Fair enough, if so many popular characters can just handwave away all the illogical things they can do, why shouldn't yours be able to. I mean superman gets to stop planes with his hands without somehow having them go right through the plane, even though the amount of force needed to stop the plane forcefully applied on that small an area should totally destroy it. Everybody with super speed or strength also somehow has bodies tough enough to withstand said use of strength or speed. (While also somehow still being able to be hurt just as easily as us normal frail humans?) etc.etc.

Okay fine I'll bite. wasn't that in john byrne's version? How many literal years did it take for one writer to give a seemingly plausible excuse for how that could work? For years it was just "Because he can." or "Because he is superman" or even better "It's just a comic". Seems like handwaving to me.
