Capítulo 16: Chapter 16- into a fight

Laurent couldn't help but feel her nose tingle with emotion.

Her father had been firmly opposed to her marrying Dave from the start. Everyone knew that Dave didn't love her, and that he hadn't married her willingly. But back then, Laurent had been so determined, almost obsessively, to marry him. Her mother, feeling sorry for her, had stepped in to persuade her father, saying that it was Laurent's choice and that they, as parents, should respect it.

The joy and pain, the happiness and suffering—it was all her own choice.

After much persuasion from her mother, her father had reluctantly agreed, but he never had any faith in the marriage.

Even after the wedding, Dave hardly ever visited her parents' home. His relationship with her in-laws was very distant. Her mother was more understanding, but her father's opinion of this son-in-law was extremely negative.
