pluses are very good pacing, and a nice bit of intrigue. one criticism is probably that she seems like she's a bit too intent on Mikey, in some way, for someone cold to "outsiders." but I am liking it.
What do you all think? A fitting end? Not satisfactory?

it's subjective, but it's pretty valid to say they are chaotic neutral. for the chaotic part, this guy clearly claims to love the no rules part... for neutral, they see the risk of doing anything else as too high. they claim to only do this because they believe it ensures their survival. and arguably, the survival of five is better than one, a dangerous regressor is "a loose end" that could destroy the world, etc. and the alignment doesn't mean they have perfect logic and decision making to realize that alignment. my dog, Ultraman and Buddha could all have the neutral good alignment at times
