell when a person's mood was sour or joyous and for the past couple of days they had noticed Lu AnLing and Kang Jun's uneasiness and for some reason, this made them feel like it was their own fault.
Somewhere deep inside, that morning, when Lu AnLing and Kang Jun had left, Kang Mingyu and Kang Mei Xue felt as if they had been abandoned but the feeling had not hit them until Kang Jun and Lu AnLing had walked into the house.
"Can we really call you mom?..." Kang Mei Xue asked randomly, in a soft voice, as she looked at Kang Mingyu from the corner of her eyes.
"Of course you can." Lu AnLing said almost chocking. She wanted to scream at the top of her lungs that she truly was the girl's mother but she didn't think it was the right time to do this since it would just confuse the girl when she and Kang Jun did not have all the answers. "Why do you ask?"
"Well... because mommy Lan never let Mingyu call her mommy... and if he can't call her mom, then she's not my mom either then." Kang Mei Xue explained her train of thought as well as she could despite being overwhelmed with feelings. In the beginning, the girl had not been too affected by the negative aura but as soon as she had seen a change in Kang Mingyu, she had also begun to feel horrible.
This had always been like this. Even when Qiao Lan was in charge of them. Since Kang Mingyu had never been happy, neither had Kang Mei Xue...
Nowadays, though, she was almost always happy so sadness really affected the girl. And it was when she realized how long Kang Jun and Lu AnLing had been gone for her to realize that she missed them a lot.
After Kang Mingyu has spoken to Lu AnLing on the phone, both kids had regained their happiness but when the couple didn't come as soon as the kids had expected, Kang Mei Xue had truly thought that the couple had abandoned them.
Kang Mei Xue was used to being left alone for long periods of time due to Qiao Lan's way of being but she always came back within a week. However, when it came to Kang Jun and Lu AnLing, Kang Mei Xue didn't know when the couple would be back. It could be in a day, a week or a month, and Kang Mei Xue didn't want this.
She wanted to be with them every day.
Looking at the two kids, Lu AnLing analyzed the situation and she could now get the gist of the situation and so she smiled and Kang Mei Xue and she put her hand on the top of the girl's head and patted her.
"You're a really good big sister..." Lu AnLing said softly. "For now, daddy has to go to work but I'll spend some time with you guys. But I want you to understand that we won't abandon you. We love you both and we want to be with you two. Soon, no one will ever be able to take either of you away from us or us away from you."
Hearing this, Kang Mingyu And Kang Mei Xue nodded slowly. The two were happy, but a bit conflicted also. It was not only Lu AnLing who they missed but Kang Jun too... though, after knowing Kang Jun for a long time, the two already knew that if Kang Jun had work, nothing could be done.
As they thought this, the kid's faces darkened slightly. And when he saw this, Kang Jun's heart cracked.
Not wanting to feel this or hurt the kids, Kang Jun contacted Mr Long and told the man to handle all his affairs.
***
Many days had passed since the Lu family meeting and Lu AnLing had spent the grand majority of her free time with the kids.
She and Kang Jun had both decided to show the kids as much love as they could but sadly for them, they still had to work.
As soon as Monday hit, Kang Jun was back to his usual work schedule and Lu AnLing, due to the Trailblazers competition, was forced to work on a new song with Mo Sheng.
Some days the two went to the Halo Stars Entertainment building to work on it but on other days, Mo Sheng had come to the Kang Mansion a couple of times or, Lu AnLing went over to Mo Sheng's parents home.
The Mo family home was quite new and beautiful. It also contained a built-in recording studio, with many instruments lying around, so this made Lu AnLing and Mo Sheng's tasks much easier.
Sitting down in a corner strumming the guitar, Mo Sheng frowned. "Why does the F cord have to be so hard to get the hang of?"
Lu AnLing sighed. "If you practice regularly, it shouldn't be too hard. Do you need big sis... or should I say, auntie... over here to show you?"
Mo Sheng: "No, keep writing the song. Either way, you haven't played the guitar in years. You're probably extremely rusty!"
Hearing this, Lu AnLing laughed.
"I doubt it. My dad pretty much beat perfection and muscle memory into me. Not literally, of course, but he was such a freak when it came to music. He screamed at me all the time... If one thing was off key, or if it sounded a bit wrong, he would freak on me." Lu AnLing said with a frown.
"Wow, if my dad did that to me, I'd hate him... and music, for that matter." Mo Sheng said as he continued to strum the guitar.
It was strange but when she thought about her father, even the moments when she had truly thought in her heart that she hated him, Lu AnLing now realized that she still loved him.
The man had been annoying but no matter what, he was her father...
"Speaking of Dad's. Has your dad told you who the judges are yet?" Lu AnLing asked curiously.
Hearing her question, Mo Sheng didn't answer. Instead, he pulled out his phone and searched for his father's text message. As soon as he found it, he walked over to Lu AnLing and handed her his phone.
Looking over the panel of judges, Lu AnLing thought that the selection was relatively normal; they were exceptional artists and songwriters in the industry, but then, Lu AnLing saw a name that caught her eye.
"Tang Yian?" Lu AnLing said slowly.
Mo Sheng nodded and then he looked at Lu AnLing who stared blankly at the phone. "You know him?"
Lu AnLing gave a dry laugh. "He's my father."
I'm pretty sure most of you expected this to happen lol. But it'll be interesting. I promise!
