"Wait a moment," I ordered after a short deliberation since I recognized the truth behind Patrick's words and started writing a letter with gritted teeth. Several moments later, I handed it over and instructed, "If they truly cannot live without help, I allow you to bring this letter to Lord Sirius Black at 12 Grimmauld Palace in London. Bring it personally. Tell him I invoke my debt of life. He will know the rest from this letter."

'I'm reserving my judgment for now, but... Plan 'Gossip Queen' might have been a mistake. How could I possibly ever break up with her and still be in her good graces if she is like this one second into our relationship. Personally, I wouldn't even call it that, but I don't think Lavender wouldn't...'

no you're right, that's roughly how it goes. But I personally think there aren't that many unregistered animagi because the punishment is years in Azkaban. I wouldn't risk that. And that's why I personally came to the conclusion that you either need great talent and knowledge in transfiguration - or dumb luck
She walked around a little and looked into most of our eyes as she continued with a grave examination, "The animagus transformation is one of the most complicated forms of transfiguration known to wizardkind. It is considered the very pinnacle of the human transfiguration branch and requires a high level of not only magical knowledge but also personal introspection and, of course, luck."

though, I suppose 'peak' was maybe the wrong word here... but it's from the perspective of a teenager in his first year of magical education. He won't know the actual limits unless he comes close or actually sees them

uncensored books from ancient family libraries (Potter + (less likely) Black), actual talent, luck, maybe a guardian's help or straight up Dumbledore's help? I get what you're trying to say. But you can't tell me it's easy when there are only like 7 known Animagus in Britain. Turning into a bird or a fox or something would be the first thing every second muggleborn who watched TV growing up would try to do. I know I would

in every country I have been to school in, England included, there aren't letter grades ranging from A to F. Instead the grades are numbers going from 1 to 6, with 1 being the best
"You plan to get excellent grades?" the bushy haired witch inquired with a curious tilt of her head. So far, even in the school her parents later sent her to where others should have strived for academic excellence, Hermione felt alone among her peers. She was isolated because of her poor social skills and standing out with 1-plus-grades instead of the regular 1's everyone else received somehow increased the distance between her and her classmates even further.

In case you're truly curious and don't want to wait the 18 chapters until he learns about his ability, it's still in a similar color code, but entirely dependent on the MC's intent. Spoilers ahead! If something proves useful to him, akin to a 'quest item', it will be gold. If a person he sees is important to his long-term goals, they will be golden. If they dislike the MC, they'll be orange. If they want to actively hurt the MC, they are red. If they are allies, they are green. If they are magical but have no opinion or relevance to the MC, they are white. If it's a magical item (not cursed item), it will be white - that includes magical beasts and plants. At the end of Volume 1, he develops it to work with wards, runes, and enchantments.
'Every book' might sound like a lot, but the texts in magic books had so little substance that Talion at some point started barely glancing at the pages to judge whether they held any information or if they were just tales of how the author used the spell to get one over on a rival or some such drivel.

I do have a link in the AN if you want to tip. But putting out regular early chapters is not something I want to do. I work 40+ hours a week and I'd feel terrible if I was constantly late with updates to stay like 10+ chapters ahead or something

The stylized capital A with the rounded bottom I had found on that Ancient Greece style short sword in the Macnair vault. I still didn't find it among the one runes book I leafed through, and I didn't have the time to ask anyone if it meant something to anyone other than my mother.

true, thanks!
"My father and all the other Death Eaters have killed, raped, tortured, looted, and otherwise terrorized not only the magical population but the muggle population, too. These hypocritical bastards talk about blood supremacy, but they wiped out more magical blood than any other cause in recent magical history. During Voldemort's reign of terror, more noble houses ended than were added to the Wizengamot since the statute of secrecy was implemented. They threatened all of our lives by carelessly going after muggles when there was no need to even involve them in the war... I read somewhere that killing a murderer doesn't lower the number of murderers in the world... but that has to be one of the dumbest sayings I learned with the muggles. Just kill two murderers and suddenly, there's one less. Or, in the case of my father, the two murders are simply not the same. Rabastan's death would serve justice. His killings were done and justified by a twisted sense of purpose that I find apprehensible. Disgusting, really," I explained, not noticing the peculiar looks not only given by Rita but even more so by Flitwick.

not to build any story arcs, but yeah, I'll sprinkle in some tidbits
Since I could still answer questions during her lessons just fine, I was relegated to giving my classmates fun facts and other trivia together with Sprout while the other students were harvesting pollen from a magical plant with no attack power - a rather tame class that I felt I could have done with just one hand and a partner. But obviously, the pitying look from Sprout told me differently.

The fated wand of Harry Potter that was the brother-wand of the one that gave the two boys their scars should have already been taken anyway two days ago, so the plot armor of getting a Priori Incantatem to happen during a duel with Voldemort was out of the question.

you're right, of course... but I'll just pretend that the Templars, who are more alligned with the catholics, are the reason it is different in my AU
"Bullying someone because they are different, if taken to the extreme, is what made muggles as a whole see nothing wrong with witch hunts. Sure, the reasons behind the movement of the Catholic Church were much deeper and more complicated, but the common populace didn't fight back once it started because they feared what we were capable of since we are different. It boggles my mind that magicals still find the energy and reason to mock someone for being different."
