Chapitre 18: The Hunter and the Hunted
Tom woke up out of breath, he breathe heavily to calm himself down, his back was soaked in cold sweats
After calming down a bit, he looked at his side and saw Arthur snoring, Tom smiled seeing him sleep so peacefully.
He decided to take a walk outside of the cave to take a breather but again, he nose was greeted with the heavy scent of monster blood.
"What!? "
"We are already far away from its territory unless-" Tom realized something and immediately went inside to wake up Arthur.
"Arthur! Arthur! " Tom shook Arthur's body
"What happened!? are the monsters here!" Arthur woke up in a start
"Come outside" saying those words Tom left.
Arthur followed Tom outside and scrunched up his nose after smelling the all too familiar scent.
Seeing the monster corpses circling them, Arthur said
"But we already left it's territory! why is it still trailing us? "
Tom expression turned serious, "We were wrong... it isn't a dark scythe. "
Arthur asked in suprise "What? "
Tom replied in a grave tone "It is a predatory behaviour, it is marking us at its prey and letting us now that it is challenging us"
Arthur replied, "Are you 100 percent sure? "
Tom nodded, "We only encounter this events after we leave the holy lake, this means that the monster was observing us all this time. "
"You see this circle" Tom pointed "It's radius is shrinking each day, it is warning us that it will come for us when the circle can no longer accomodate us"
"What a cocky little bitch! " Arthur cursed which caught Tom off gaurd
"Let's get going then! " Arthur immediately started running and Tom soon followed.
They travelled for 2 days and decided to rest as they were too tired
....
Arthur's dream:
Arthur was laying in a comfortable bed, he opened his eyes and he was greeted with a familiar ceiling.
"This dream again? looks like I miss my old room way too much" Arthur stood up and started walking towards the bathroom mirror
"Let's see what you will show me this time" he said before looking at the mirror and surprisingly he was normal, his eyes weren't hollow or anything strange at all.
"Looks like it was just a one time jump scare" Arthur laughed and decided and come down stairs, just like he expected, no one was inside.
"Guess I will walk around for a bit" he opened the front door and walked outside on the street
The sun was high in the sky, probably 12 AM judging from the sun's position. Arthur walked for a while but the atmosphere was too eerie, the entire street was empty, no living soul in sight, not even birds.
The sun was radiating immense heat, causing Arthur to hallucinate as he saw a 7 foot man wearing a long black coat walking past him..
"Wait.. a man!? " Arthur immediately gave chased and shouted "Wait!"
he tried his best to caught up but the distance was never shrinking, as Arthur was about to give up, the man slowed down and stopped near an alleyway.
"Huuu.. huu" Arthur was out breath which he rarely experienced after learning chakra control.
"Who are you? " he asked but no reply came
"I asked who are you!? " feeling a bit irritated, Arthur asked again but no reply came
"Answer me you buffoon! " Arthur said after losing his calm which was really weird as he was always clam and composed after the system initiates the mental barrier
The 7 foot man finally turned around and what greeted Arthur sent chills down his spine.
The man had no eyeballs just unnerving darkness, it had black ropes for mouth and it spoke with its eerie voice.
"I am your end!" it suddenly grabbed Arthur and opened its abysmal mouth, numerous black ropes came out of it which were slowly coiling around Arthur like a python, dragging him inside it's abyssal mouth
"Sharingan! " Arthur immediately activated his sharingan, the 2 tomoes spinning rapidly.
The figure stopped moving and the world started cracking like a mirror
...
Arthur woke up while panting, his sharingan still spinning rapidly.
"What happened!? " Tom also woke up hearing the commotion
Arthur calm himself down and replied "I know what monster is targeting us"
"What? " Tom asked
"Nightwalkers! " Arthur replied while remembering his first encounter.
"It never stopped following me.. " Arthur remembered how the monsterdex described it as haunting their prey until they kill them and how they were a 'picky' eater.
"That's bad news! " Tom said when suddenly his expression turned grave then terrified, he just sit there motionlessly and slowly pointed his finger downwards. Arthur looked at the ground and was horrified for the first time.
The inside of their cave was full of monster corpses and they were sitting inside a small circle!
*Shhhhh* somebody whispered behind Arthur.
A bony finger touched Arthur's back from behind, he slowly turned around and found himself face to face with the nightwalker!
It's hollow eye gazing deep into his sharingan.
it pointed its bony finger downwards towards the circle and whispered with its eerie voice,
"This circle will be gone tomorrow"
Smiling with black ropes dangling from its mouth, the nightwalker slowly blended into the darkness, even fooling the sharingan!
'Picky eater huh, it looks like it was waiting for me to break into foundation establishment realm. ' Arthur looked sternly while his sharingan rotated rapidly.
'You will regret this nightwalker as I am no longer a cub waiting to be hunted " Arthur stared deep into the darkness inside the cave and the darkness stared back at him
"When you stare deep into the abyss, the abyss stares back at you"
"Kekeke! " laughter resounded throughout the cave before eventually quieting down.
