Chapter 19: Teasing
"Now that you know, get lost!" Zaimokuza said, looking down at the prostrate Touma with not a hint of mercy in his voice.
Dragging his aging body, Touma performed a deep bow, his voice filled with weariness as he said, "I am deeply sorry, honorable King. I shouldn't have described Lady Erica in such a manner. Please forgive me."
Zaimokuza completely ignored him and was about to walk away.
Seeing this, Touma shakily pulled out an invitation from his bosom and said urgently, "Actually, the main task this time is to invite you, my King, to a gathering of Japan's noble families next Sunday, where you can choose a bride you fancy."
Zaimokuza was momentarily stunned as he looked at the invitation in Touma's hand, but then showed some interest.
After all, if he could subdue those influential figures from Japan's noble families, it would make his intelligence gathering and daily affairs much easier.
With this in mind, Zaimokuza took the invitation and put it in his pocket. He looked at Touma's aged appearance, shook his head, and activated his power of harvest to restore him to a younger state.
Touma was thrilled to see himself restored and kowtowed several times to Zaimokuza in gratitude.
"Remember, this is not without punishment. I have taken ten years off your lifespan."
Touma was shocked to hear this but considered it much better than being an old man.
"Then, I hope this is the last time I see you, because I detest those pretentious political antics. You'd better inform those so-called noble families to restrain themselves. Otherwise, I might replicate your experience on them. Understood? And if anyone is caught spying on me again, I'll pay a visit to your headquarters for a little chat."
Touma nodded frantically in response. "Yes, honorable King. Thank you for your mercy. I will deliver the message right away."
With that, Touma and the other one vanished like a shadow. Zaimokuza scanned the area and found there were only three others besides him, and all the spies had quickly left.
Three people? Zaimokuza's expression turned peculiar. If he hadn't used his mental powers to scan the surroundings, he might have missed the third person, who was Kato Megumi.
Zaimokuza began walking out of the forest, and Yumiko and Ebina breathed a sigh of relief. Just as they turned to leave, they saw Zaimokuza, who had apparently already departed.
The two screamed and clung to each other in fright.
"Aah!" Zaimokuza grinned mischievously at them.
"Weren't you already gone? How are you still here?" Yumiko asked, trembling.
"Ah, I've known from the start that someone was following me. So how should I deal with you two?" Zaimokuza tilted his head, pretending to ponder.
"What do you want to do? We're classmates, remember?" Yumiko said with a hint of a sob in her voice, clearly frightened by Zaimokuza's words.
"That won't do. Even if they're classmates, those who discover the secret must be dealt with, as per the rules."
"Wait... can't you use a softer method? Like memory elimination or something?" Ebina trembled as she suggested.
Seeing the two girls in such a frightened state seemed to awaken some strange attribute within Zaimokuza, who decided to keep teasing them.
"That's true, using a method like that would work."
The girls breathed a sigh of relief, at least their lives would be spared.
"But, you see, I don't know how to do that."
Instantly, their relief turned into intense anxiety again.
Zaimokuza looked at the two girls with a hint of pity in his eyes, raised his hand, and mimicked a gun with his fingers, aiming at them.
"Sorry, Miura-san and Ebina-san, but you'll have to perish here."
The two of them felt an unprecedented sense of despair and collapsed onto the ground, trembling.
As Zaimokuza mouthed a "bang," the two girls screamed out loud.
After a moment, when they didn't feel any pain, they exchanged glances and looked back at Zaimokuza.
What they saw made them twitch in exasperation: Zaimokuza was clutching his stomach, laughing uncontrollably.
"Hahaha! This is... this is just too funny. It's been so long since I had such fun."
Hearing this, the two girls grew infuriated and glared at Zaimokuza.
Seeing their anger, Zaimokuza wiped away the tears of laughter and adopted a serious tone.
"Well, there's nothing wrong with it; it's more like a lesson for you two. Don't explore things just out of curiosity. Remember, curiosity killed the cat."
The two nodded unconsciously, acknowledging his point when he suddenly turned serious.
"Now, why don't you go change your panties? You both wet yourselves, didn't you?" His tone quickly shifted back to being teasing.
The girls looked at each other and glanced under their skirts, blushing furiously.
"You jerk! I won't forget this, Zaimokuza Yoshiteru. You'd better remember that!" Yumiko yelled, embarrassed and angry as she hurriedly helped Ebina to get up, and they ran off.
Watching them leave, Zaimokuza turned to the tree and spoke, "Aren't you going to come out, Kato-san?"
Kato Megumi slowly stepped out from behind the tree, saying, "Zaimokuza-kun, you really are a meanie, aren't you?"
Zaimokuza was momentarily taken aback and then realized she must be referring to his teasing of Yumiko and Ebina.
"Well, it was just a spur-of-the-moment thing."
"You are quite a mysterious person, Zaimokuza-kun."
"Is that so? Aren't you afraid?"
Shaking her head, Kato Megumi replied, "I feel that even though Zaimokuza-kun has changed, you're still as kind as before."
"Oh, what makes you say that?"
"Saving Hinata-chan today showed that."
Zaimokuza smiled slightly at her words, acknowledging that Kato Megumi, the ultimate winner among background characters, indeed lived up to her "Saint Megumi" persona with her calm demeanor.
"Would you be interested in hearing the story of my change?" Zaimokuza asked seriously, looking at Kato Megumi. After all, despite being more confident after becoming a Godslayer, he was still a teenager who hoped to share some of his secrets with a friend.
A look of surprise flashed across Kato Megumi's usually expressionless face as she asked hesitantly, "Can I?"
Instead of answering, Zaimokuza gestured for her to follow and started walking ahead. After a moment's hesitation, Kato Megumi stepped forward and followed him.
The two arrived at the riverside, where Zaimokuza found a large rock to sit on. He patted the spot next to him, inviting Kato Megumi to join him.
Once she was seated, Zaimokuza began recounting his journey to Sardinia, omitting the part about taking the Prometheus Slate from Kusanagi Godou.
After about half an hour, Kato Megumi fully understood the before-and-after of Zaimokuza's transformation.
She looked at the elegant boy in front of her and asked, "Why were you willing to tell me all this, Zaimokuza-kun?"
Zaimokuza glanced at the calmly composed girl and replied in a slightly dazed tone, "Well, I mainly wanted someone to confide in."
Looking at the peer in front of her, Kato Megumi realized that despite acquiring extraordinary powers, he was still just an adolescent at heart.
She couldn't help but laugh softly. Seeing her smile, Zaimokuza also began to chuckle.
"From now on, I'll just call you Yoshiteru-kun, okay? After all, I'm one of the few who know the truth about you."
Zaimokuza nodded and teased, "Then what should I call you? Just 'Megumi'? That doesn't feel quite right. Megumi-chan? That sounds odd too."
Kato Megumi rolled her eyes at Zaimokuza, knowing he was joking with her.
"Ah, I've got it! I'll call you Megumi from now on. Please take care of me!" Zaimokuza declared with a cheerful smile, extending his hand.
Seeing his smile, Kato Megumi couldn't help but blush. She extended her hand and shook his.
Afterward, the two chatted for a while longer before returning to their cabins to rest.
