85% Welcome to the Danvers Family / Chapter 85: 85. The Kryptonian’s New Clothes

Capítulo 85: 85. The Kryptonian’s New Clothes

October 19, 2017 (pregnancy week 33)

The day after Supergirl woke up from her coma, she was feeling ten times better, so she went ahead and made plans with Sam and Cat to have all of them sit down and talk to the four kids that night.  When that was settled, Lena took Kara to her private lab at L-Corp to get her new suit.  The rest of the family tagged along, wanting to get a look at the suit as well.  Lena didn’t mind.  She figured it should be a family thing anyway.

“Close your eyes,” Lena demanded.  “All of you.”

The rest of the Danvers obeyed, and they could hear the hiss and whirring of whatever hid Kara’s suit from them.

“And open!” Lena permitted.

There were gasps and oohs and ahhs all around.  The suit was quite different than the one she’d worn for the last few years.  To start, it had pants instead of a skirt.  That was the biggest difference.  Also, it had red gauntlets.  The color scheme was the same red, blue and gold, but there were red accents across the shoulders and collar, along her ribs, and over her hips.  There was still a gold belt, a red cape, and red boots, and the same old faithful Crest of El emblazoned on her chest.  The results were in.  Everyone loved it.

“Lena,” Kara said breathlessly.  “This is incredible.  Thank you!.”

“Try it on,” Lena grinned.

“OK,” Kara beamed back at her.  She reverently removed the suit from the display and pulled it on at human speed.

The twins bounced excitedly beside her.  “You look so cool, Mama!”

Kara’s smile rivaled the sun.  “It fits so well!  And it feels like silk!”

Lena grinned proudly.  “I’m so glad you like it.”

“No, I love it,” Kara insisted.  “This is so amazing, Lena.”

“It gets better,” Lena told her.

“What do you mean?” Kara asked excitedly.

“Well,” Lena pointed at the gloves, “These are programmed to absorb sunlight and release it during times when the light is low or absent and it affects your powers.  Kind of a yellow sun booster, if you will.  Or the light can be channeled into an extra shield from each side that you can actually use to protect you or even use as offensive weapons.”

She showed Kara the hand motions that would trigger the hard light shields.  When Kara repeated the motion with the gauntlets on, the shields popped up against the backs of her hands in the shape of the Crest of El.  Kara laughed in delight.

Lena pointed to the belt.  “Winn’s shield is sewn into the fabric here.  And I’ve been experimenting with new synthetic fabrics, and I believe I’ve found one that’s quite Kryptonite-proof.  It’s not 100% effective unless you want to be completely encased in it, but it should help significantly, nonetheless.”

“Wow, Lena, you really out did yourself on this one,” Maggie encouraged.

“Yeah,” Kara breathed.  “I don’t know how to thank you.  This is so amazing.”

“You just have to thank me by wearing it,” Lena winked.  “You’ve done enough for me already.”

“Well, now my idea of taking her out for ice cream sounds totally lame,” Alex pouted.

“What?  No it doesn’t!” Kara was quick to assure her.  “Please, take me out for ice cream!”

“OK,” Alex grinned.  “After lunch, we’ll go to that place you like.”

“Can we come?” the kids asked hopefully.

“That was the plan,” Alex chuckled.  “Otherwise I would have kept it a secret.”

“Woohoo!” the twins cheered.

“I just want to have a nice fun, hopefully relaxing day today,” Alex told them.  “After the last few days, we really need it.”

“Agreed,” Maggie nodded.

Kara opened her arms to them, and they shared a big group hug.  “I love my girls so much.”

The others expressed their love in return.

“Shall we go visit Lucy?” Kara suggested.  “I want to check on her and show her my new suit.”

“Yeah!” the kids whooped.  “We should get her some flowers!  And food!”

“Good thinking,” Kara nodded.  “We can stop at that diner down the street from her that she likes and get her some French toast.  She loves that.”

“Mmm, that sounds yummy!” Jessie smacked her lips.

“You already ate,” Alex chuckled.

Jessie pouted playfully.

“Come on, you goof,” Alex laughed, wrapping her arm around her daughter and pointing her towards the exit.  “You can call and make the order.”  She knew Jessie would order extra for herself and her sister, but Alex couldn’t be bothered to care at the moment.  Her family was safely back together, and it was a day of indulgence and celebration.

Jessie grinned triumphantly and pulled out her phone, making the call as they left L-Corp.  Since they wanted Kara to take it easy, they were riding in the limo today, and the kids helped everyone get in comfortably before settling themselves in.  They told Andy the address of the diner, and he faithfully drove them to their destination.

“You know, since we have all day, we could look at purchasing some new vehicles today,” Lena suggested.

“I know exactly what I want,” Maggie perked up.  “I want an Escalade.”

“Done,” Lena grinned.  “What do you girls want?” she asked Alex and Kara.

“I think I want a Honda Odyssey,” Kara requested.  “It’s supposed to be a really good family vehicle.”

“Alex?” Lena raised her brow at the redhead.

Alex pursed her lips in thought.  “I’m not sure yet.  Let me think about it.  What are you getting?”

“Actually, I’ve ordered a custom made model Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.  It’s an ugly monster, but it will fit everyone plus a few, and they have the most customizable model of anyone else.”

“I wouldn’t mind having one of those,” Alex nodded.  “Is it too late to get two?”

“Of course not, darling,” Lena purred.  “I’ll call them later today.”

Alex smiled appreciatively.  “Thank you, Lena.”

Soon, they arrived at the diner, and the twins went inside to pay and pick up the food they ordered.  The Olsens’ place was only a few blocks away after that.  They stopped to get some flowers and then Andy dropped them off at the front door.  They piled into the elevator and pressed the button for the 12th floor.

When they knocked, Lucy took a minute to hobble to the door, but when she did, she smiled brightly.  “Hi, guys!”

“Hi!,” the Danvers greeted her chipperly.

“We come bearing carbs!” Kara announced, and Jessie waved the bag of food at her.

“And flowers!” Jamie added, holding them up for her to smell.

“Oh!  You didn’t have to do that.  But I’m glad that you did.  Come in,” Lucy backed up on her crutches and let the group inside.

Everyone gave her hugs on the way in, and Alex closed the door behind them.  “So how are you feeling?”

Lucy plopped down onto the couch and indicated for the others to sit.  “I’m doing a lot better now that the pain meds have kicked in this morning.”

The twins settled in on either side of her and the others filled in the seats around them.

“That’s good,” Alex nodded.  “Can we do anything for you while we’re here?”

“Oh, no, we’re all set, but thank you.  And thank you for the food,” Lucy said, opening up her box of goodies.  “I hadn’t gotten a chance to make anything to eat yet.  This is awesome.”

The Danvers all grinned at her.  “It was nothing,” Lena waved her off.  “Are you sure there’s nothing for us to do?”

“You already covered it, so I’m good,” Lucy mumbled around a mouth full of food.  “How are you, Kara?”

The reporter nodded.  “I’m feeling a lot better.  Hardly anything hurts anymore.”

“That’s good,” Lucy replied.  “We were really worried about you.”

“I just wish I’d been around so you hadn’t had to get hurt,” Kara pouted a little.

“Oh, please, I’ve had way worse,” Lucy chuckled.

“You have?” Jamie raised her brow.  “Like what?”

“Never mind that,” Lucy dismissed the question.  “How are my little nieces and nephews?”

“Rambunctious,” Maggie chuckled, rubbing her belly.

“Same,” Lena shrugged.

“Yeah,” Alex shook her head.  “This one kicks me more than the other two combined.”

Lucy laughed.  “Oh, boy.  You’re gonna have your hands full with that one.”

“No kidding,” Alex rolled her eyes.  “I thought Jessie was hyper.”

“Hey!” Jessie balked.

“Don’t act surprised like you didn’t know,” Alex huffed.

Lucy giggled at Jessie’s look of offense.  “You are pretty energetic.  You can’t deny it.”

Jessie’s tactic was to change the subject.  “Aunt Lucy, when are you gonna have a baby?”

Lucy almost choked on her food at the question.  “Oh… Um…  I don’t know.  I’m not ready for all that yet.  James and I just finally got married.”

Jessie didn’t seem any happier about that answer.  “But you do want kids, right?”

“Of course,” Lucy confirmed.  “Just not yet.  Let’s not rush things.”

“OK,” Jessie pouted.

Lucy stifled a laugh and patted Jessie’s knee.  “So do you girls not have school today, or what?”

Jamie shook her head.  “No, Mom told our tutors to take a few days off until Mama got better.  We go back to normal tomorrow.”

“So what are your plans for today?” Lucy asked.

“We’re taking Mama out for ice cream later,” Jessie bounced happily.

“Ooh, fun,” Lucy grinned.  “Is that all?”

“Actually, tonight, we’re all going to sit down with Cat and Sam and talk to all four kids about healthy boundaries,” Alex informed her.  “We’ve tried talking to them individually, but never with all of them together.  We just really want to get on the same page.”

Lucy nodded seriously.  “That’s good.”

“Oh!  And we’re going car shopping too!” Jessie remembered.  “Except, Mama just wants a boring old Honda.  At least Maggie wants a cool car.”

“Oh, cool,” Lucy nodded.  “I can’t wait to see them.”

“Alex and I are special ordering ours,” Lena informed her.  “They’ll take a little longer, but not too long.  Money has its advantages,” she winked.

Lucy huffed a laugh.  “True.  Ever since James took over at Catco, we’ve definitely been sitting pretty.  I mean, this apartment alone is ten-thousand times better than our old one.  I love it.”

“Yes, I absolutely love your new place,” Lena grinned.  “Your old place was good, but it was a little small.  Either way, you have impeccable taste.”

Lucy shrugged.  “It was a joint effort.  James has a good eye too.”

“I should think so,” Lena agreed.  “I’ve never seen him take a bad photograph in my life, and I grew up in Metropolis.”

“Leena looves Jaames!” Lucy sang teasingly.

Lena giggled.  “Secret’s out.”

Kara gasped melodramatically, “Lena!”

This got everyone giggling.

“Oh!  I almost forgot!  Check it out!”  Kara exclaimed, super speeding into her new suit.  She spun in a slow circle for Lucy to see it all.

“Oh, wow!” Lucy gasped.  “That is so awesome!  I love that you ditched the skirt.  That was probably my least favorite thing about your old one.”

“It’s Lena’s design,” Kara informed her proudly.

“Totally badass,” Lucy encouraged.  “Good job, Lena.”

“Thank you,” Lena beamed.

“Watch this!” Kara triggered the light shields from the gauntlets.

“Whoa!  Cool!”  Lucy grinned.  “What is that?”

“Shields,” Lena informed her.  “Or weapons, if she so chooses.”

“Very cool.”

“The gauntlets absorb sunlight,” Lena continued.  “They can channel the light into Kara’s system if need be, or it can create the shields.  The suit is more armored, and it has Winn’s shield sewn into it, and it also has anti-Kryptonite properties, so she should be practically invincible.”

“Let’s hope no one makes anymore red Kryptonite, then, or we’re gonna be screwed,” Lucy chuckled wryly.

“Red Kryptonite?” Maggie and Lena repeated.

“Yeah, during Kara’s first year of being Supergirl, Maxwell Lord tried to cook up some Kryptonite and got it all wrong.  It turned Kara very dark and downright cruel,” Lucy explained.  “That was scary.”

“Yeah,” Alex sighed, trying not to remember the event and the horrible things Kara had said to her.  “It was bad.”

“We haven’t really heard much from him since Myriad, though, thankfully,” Kara mused, wrapping Alex up in her arms.

“That’s good,” Lena huffed.  “I can’t stand that guy.  He’s beyond arrogant.”

“You’ve met?” Kara asked in surprise.

“Of course I have,” Lena replied.  “He’s always at galas and things that I attend around here.  He used to hit on me relentlessly until he found out I was married to you, and then he stopped.  That explains that, I guess,” she chuckled.

“Skeez ball,” Alex muttered.  The thought of him putting the moves on Lena really irked her.  “I regret never getting the chance to punch him.”

Lucy laughed.  “Yeah, same here.”  She yawned.  “Well, no offense, ladies, but I think I need to sleep for a little while, so I’m gonna kick you all out.”

“OK, hon, we’ll get out of your hair,” Alex replied.

The twins cuddled Lucy before getting up.  “We love you, Aunt Lucy!”

“I love you girls too,” she answered.

“We love you too,” Kara chimed.

“Love you all!” Lucy waved as they all headed out.

On their way out of the building, Lena looked at her watch to check the time.  “Shall we go to the Cadillac dealership?”

Maggie grinned.  “Yes, please.”

Lena had Andy take them down to the car dealership, and they ordered an Escalade with every bell and whistle they possibly could get.  Of course, Maggie wanted it black to boot.  When they left the dealership, Maggie was practically bouncing in excitement.

“I’m glad you’re happy, my love,” Lena chuckled.

“It feels like Christmas already!” Maggie grinned.  “We’ve gotten so much stuff this week!”  She gave Lena a few kisses.  “Thank you, sweetheart.”

“You’re most welcome.  Shall we go get Kara’s van now?” Lena offered.  “We still have an hour before lunchtime.”

“Yay!” Kara cheered.

“Are you sure a little Honda is all you want?” Lena checked.

Kara nodded.  “Yeah, it’s pretty highly rated, plus for a van, it’s still kinda pretty.”

“OK, my dear, let’s do it,” Lena encouraged.

The Honda dealership was a little bit of a drive, but since Kara already knew what she wanted, it didn’t matter much.  Again, they ordered all the extra luxuries they could possibly get, which wasn’t as much as the Escalade, but Kara didn’t care about that.  She just wanted a safe vehicle to drive the kids around in.  For color, she picked a gorgeous baby blue paint that her family said matched her eyes.  How could she resist?

“Can we go to Noonan’s for lunch?” Jessie begged.

“I’d like that too, if it’s OK with everyone,” Kara agreed.

The family seemed to be fine with it, so Andy drove them back into town to their favorite restaurant.

“Are you hungry?” Lena asked Andy before they went in.  “You’re welcome to join us, if you like.”

“Are you sure?” Andy asked meekly.  “I don’t want to infringe on your family time.”

“Right now, it’s friends time, so come on,” Maggie encouraged him.

He bit his lip nervously.  “OK, let me park the car, and I’ll meet you inside.”

“OK, see you in a sec,” Lena acknowledged.  The Danvers went inside to get a table.  They hadn’t called ahead this time, so they had to wait a few minutes to get a big enough table for seven of them.  Andy met them inside and stood next to Lena.  He looked a little nervous.

“What’s wrong, dear?” Lena asked, taking his hand in hers.

“I, uh…” he took a deep breath and let it out slowly.  “I guess I’m just a little nervous to be having lunch with you all.  It feels like I’m prying.”

“Nonsense,” Lena soothed him.  “You’re very dear to me, young man, I’ll have you know.  I’m only sorry we haven’t done this sooner.”

Andy smiled appreciatively at her.  “Thanks.  You mean a lot to me too, Mrs. Danvers.  My partner and I are very thankful for you and your generosity.”

“Andy, I told you you could call me Lena,” she chuckled.

“It just doesn’t feel right,” he shrugged.  “You deserve an honorific.”

She snorted indelicately.  “Yeah, right.”

“Oh, here we go again!” Maggie rolled her eyes.

That stopped Lena in her tracks.  She sighed and said, “OK, fine!  Thank you, Andy.  I appreciate that you think so highly of me.”

He squeezed her hand that was still holding his.  “You’re welcome.”

Amy and Tara both came out of the kitchen at the same time, and Jessie spotted them and called out to them.  “Hi, Amy!  Hi, Tara!”

The couple turned and lit up when they saw the Danvers.  “Hi, guys!” they waved.  “We’ll be over in a few minutes!” Amy told them.

The hostess was able to get them seated, and after they had their drinks, Amy and Tara were finally able to come over.  They gave hugs to all of them, and asked why they hadn’t called ahead like normal.

“It was a spur of the moment thing,” Alex explained.  "No biggie."

“Ah, so are we training today, or are you taking it easy?” Amy was curious.  “You look good, don’t get me wrong, but I know you just suffered a traumatic experience.”

Kara tilted her head from side to side in indecision.  “I might make an appearance at the ‘gym’ for a while, but I don’t think I’ll be doing any unnecessary fighting today.”  Then she whispered, “I have to show off my new suit!”

“Ooh!” Amy exclaimed.  “I can’t wait to see that!”

“It’s so awesome!” Jessie bounced happily in her seat.  “You’re gonna love it!”

“Can I come?” Tara requested.

“Yes, but you’ll have to sign some paperwork to get in,” Alex replied.  “You’re not really supposed to know about it.”

Amy grimaced.  “Oops.  Sorry.”

“It’s fine,” Alex rolled her eyes good-naturedly.

“I haven’t told anyone else, I swear,” Amy raised her right hand as if in a courtroom.

“You’d better not,” Alex said seriously this time.

“No one knows about my extracurricular activities,” Amy assured them.  “I want to keep it that way.”

“Good,” Alex nodded.

Without any apparent prompting, the server brought out two appetizer platters and set it on the table.

“Uhh…” Kara said dumbly.  “Sorry, but-”

“That’s from us,” Amy interjected.  “I thought you all might be extra hungry today.”

Kara’s nostrils flared as she inhaled the yummy aroma of the free food.  “You guys are too good to me.”

“I beg to differ,” Amy replied.  “The world is too hard on you.  This is nothing compared to what you do for the city on a regular basis.  Plus, I’d be dead if it weren’t for you.  And you were the main one that was encouraging me to be with Tara, so I owe you for that too.”

Tara blushed, but smiled appreciatively at her partner.  “Well, when you put it that way, you literally helped make my dreams come true.”

Kara’s heart ached with love and appreciation for the pair.  “I-  I’m sorry, I feel stupid right now because I’m really happy, but I don’t know what to say.  I love you guys, and I’m really glad we’re all friends.”

“Me too,” Amy rubbed her shoulder affectionately.  “Unfortunately, we’re pretty busy right now, so we can’t stay and chat for too long at a time.  We’ll be back around to check on you, OK?”

“OK, thanks!” the Danvers all replied.

Amy and Tara got back to work, waving as they went.  When they were gone, the Danvers descended on the food.

“I wish I could help people like you guys do,” Andy sighed.  “All I do is drive a limo.”

“Is there something else you’d rather be doing?” Lena raised her eyebrow.

“Actually, no,” he shook his head.  “I’m not the college type, so I’m not that educated, and I genuinely love you guys, and I’d do just about anything for you all.  I try to think of it like, as long as I’m helping people who help people, I’m doing my part.  I just wish I was a little smarter sometimes.”

Lena put her hand on his arm.  “We appreciate all that you do for us, Andy, especially with the way we’ve been running you lately.”

“I know you do,” he smiled.  “You’re so generous, and you treat me like a friend.  It feels really good.  I’m not worried about running around.  I actually find driving relaxing.”

“I’m glad,” Lena grinned at him.

The rest of their lunch seemed to go by quickly.  They made small talk and stuffed their faces until they were sated.  When it was time to go, they got hugs from Amy and Tara and then headed out.

After that, they went to Kara’s favorite ice cream parlor that had a one-pound banana split with the works.  Kara and the kids could each eat one all to themselves, but even though they were pregnant with Kryptonian children, the mothers-to-be wouldn’t be able to eat all that.  Luckily, there were plenty of other things to choose from.  Andy declined coming in to get ice cream with them, claiming he was over-stuffed from lunch and wanted to rest his eyes while they were inside.  The Danvers spent a good half hour in the parlor joking around, being silly and giggling the whole time.

When they were finished, they had Andy take them home, so the moms-to-be could take a nap.  After all that eating, Kara was inclined to join them, so the twins put on Frozen in the living room to watch while they did their homework and everyone slept upstairs.  Kara only slept for about twenty minutes, so when she woke up, she joined the kids in the living room and snuggled in to watch the rest of the movie with them.  Of course, she couldn’t help but sing along.

After that, Kara woke the moms-to-be so they didn’t sleep all day.  Lena, Alex, and Maggie woke up, but they wanted to snuggle, so Kara and the twins piled into the bed and cuddled and kissed them and poured out their love on them.  They all needed the physical touch and affirmation after the last couple of days.

Soon, it was time for the kids’ training, so they all grabbed a snack and piled into the van, heading to the DEO.  The six of them sang along with the radio all the way there, feeling the good vibes of the day and letting them flow.  When they arrived, the twins and Kara held the moms-to-be’s hands and swung them happily between them.

“There’s our girls,” J’onn greeted them with a warm smile.

“Hey,” Kara hugged him.

“You look like you feel better,” Winn observed, closing in for a hug too.

“So much better,” Kara gave him a reassuring grin.

“I’m glad,” Winn and J’onn said at the same time.

J’onn stroked Alex’s shoulders,  “How are you all holding up?”

“Good,” Alex replied, leaning into his touch.  “We’ve had an amazing day today so far.”

“Yeah!” Kara exclaimed.  “Check it out!”  She super sped into her new suit and stood proudly on display for them.

“Wow!” Winn gasped.

J’onn whistled, impressed.  “Very nice!”

Lena explained the gauntlets' light capabilities and the anti-Kryptonite technology, and Kara showed off the light shields.

“I’m still mad that I wasn’t a part of making it,” Winn complained.

“I’ll make it up to you,” Lena promised.  “And I promise not to hide any of my Supergirl projects from you again.”

This seemed to mildly appease the tech, and he nodded.  “OK,” he grumbled.

“But that doesn’t mean that I still won’t have a few surprises up my sleeves,” Lena winked.

“Same,” he challenged with a smirk.

“Besides, you didn’t invite me to help with Mon-El’s suit, nor any of the others,” Lena pointed out.

“That’s because all I had to do was make them bullet proof,” he replied.  “That’s easy.  It was a job beneath you.  Now, if you want to help me with a few gadgets for Amy, I have some ideas.”

“Sounds great,” Lena grinned.  “Shall we have lunch tomorrow and talk about them?”

Winn nodded excitedly.  “Yes, please.”

“I look forward to it,” Lena purred.  “We should get the kids downstairs, though.”

“Right, right,” Winn shut up.

Down in the training rooms, the Legionnaires, Lyra, and Amy and Tara were already there waiting for them.  When the Danvers came in the room, they stopped their drills for a moment to say hi to everyone and fawn over Kara’s new suit.

“This is too cool!” Amy exclaimed, running her hands over the red shoulders.  “It’s so soft.”

“Yeah, and watch this!”  Kara backed up a little and triggered the light shields.

“Wow!” everyone gasped.

She clapped the shields together and they sparked with a loud buzz, like a light saber.

“How cool!” Tara beamed.  “Thank you for letting me come see it!”

“You’re welcome,” Kara returned her smile.  “I’m glad you could be here.”

The kids spent the next couple of hours training with The Legion and Amy and Lyra.  Tara sat on the sidelines with Kara, Alex, Lena, and Maggie.  She seemed to be fascinated by the sight of everyone in action.  Kara just put her arms around her wives and relaxed, occasionally joining Alex in calling out tips for the girls.  A little before five, Alex declared that it was time to go home and make dinner.  The girls wanted to cook for everyone, since Ruby and Carter and their parents were coming over.  Alex knew they were doing it to suck up, but that wasn't going to let her stop them from cooking.  When the Danvers got home, the kids called their partners and let them know that they could come over anytime now.  They were all gonna have dinner and then have The Talk.

When everyone showed up, Jessie and Jamie latched onto their significant others like koalas.  No one stopped them.  The kids had been really stressed out the last few days since Kara’s defeat at Reign’s hands, so the parents were OK with letting them have that little bit of comfort.  It wasn’t going to stop them from talking, though.

Sam had insisted that Douglas come along, but he made it clear that he was just there for moral support and wouldn’t be interfering unless he was asked a direct question.  Alex tried to put him at ease by insisting that he should be involved at least a little bit with his positions both as Sam’s partner and as the twins’ bodyguard.  Like it or not, he was part of the family, and he should know what was going on.

The kids had made a feast of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and cornbread.  The group gathered around the dining table and descended on the food, complimenting the girls on a job well done.  Before they knew it, everyone was sitting back and sighing in satisfaction.

“Man, this is like holiday eating!” Douglas patted his belly with a grin.

“Yeah, as far as bribes go, that was a good one,” Alex agreed.

“What do you mean, bribe?” Jessie scoffed.

Alex just laughed and shook her head.  “Never mind.”

“We just wanted to have a nice dinner with everyone since we didn’t know when we were gonna be able to see each other next,” Jamie explained, eyes watery.

“Well, that’s one of the things we’re going to talk about tonight,” Alex replied.  “But I’d like to get things cleaned up first.”

“Do we have to help?” Jessie fretted.

“No, you guys made an awesome dinner, we can clean up,” Maggie put her mind at ease.

“Thank you,” the twins echoed gratefully.

“Kara, you stay put,” Lena commanded.

“Let me help,” Douglas insisted.  He and the moms-to-be took all the dishes to the kitchen to be cleaned.  The four of them made quick work of the cleanup and then joined the others in the living room.  The four kids were piled onto one of the couches by themselves, the four Danvers parents filled in another, and Cat, Sam and Douglas sat on the third.

“So,” Alex began, “You kids think you’ve been given the worst punishment ever?”

The kids all nodded sullenly.

“But you guys were caught sneaking off without permission, doing things you aren’t supposed to be doing.  It’s one thing to share a kiss or two here and there, but it’s a whole other thing for you to be making out while sitting in your boyfriend’s lap, or to be blatantly groping each other.  We need to know that you kids can be trusted together, so what are we going to do here?”

“You can trust us, I swear!” Carter pleaded.  “I’m not trying to get in trouble.  I just want to be close to my girlfriend.  I didn’t know what we were doing was going to get us in trouble, or I wouldn’t have done it.”

“Same here,” Jamie pouted.

Alex raised her brow at Jessie and Ruby, awaiting their response.  Surely they wouldn’t say the same thing.

“I don’t see what the big deal is!” Jessie exclaimed.

“And that’s a big problem,” Alex replied.  “You girls are way too young to be doing those things.”

“I agree,” Sam added.

“We’re not having sex, we already told you that,” Ruby huffed.

“And we don’t want you thinking you can,” Sam answered.  “You girls need to prove to us that we can trust you.”

“How are we supposed to do that?  You guys won’t even give us the chance!” Jessie cried out frustratedly.

“I think they have a point,” Maggie spoke up.  “You guys haven’t really given them a chance.”

Alex raised her brow challengingly.

“I’m with Maggie on this,” Lena added.  “I don’t think we’ve really given them a chance.”

“You guys are so paranoid about them making your mistakes, I think it’s making you a little harsh, and, to be honest, paranoid,” Maggie continued.  “You need to remember that they’re not you.”

“Thank you, Maggie,” Jessie sighed in relief that someone was on their side.

Maggie turned to the kids, “That doesn’t mean I think you should sneak off and make out every chance you get.  It just means I think they overreacted a little.”

“Well, what do you propose?” Kara asked.

“Well, I think some extra chores are in order for the sneaking around part,” Maggie answered right away.  “Maybe for a week or two?”

“OK,” Alex replied cautiously, waiting for the rest.

“And I think either Carter should be allowed, or Ruby shouldn’t be allowed to spend the night,” Maggie continued.  “It’s not really fair the way it is, and I don’t see Sam wanting to give up her Saturday nights with Douglas.”

Sam nodded her head, acknowledging that Maggie was right in that assumption.

“Fine,” Alex sighed defeatedly, putting her hands over her face.

“Maybe we can have them sign some sort of contract.  If stipulations are in place that make the rules clear, we can also have clear punishments for breaches of contract,” Lena tried.

“You would think of that,” Cat teased harmlessly.  “Anyway, I trust my son,” she informed them.  “And I do like the contract idea.  I’m jealous I didn’t think of it first.”

“We’ll have to agree on punishments like taking away their sleepover privileges and doing extra chores for certain contract violations,” Sam said thoughtfully.  “I think this can work.”

“Kids?” Kara got their attention.  “What do you think?”

“I think I could be OK with that,” Jessie replied.

“Yeah, me too,” Ruby agreed.  “As long as it’s nothing extreme.”

“Maybe,” Jamie shrugged.

Carter just nodded.

“Speak up, son,” Cat encouraged him.

“I’m with Ruby,” he said finally.  “As long as it’s reasonable.

“OK, Lena, since it was your idea, will you write up the contract?” Alex requested.

“Yes, I will,” Lena agreed.  “Kara will you grab my laptop out of the bedroom, please?”

“Sure.”  Kara zipped upstairs and back with Lena’s laptop.  “Here you go, sweetheart.”

“Thank you, love,” Lena took the laptop and opened it up.  “So, what rules are we putting on here?”

Alex started to tick off on her fingers.  “No sneaking off.  No sitting in each other’s laps.  No groping.  No hands under clothes.  No clothes off.  No sharing a bed with your partner.  No touching private parts or sex of any kind.”

“Anything else?” Lena asked when she was done typing that.

“First offence, extra chores for two weeks,” Maggie suggested.

“Second offense, no sleepovers for a month,” Cat put in.  “Not a total ban from seeing one another, but no bonus time either.”

Jamie blinked.  “Does this mean that Carter gets to spend the night?”

“Yes, dear, keep up,” Cat tutted.

The kids all looked at each other in wonder.

“And two weeks of extra chores,” Cat continued like nothing had stopped her.

“Third offense, no more sleepovers,” Alex added.  “Period.  For my girls that will mean until you move out.”

“And four weeks of extra chores,” Sam suggested.

The kids thought about all this.

“So as long as we don’t violate those rules, we can all sleep over every weekend?” Carter asked hopefully.

“That is correct,” Cat replied.  “Can you do that?”

“Yes!” he nearly shouted

“Girls?”

“I don’t understand why we can’t sit in each others’ laps,” Jessie frowned.

“Oh God.  I’ll explain later,” Alex sighed.

Carter blushed,  “Do you have to?”

“Ugh,” Alex groaned.  She didn’t want to embarrass Carter, but she owed Jessie an explanation for that one.  “I’m sorry, Carter, but we’re gonna have to bite the bullet on this one.”

“Can you at least wait until I’m gone?” he pleaded.

“Yes, we can do that,” Alex replied.

“Thanks,” Carter breathed a sigh of relief.

“OK, I just sent the docs to the printer,” Lena announced.  “Kara, would you mind?”

“Of course.”  Kara zipped up and back with the four copies of the contract.  She handed each of the kids one of the copies, realized she hadn’t grabbed any pens, and zipped back upstairs and back with pens in hand.

“Print your name in the first line at the top, and sign your signature at the bottom,” Lena instructed.

The kids knelt down at the coffee table and put their names on the contracts without a fuss.

“Now, the parents sign,” Lena told them.

All of the parents signed the contracts of their own children.

“Jamie, why are you crying?” Carter panicked, wrapping her in his arms.

She clung to him.  “I’m just relieved that they changed their minds.  I didn’t want to go a whole month without seeing you, and now you get to spend the night.”

Carter seemed to be a little off kilter, but he was a sensitive soul, and he handled it well, softly shushing her and petting her hair until she calmed down.

“Well, I hope everyone is happy now that that’s settled,” Cat said hopefully.

“I’m ecstatic!” Carter proclaimed.  “I swear, we’ll obey the rules at all times.  This is way too good of a deal to pass up.”

“You still have two weeks of extra chores to do, darling, don’t forget,” Cat reminded him.

“That’s way, way better than being banned from each other for a month,” Carter replied.

“Yeah, I agree,” Ruby nodded.

“Yeah,” the twins echoed.

Alex sighed.  “I’m still wary about this.”

“I promise, we’ll be good, Mom,” Jessie swore.  “I feel like this is a lot more fair.”

“I swear, if any of you get pregnant before you finish college, I will make your life a living nightmare,” Alex threatened.

“We won’t, Mom,” Jamie assured her.  “You can trust us.”

Alex nodded, but didn’t say anything more.

“Can we watch a movie before everyone goes home?” Jessie requested.

Sam looked at her watch.  “You can watch something an hour long, if it’s OK with your parents.”

“Is your homework done?” Alex asked.

“Yes,” the twins answered.

Alex looked at her wives for confirmation.  When she got it, she simply said, “OK.”  She snuggled into Maggie, burying her nose in the detective’s neck and closing her eyes.  She felt emotionally drained and tired, and she planned on zoning out for a while.

Maggie kissed the top of her head and held her close.  “I love you, Alex,” she whispered.  “I’m really proud of you.”

Alex didn’t reply, but she burrowed into Maggie’s neck a little further.  The kids watched a couple of episodes of a show Alex had never heard of before, and she didn’t bother to catch the name.  The others chit chatted a bit around her, but she didn’t pay attention to that either.  Before she knew it, everyone was saying goodbye.  She gave everyone hugs in a daze, and sent the twins off to get ready for bed.

The foursome went to their room to do the same, but as soon as the door closed, it was like a damn broke inside of Alex, and she started crying.

“Alex!” the other three immediately turned to her.  Kara wrapped her up in her arms and held her tightly.  “What’s wrong, baby?”

It took a few seconds for Alex to get the words out.  “I- I’m not-  I’m just not ready for my kids to be so grown up!” she sobbed.

Kara laid her head on Alex’s.  “I know, baby.  I know.”

“I’m scared of them making the same mistakes we did, only younger,” Alex continued.  “I don’t want my kids to have to go through that.”

Kara rocked her wife and gently shushed her while Maggie and Lena held her from the sides.  “I know it’s scary, but you know what?”

“What?” Alex whimpered.

“We have some pretty fantastic kids.  They’re so grown up and mature because you’ve been such a good mom to them, Alex.  You should be proud of them.  I know I am,” Kara encouraged.

“I am proud of them,” Alex sobbed.  “I’m so proud of them, I couldn’t be prouder.  It’s just that they’re growing up so fast, and I can’t stop it.  I feel like they’re slipping away.”

“Hey, you’ll never really lose them, babe,” Maggie offered.  “They love you, and I know they don’t want to lose you either.”

“Maggie’s right,” Lena agreed.  “It may be hard the next few years, but they’ll always come back around to you.  You’re a wonderful mother, Alex.”

The kids knocked on the door.

“Come in,” Alex called out.

“Mommy, what’s wrong?” Jessie worried, running over and hugging her.

“I’m pregnant, and my emotions are getting the better of me,” she sniffled, trying to ease their worry.

Jamie hugged her too.  “We love you, Mom.  Thank you for listening to us today.  I really appreciate it.”

“You’re welcome, babies,” she sniffled, kissing their damp heads.  “Please, please be good.  I know you’re good kids, but please.”

“We will, Mom,” Jessie swore.

“Yeah, we will,” Jamie promised.  “I feel like I got a really good deal, and I don’t want to mess it up.”

“Good,” Alex nodded.  “Let us get changed, and we can cuddle for a little bit before you go to bed.”

“OK!”  The kids bounced off to Jessie’s room to wait for their parents to get into their jammies.

“Are you gonna be OK?” Kara asked Alex.

“Yeah,” Alex said, taking a deep breath.  “I’ll feel better after I snuggle my babies for a little while.”

They all washed up and changed, and then Alex called the twins back in.  The six of them piled into the master bed, each kid on either side of Alex.  She put her arms around them, and they snuggled close to her, putting their hands on her belly.

“I really am proud of you girls,” Alex told them.  “You’ve been doing so well with your studies, and keeping up with your homework, and training, and helping out around the house.  I’m sorry I overreacted the other day.”

“It’s OK, Mom,” Jamie assured her.  “We’re proud of you too.”

“You are?”

“Yeah,” Jessie agreed.  “You’ve been really good at staying safe and keeping the baby healthy.  We know you’re a total badass, but you’ve curbed your impulses, and we know how hard that is for you.”

Alex blinked in surprise.  “Well, thank you.”

“We’re proud of all of you,” Jamie added.  “You’ve all been doing really great.”

“Yeah,” Jessie agreed.

The adults all thanked them sincerely.  “We’re proud of you girls too,” Maggie told them.

“Thank you,” the twins replied in sync.

They sat quietly for a few minutes before Jessie remembered her question from earlier, “How come we can’t sit in each other’s laps?”

Alex groaned.  “Look, sometimes teenage boys have a hard time controlling their…”

“Their what?” Jessie prodded.

“Oh, for God’s sake,” Maggie huffed when Alex cringed.  “Their erections.  Teenagers are full of hormones, and it’s not their fault, but it happens.

The twins blanched.  “Oh.”

“Why can’t Ruby and I do that then?” Jessie pouted.

“Well, you run the chance of being Alphas , and besides, it’s just more fair that way,” Alex explained.

“Oh,” was all Jessie said, and she didn’t press any further.

The family cuddled for a good half hour, talking and singing to the babies.  When the twins started yawning uncontrollably, Alex sent them to bed.

“Goodnight, my loves,” she told them.

“Goodnight, Mom, we love you,” the girls replied.  They shared love and hugs and kisses with everyone and went back to their own rooms.

“I feel like I could sleep for a week,” Alex yawned herself.  “Are we ready for bed?”

She got a resounding, “Yes,” all around.  They gave each other kisses and love and tucked themselves into bed, falling asleep almost immediately.
