Minutes after the taxi dropped me off at home, I stood at the door, staring into nothing.

My head was spinning, and I could feel the premonition of a massive headache.

I needed an escape.

The weight of everything that happened at the family dinner today, combined with my stress over avoiding Kieran and trying to use Orion to chase my ex husband away settled heavily on me, and my chest tightened.

I needed an escape.

I found it hard to breathe. I had been finding it extremely difficult to breathe these days.

It was as though my own body was tired of the dealing with me.

If I was the body, I would be tired too.

I sighed. I needed an escape.

Although the time was ticking steadily towards midnight, I knew that once I stepped inside, I would probably drink myself to sleep.
