Soft yellow and orange danced around the gray-stone tunnel as Cedric took one stair at a time down into the depths of Da'nu. The air grew cold and damp, frosting his breath as he went farther and farther. The echo of his boots against the carved stone and his heart in his ears chanted around him like drums in the cavernous passageway. His mind raced with hundreds of questions he wanted to ask the Mother Tree, and he became so focused on the wording of each question that when his boot splashed on the next step, it made him jump in surprise.
The darkness fell away as a wave of light flowed through the cave. Small orbs of soft blue danced out from the center of the space, decorating the ceiling and banishing the shadows.
