It works both ways. Some like yourself will be annoyed by it, for me personally having too much ruins a book, I'd rather the actual story. It's impossible to keep everyone happy.
Annoyingly, I can't edit comments, so I'll have to add another. R18 tags aren't always for smut, it covers anything that can generally be considered R18, such as graphic violence containing a lot of blood and gore, detailed torture etc
There is a lot of that in the novel, but there are maybe 4 or 5 chapters that are smut, not a lot, but there is some. It would be useful if the author added the R18 to the chapter title like most novels, I can't remember which chapters exactly to point them out, but when smut chapters are done, they are much longer than normal chapters.
It's small by some novels standards. 4 so far, though 1 has yet to go all the way and 2 more that are almost certain to join. A good amount considering how many chapters there are, in my opinion. But I'm sure more will be added as the story progresses.

I couldn't agree more, I enjoyed seeing an MC actually having a friend, but this has killed the story for me. It was well written, don't get me wrong, but I just didn't like it. It's a shame because it had become my favourite novel until that point.
