"Why did you take the risk of getting caught just to get control of the dungeon?" asked one of the Flame Scarabs.
Ishan looked at the speaker while playing with the dungeon interface. "I think we can get a lot from this. We can have now look at what is happening in the dungeon and warn the others if the barbarians ever decide to attack. Also, I am not sure but I heard that half of the DP of the dungeon is lost in the conquest. I don't know how to do it but it should be able to make DP transfers between dungeon masters. This way, the dungeon will benefit more."
"I see," said the Flame Scarab with an enlightened expression.
"Look! I think our comrades are returning. They are the red dots, right? There are also a lot of blue dots with them," exclaimed another Flame Scarab.
Ishan looked at the direction the Flame Scarab was pointing at. "Let's go then. Harriet should know how to use the dungeon interface better than me."
The Flame Scarabs rushed to the secret tunnel they took to invade the dungeon. They waited and soon, the monsters appeared, led by Harriet.
The Harpy Queen immediately noticed the silhouettes of the Flame Scarabs and rushed toward them. When she saw Ishan, she had the urge to beat him. She mercilessly hit the Flame Scarab Warrior's head. "What are you doing here? Didn't we already agree that you would leave the dungeon as soon as possible? For a moment, I thought that something happened to you!"
Ishan felt wronged. He tried to do something for the dungeon and was being punished. "Don't! Stop hitting me. Look, I have the dungeon core." He pitifully screamed and took out the dungeon core and the pseudo-dungeon core.
"Where did you get this?" asked Harriet with an inquisitive glare. She took the two orbs.
"I went to speak to the dungeon master and tricked him into purchasing the pseudo-dungeon core. This way, we can control the dungeon and cause even more damage to the barbarians."
Harriet gave back the dungeon core but kept the pseudo-dungeon core. "Hmmp. For once, your tricky and deceitful nature is being of good use. Don't think that I did not notice your sly moves!"
Ishan grinned but remained silent. He was an insect; there were only two ways for an insect to survive; force or trickery. After all, a female insect would often lay dozens of eggs at once. They would all hatch together and would need to fight for food. Many would perish during their growth; this was the cruel process every insect had to go through.
"I have to admit that you did a good job." Harriet opened the interface and started using the different functions. At the same time, she signaled Alice to stay at a reasonable distance. She did not want the Flame Belle and Flame Sisters nearby just in case they would try to fight for the dungeon core.
"I also checked the dungeon master's player interface. He did not send any messages to the members of the Storm Alliance about our plan. He is quite stupid. He is also revealed that the barbarians asked for many Gazelles from him. Maybe we can do something about these beasts."
The Harpy Queen clicked her tongue. "Good idea."
The dungeon map did not show any signs of abnormal activity among the barbarians. Harriet opened the dungeon shop and searched for the Gazelles. She then searched for the corresponding Boss Monster.
The Swift Gazelle Tribe did not bother to summon the boss monster; they had their own totem spirit, the Winged Gazelle to lead the pack.
"Found it." Harriet pressed onto an icon and instantly, a summoning circle appeared.
A level 37 Mongalla Gazelle appeared and looked at its new environment. It was confused to see so many hostile monsters surrounding it.
Harriet tightened her grip on the pseudo-dungeon core and spoke, "Listen. We don't have time right now. We are not monsters of this dungeon. We are here to conquer it. You have two choices now. To obey us and join our dungeon, or to die!"
The Mongalla Gazelle bellowed. It crouched in an aggressive stance but Harriet did not move. She was in a position of power. Even if the Mongalla Gazelle went berserk in its battle form, Harriet could still slay it effortlessly.
At that moment, seeing the complicated situation, the Flame Belle decided to intervene. "Mongalla Gazelle. You should listen to her. The life here is not any good. This dungeon is already done for. It could not fight against the invaders. Our only chance is to join them."
Harriet glanced at the Flame Belle and nodded approvingly. "If you want to join us, then order all the Gazelles on the other floors to start attacking the barbarians. Prove that you will help us. Once we arrive at our dungeon, my master will summon more Gazelles for you and you will have a place to call home."
The Mongalla Gazelle hesitated. Even though it was just summoned, it did not want to turn against its dungeon. However, in the end, it loudly bellowed! Its cry was so loud that Harriet's ears started to hurt.
The results were immediate. With the pseudo-dungeon core, the monsters saw the Gazelle rebel and attack the unsuspecting barbarians.
Harriet let out a faint smile. "Start leaving now. I have one more thing to do!" The monsters complied and Alice led the group through the long tunnel.
The secret tunnel was not considered as part of the dungeon. It was dug by the monsters but was not officially located in the dungeon's territory. It was thanks to this that Stargaze managed to hide it from the barbarians.
Using the dungeon interface, she requested to make a trade with Five. She selected all the DP and pressed 'send'. Now, all that was needed was to wait for Five to accept and then, she would leave.
...
At the same time, Five was nervously biting his nails; his eyes would not leave his dungeon interface constantly monitoring the number of monsters he had. He could not watch the attack taking place but he could determine the outcome by looking at his monster population.
Dreidus was at his side accompanied by Lyra. The couple remained silent as they could feel Five's nervousness. It was a risky operation even though they had already checked several times that it was not a trap.
Suddenly, Five received a system prompt:
[System prompt: The dungeon: 'Fire Pit' has requested a trade: 3392840 DP in exchange for nothing. Would you like to proceed?]
[System prompt: As it is the player's first time making a trade, we would like to remind you that 10% of the trade value would be deducted as taxes.]
Five froze. He could not believe what he was seeing. Someone was giving him free DP? After looking more closely at the system prompt, in particular at the name of the dungeon and taking into consideration the timing, Five had a rough idea of what was happening.
"Yes!"
[System prompt: Trade successful. 3392840 DP has been transferred to your inventory.]
[System prompt: 339284 DP has been deducted as taxes for the transfer.]
"Master, why are you smiling?" asked Dreidus. The lich would not miss Five's change in expression.
"I think Harriet and the others surpassed my expectations. I just received a trade from a dungeon. We got three million DP."
"That's good news!" said Dreidus. His eyes lit up momentarily.
Five was already used to the lich's lack of enthusiasm. He continued to look at the dungeon interface and soon, the long-awaited system prompt sounded:
[System prompt: One of your monsters have conquered 'Fire Pit'. Half of the DP owned by the defeated dungeon master has been transferred to you. Please bring the defeated dungeon core to the Core of Madness for further rewards.]
[System prompt: 718 DP has been added to your balance]
[System prompt: Your monsters have attacked and destroyed the entity: Fire Pit. You are awarded 6836 Destruction Points.]
[System prompt: Your monsters have attacked and damaged the entity: Swift Gazelle Tribe. Although the entity has not been annihilated, the damages dealt are still significant. You are awarded 14720 Destruction Points.]
"They have succeeded. We just need to wait for them to return."
...
At the same time, Dorcas was crossing his arms. "You want to stay at our village? It is possible but how much are you willing to pay?"
Underwater frowned. It was the first time he was hearing a barbarian tribe asking for money just to sleep; where was their hospitality? But for the sake of the quest, he politely answered:
"We have the items we are willing to trade. You can choose whatever you want."
Dorcas played with his long beard. He was going to answer when suddenly, he heard a commotion at the back of the village. His senses were keen. He could hear it before anyone else. He paused and waited for the barbarians to come and report the situation to him.
"Chief! I don't know what is happening. The Gazelles are suddenly rebelling. We do not dare to kill them but they are extremely aggressive. Quite a few brothers were stomped to death and a few others were severely injured."
"What?" Dorcas frowned. "What is Klein and the others doing on that side? Isn't he in charge of the situation. I told him not to push that guy too far or he might crack! Tell the Shamans to summon the totem spirit. Our Winged Gazelle will be enough to suppress the ordinary Gazelles."
Underwater's mind ran wild when he heard 'totem spirit'. It was one of the conditions of his quest. If he managed to prevent the Swift Gazelle Tribe from using their totem spirit, they would earn additional rewards!
He was about to speak when suddenly, a system prompt sounded at the players' ears:
[System prompt: Due to special circumstances, the quest "Request of the Dwarves" has come to an end. You have failed the quest.]
[System prompt: The Dwarves feel pity toward you. The situation got out of hand and could not have been changed by you. Compensation reward: The mechs will become available at the dwarven village, Tinyland but at twice the originally set price.]
"What?" internally exclaimed Underwater. Was this somehow link to the incident of the gazelles?
Dorcas continued. "You are quite lucky. I don't have time to play with you. Just leave. Brothers, make sure they don't enter our village. I will personally go and see what Klein is doing. That idiot thinks he can just have fun because I appointed him as the one in command?"
Underwater and the players remained dumbfounded. They watched Dorcas' disappearing figure, unsure of what to do next.
I am thinking of two things...
Will it be better to change "Fire Pit" to "Pit of Fire"?
It is also time to change the cover and get a better one. Might be time to hire an artist again...
