Capítulo 46: Seeking The Truth

Ra faced the Dragon horde alone, his aura sealing off the surrounding space. Most of the Dragons present were Fallen, but Ra noticed a few living Dragons mixed in within the dense crowd. However, his swords were not tools of discernment, each Dragon that encountered his whirling blades were subsequently met with death. Hot blood poured from the sky like a thick rain, a heavy mist forming an opaque cloud. It rose up from the ground like steam, The scent burned his nostrils. Ra continued to sever limbs and tear wings as the Fallen Dragons continued their relentless onslaught, seemingly determined to fight to the death as no inclination to retreat was shown in their savage visage.

Soon, even the primordial energy Ra had tapped into began to wane, as the power taxed the limits of his soul. He gave one final burst in his fight, with a roar he erupted into a vicious dance, his weapons flashing as they dug into scales, flesh and tendons. He was in a crazed state, and about to collapse, adrenaline alone allowed him to keep fighting.

"Enough!" A savage roar broke through his battle-crazed state. A giant Red Dragon descended from above the clouds.

"That's a Primal Saint!" Gasps of surprise erupted among the crowd inside the Academy.

Ra cocked his head, "What is a Primal Saint doing here?" he asked wearily,

An angry chuckle escaped the scaly lips of the giant Dragon, "You wish to play stupid? very well, I shall play with you!" he said angrily, "Last night you Humans stole something, and not what you usually steal, No, you stole our Egradim!" The Dragons roared when this word was uttered.

"...Egradim?" Ra was stupefied, the others were similarly confused. Can you...describe this 'Egradim'?" he asked, his exhaustion evident in his voice.

"Do not think us fools Humans!" he spat, "Egradim! Our Holy City!" The Dragons roared again. Ra was silent, he couldn't say the Humans hadn't done such a thing, the truth was he truly didn't know.

"We- Here at the Academy we have no idea of the going ons of the outside world," he offered, "If Humans have stolen your city, well, we're at war, did you expect you would not lose your precious city?" Ra was already tired of this back and forth conversation that seemingly had no end.

In fact, they could simply just attack, it wouldn't change anything.

However, Ra had already expended too much of his power, if not for him suffering from this weakened state he wouldn't bother with so many useless words.

"Return to us our city, and the war will end, this I swear to you," The Primal Dragon Saint raised a blood-red claw and drew a dark line across his breast, a steamy gout of blood poured forth.

Ra was notably surprised, not expecting such an action from the Dragons.

"Can the war truly end?" he wondered aloud.

The Dragon didn't respond, with a great beating of a thousand wings, they left the airspace above the Academy and flew away.

Ra descended to the ground feeling extremely complicated in his heart, he had just come to the realization that he didn't even know why they fought, "For what reason do Humans kill Dragons, and why do Dragons kill Humans?" he pondered this with a deeply furrowed brow.

Once on the ground he was surrounded by thousands of cheering people trying to touch him or thank him or both.

He gave each of them a tired smile as he made his way through the crowd. Headmaster Gram had expended a lot of energy to protect them all, if his barrier actually had to defend each of them from thousands of attacks the effort would have likely killed him.

However, Headmaster Gram ignored the risks and selflessly sacrificed himself to save them, luckily Ra was there to take on some of the burden, averting the disaster that would have claimed their Headmasters life.

For a time, things returned to normal, but Ra felt extremely unsatisfied in his heart.

He stopped training and he no longer visited the Arena, instead day in and day out he pored over the history books in Grand Sorcére.

He asked questions but was often met with vague answers. Ra grew increasingly suspicious of the origins of the war.

The pride he'd once felt at his father's part in the war was gone, replaced with an insatiable curiosity, a thirst- for the truth.

Inside Grand Sorcére Ra was walking down a familiar aisle lined with bookshelves, he'd walked it many times before. Something was different this time however, he felt a powerful aura leaking from what was a seemingly ordinary bookshelf, he was drawn to it, captivated, it was pure, raw power. He felt a strange affinity with it. He felt it tugging at the depths of his soul.

Something flashed, and he was drawn inside, disappearing from where he stood.
