I finally finished my pushups and then prepared for a jog around the block. I'm still undecided on the needle, but Koriel urges me again.

I always looked at it like putting a spoiler on a race car. Race cars have spoilers to generate "downforce", which pushes the car down onto the road at high speeds, improving traction and stability, allowing for faster cornering and better overall control by counteracting the lifting force created by air resistance at high speeds.
That said, I have no idea why the hell we throw our arms behind us while running. Is it really necessary? It doesn't feel like it gives any kind of significant boost—other than just looking ridiculous, at least to me.
