anthony and the gang Vs whatever the heart of the 5th stratum is. the fight draws near each chapter. whatever it is the gang is very out leveled, i mean this thing changed the stratum.
so we have : 1) a misteryus presence that is obserbing them 2) we got a ventilazione system in the dungeon .... 3) we have an heart beat caming from it. 4) we know that the 5th stratum wasn't allaways like this. 5)there is a form of influence towards it's inabitants. my hypothesis is that we have a powerfull creature similar that was at least on the path to becoming an Acient. this is similar to the demon god , he corrupted the 5th and so he can influence yhe things that fall tobit's domain. Now we could have either have a injured creature. A special evolution like the hive mind or the larva that left him in a difficoltà state last option that i can think, like someone mentioned in the comments it's a frammenti or organ of a monster.

ok lets read the reception for this book. 1)system for everyone, but different races have different options or when they get those options 2)deep lore with multiple kindoms here and there while we follow the adventure. 3)great enemys and fights 4)old tropes in diffents lights. so are you joinning our Hollywood crussade?

the chance to stop the ant invasion was there the krath could have won. stopper the great crussade,manteining the corruption of the 5th. yet it's in they nature to betray and scheme against each other, another example of how different they were from the colony and why they dissapeared from the tunnels of the dungeon.
yeahh this guy has a lot more on the than few cardrs in his poket , i also doubt he's weak, he might not be the best ,but he has to have a few tricks to defend him self
