"What? Then how come you're okay traveling all the way to Angelbay City by yourself?" Ardyn asked incredulously. "Weren't you ambushed even once? I mean, it must've been scary."

"Well, I tend to travel alone a lot," Luke explained. "Zach doesn't like it when I do, but it's been fine so far. I avoid the woods as much as possible and stay where there are people nearby. To be fair, it's relatively safer and easier for me to travel when the Calamity is sealed. But once it's back, that's usually when things get dangerous. Like now."

Ardyn immediately felt a pang of guilt, but decided to say nothing.

"As long as we stay in the carriage, we'll be fine," Leon interjected with what he probably hoped was a reassuring smile. "It's invisible to the senses, so the beastspawns won't be able to notice us. As long as the carriage doesn't accidentally bump into them, that is," he added uncertainly.
