Capítulo 75: C75: Game Show

"Come in," I responded.

After hearing my response, the office door opened. Lin Rou, an assistant I had recruited previously walked in holding a document.

"Mr. Chen, the gaming exhibition organizers have sent an invitation asking if we'd like to participate in this year's event. Here's the layout for the exhibition area, divided by categories," Lin Rou said, handing me the venue map for the exhibition.

I took in the document from Lin Rou and looked at it—a simple rendering of the site.

From the map view, I could see that the exhibition covers a total area of fifty thousand square meters and consists of seven exhibition areas. Our company, Neon Games, has been invited to the sixth area, which is designated for independent games.

We'd been allotted about five hundred square meters of booth space, which is quite large—at least for the independent game section, it puts us among the top names.

But honestly, I had never paid much attention to exhibitions, even in this parallel world.

I didn't give Lin Rou an immediate answer. Instead, I searched the Internet to get a better understanding.

Similar to my previous life, this world also has various gaming exhibitions, though the approach here is slightly different. This particular exhibition isn't purely commercial.

Apart from industry giants like NetDragon and Tenghua, the exhibition also has an official sponsorship—specifically from the gaming department. The event's purpose, as stated, is

"To promote the Prosperity, equity, Innovation, and culture within the domestic gaming industry."

The exhibition venue changes every year. This year, it's in Shanghai, set to take place in early July, which gives us about two months to prepare. The event lasts for five days.

The reason we didn't receive advance notice is that the exhibition is non-commercial. In short, they send invitations to the first batch of local developers a little over two months before the event. If you want to participate, you have to register. If not, other developers get a chance to join.

Whether a developer reveals new games or uses the opportunity to connect with players is entirely up to them. The exhibition provides the platform, and it's up to us to make the most of it.

"Got it. Let the organizers know we'll be participating. Also, speak to Zhang Yi to work out a plan for our booth at the exhibition," I instructed Lin Rou.

"Understood, Mr. Chen," Lin Rou nodded before leaving to find Zhang Yi.

With that settled, I picked up the exhibition documents. I started reviewing the details, already formulating ideas for how to make the most of this opportunity.

The area we'd been given is quite spacious, giving us flexibility. However, I had already decided not to bring two of our games to the exhibition.

Magic Mirror, though well-received by our players and very harmonious in tone, wouldn't be suitable for the exhibition.

Similarly, I decided not to showcase Escape. The game's dark theme and disturbing background wouldn't work in the context of the exhibition. No one will decorate their booth as a Mental hospital. Even if we do... It will be straight embarrassing and odd.

And besides, there would be so many people during the day—it wouldn't make sense to scare them.

However, showcasing Undertale, To The Moon, and Overcooked feels unsatisfying.

I had been thinking about what kind of game to develop next, and now I have some ideas.

In two months, there's no way to complete a medium or larger game.

But during this period, it's possible to develop two smaller-scale games.

This aligns well with the direction of the Neon game platform.

The timeline is tight, but compared to a year ago, the Neon team has expanded further.

We can still make it in time if we hurry.

In addition to these two games. I'm also planning to surprise players at the upcoming game exhibition.

With limited time, I've decided to prioritize. Even making a DEMO isn't realistic right now.

But I'm not worried.

After all, there's something known as a teaser announcement—let's draw this tempting cake for the players first.

We're close to having something ready.

While drafting the design concepts, the official staff of the game exhibition reached out to me.

They needed to plan the layout of the exhibition area based on Neon Games' setup.

They also offered to handle requests like hiring cosplayers, and mascots or arranging performances, or I could contact the appropriate agencies myself.

Since the event is happening in Shanghai, I took a moment to visit the venue and assess the situation before finalizing decisions.

After all, since I'm participating in this exhibition, I want to give it my best shot.

Moreover, the popularity of game exhibitions in the Country is quite high, making this a great opportunity for exposure and publicity.

"The fifth and seventh districts next to the sixth one belong to Tenghua and Net Dragon?" I asked as I noticed the bustling activity at the exhibition site.

Staff were busy setting up posters and equipment.

"Not entirely. They're showcasing more games and studios, but it's shared,"one of the staff answered with a smile.

I nodded, showing my understanding.

Companies at the level of Tenghua and Net Dragon, can't rely on just one studio. Including the game studios they've acquired, they are also involved.

"I've got a general grasp of the situation now. I'll give you a detailed plan before Wednesday," I said.

"Understood, Mr. Chen. Do you have any specific requirements for cosplayers? Should we contact candidates through our exhibition, or would you prefer to go through an agency yourself?" the staff member asked.

"Let's go through the exhibition. It'll save us some hassle," I replied after a moment of thought.

"Alright, Mr. Chen. Are there any specific requirements for the cosplayers?" the staff member asked again.

After all, the cosplayers need to match the image of the game.

For instance, you wouldn't want a mature woman cosplaying as a young girl character.

"Hmm... no strict requirements. No gender restrictions, but one thing is necessary—they should be in good physical shape. I don't want anyone too frail," I said after thinking.

The staff member on the other end seemed dumbfounded.

What...? Did they hear that right?

No gender restrictions, but good physical strength?

It's normal to ask for someone fair-skinned, taller, or curvier. Those are common.

But what does good physical strength have to do with it?

Am I looking for a cosplayer or someone to help me move things?
