These ideas have given me something to thing over. as for why Eevee chose to evolve and devolve and use moves, it because when Eevee evolves into Flareon, it naturally gets the move Ember, same with Vaporeon and Jolteon, Vee doesn't know much moves, it relies too much on its ability to survive but with Austin that will change
Now, my question to all of you is: Would you prefer that I follow what Red did in the manga, where Austin helps Vee evolve into an Espeon, Umbreon, or Sylveon, causing it to lose its unique abilities? Or would you like me to take a more unique route where Austin helps Vee maintain the ability to evolve and devolve into all Eeveelutions, from Flareon to Sylveon?

It has, like the title is special but the continued line is divided into special attack and defence. Kinda a subtle reference to the special stat in Kanto but yeah, its split but doesn't matter because Pokemon don't have stat numbers rather affinities like Pikachu has affinity to be a special attacker not a physical defender.

Originally I was going to have Austin try to do Ash's route but I scrapped it because frankly, I want Austin to do his own thing, catch his own Pokemon and develop his own style and essentially make this his Odyssey/ his unexpected journey

Pikachu are a pokemon which store electricity in their cheeks, but this electricity must be released on a semi-regular basis lest the pokemon use powerful electric attacks at random, shocking everything in sight. Many inexperienced owners are equally reluctant to use them, fearing it will mark them as pokemon trainers and force them to accept challenges and see their precious Pikachu injured.

The duo froze, their bodies tense and ready, as Jolteon underwent another transformation. The light of evolution engulfed it once again, and when it subsided, standing before them was a Flareon. The new form boasted short, reddish-orange fur, long ears with black interiors, and dark, intense eyes. Fluffy yellow fur adorned its head, bushy tail, and a mane around its chest and neck.
