Trying to understand your comment, it's possible to achieve that kind of strenght without Nen... but it isn't easy. Before Learning Nen, Hanzo was stronger than Killua (Killua affirmation), and several characters display superhuman feats without Nen. The MC isn't as strong as Killua not only for the innate talent, but because his training is self-taught and less demanding. If you are a fan you should know what kind of family the Zoldycks are.

In the island they only teached him the Ten, and a few of them can use Ren, but they don't have a good training system, so they can't train the principles. Even if he knows the details of the canon, it is not so easy to apply them in real life without a good teacher (even the Chimera Ants needed some human guidance). Also, he trains EVERY DAY, but its physical training, because Nen improves power, but a proper foundation is needed like Killua, and keeping future information about the world of HXH fresh is even more important than gaining power quickly.
