It was going to be a much more thorough event but the queen pushed an impossible task knowing they'll fail. William and Wolf are the only candidates that can even hope to burden any responsibility at all, with that in mind she decided to 'cut to the chase' as the chapter title might suggest. Again keep in mind Runner is probably the worst candidate, Kukei only wants to kill William, the priestess only hopes to test the participants, Sola is a proxy, leaving Waallian who couldn't be allowed to have the seat anyways. Which really ends up with two options William and Wolf, only one of whom is even remotely fit to sit on the king's seat.
all fixed! Thanks a bunch!

I have plans and once things sit just right, you'll know exactly what's going on. But given the circumstance and what's presented thus far, I totally understand where you're coming from.
"FOR AESTORIA! FOR OUR CHILDREN AND THEIR FUTURE!" Adopting his chants, the coliseum quaked to the common folk's power. And while William's smirk degraded to the chants, the queen's pearly lips stretched into a smile. 'Why was it so big?' She wondered, comparing what she'd seen on Amedith to that of Raven. In her mind so far, the size on Amedith was all she'd known, but with her expectations now shattered, she had grown curious. She wanted to feel it in her hand, figure out if it was even real, and if it was, how in the hell does that thing even work? 'She's your son's friend, essentially your son too. You can't think like this.'

Impossible conditions are often what a king will be met with while striking deals with other nations. More often than not fair deals were never a thing in the past and the greater party would always get away with an upper hand. Besides there's more to the queen's reasoning you'll see.
"So you've convinced the public that you're at least worthy of some trust as kings or queens," giving a brief glance at the populi, Astoria closed her eyes and turned back to the participants. "Being a ruler isn't just a battle of might. Thus, now you must prove through absolute compliance from each other that one of you isn't fit to be a ruler!"
