The screams echoed through the hallways of the hallways of the labyrinth, not too far away. I began running towards the sound, wondering what the commotion could be.
What the hell?!?! There are people down here?!?!
As I neared the sound of screaming, I slowed my pace, hoping to stay hidden. I peek my eyes around a corner to attempt a glimpse of what the commotion is about. There were bodies strewn across the hallway, most of which missing limbs. Blood splatter stained the stone walls and the smell was horrid.
Past the bodies there was a human trying to crawl away from a large fur-covered monster. It's black horns covered in blood as it towered over the man, giant cleaver in hand. A Minotaur. I could tell that as I was now, I would be completely destroyed by the monster if I were to fight it here. So I stayed hidden and watched as the minotaur grabbed the man by his waist and picked him up, like you would pick up a can of soda. And just like a soda can, the minotaur squeezed, breaking every bone in the man's body and killing him almost immediately. The minotaur began to ate the man right in front of me, and I had no choice but to stay hidden.
WHAT THE FUCK?!?! WHY IS SOMETHING THAT STRONG DOWN HERE?!?!
The minotaur finisher its meal and left, going the other direction. The ground shook with every single stomp, and I stayed hidden until I couldn't feel the steps anymore. Stepping out into the hallway, the slaughter before me was repulsing. About five bodies strewn across the hallway, clad in full black thieve's attire; two women and three men. They were all dead and dismembered, or so I thought. One of the men began to cough up blood, one arm missing and a large gash across his chest.
"HEY, what happened here? Why are you down here?"
"A talking zombie, that's new. So what, are you gonna eat me now or not."
"I'm not a zombie, I'm just taking this form to move around easier down here."
I moved closer to the man, and kneeled down next to him. I dragged him to the wall and sat him up against it.
"I guess that makes sense, monsters wouldn't pay you any mind if they thought you were one of them."
The man was struggling to get every word out, the life slowly leaving his body. He pulled his mask and hood off, revealing hair as white as the moonlight.
"So, what's your name stranger? Who am I spending my last minutes with?"
I thought for a moment, and Darren didn't seem like an appropriate name anymore. That life was long since past.
Think, whats a good name for myself. Mimic, chest, fangs. Mimics are known for their massive fangs right? What's "fangs" in Latin again? Oh right....
"My name is Dentes, and I'm kinda lost down here. Do you have any clue how to get back to the entrance from here?"
"Once you enter, the only way out is through. We came for the artifact, the minotaur is -agh- guarding it, but I have the key."
He pulled out a large dagger, its blade as long as his forearm. It was a beautiful weapon, obviously well maintained. It had a brown wooden hilt wrapped in leather, with a small silver guard at the top of the hilt and a large red crystal at the other end. The blade itself had a slight curve upward, and looked extremely sharp.
"Take it, maybe you might find some use for it."
The man handed me the blade with his dying breath, and collapsed.
This dagger is beautiful, I'm definitely holding onto it after I get out of here. Now, I can't let all this food go to waste.
I stood up and pointed my palm toward the man's body, and used Skill Vacuum to absorb him, leaving only his clothing behind. I then went to the rest of the bodies and did the same with them, gaining their power.
ATTENTION: The following skills have been acquired:
Flawed Mimicry: Human
Shadow Step
Swift Step
The skills Shadow Step and Swift Step have merged into a single skill: Shadow Movement, this skill allows you to disappear into shadows and be temporarily invulnerable to damage. However, you must leave the shadows in order to attack.
Alright, human form acquired. And I keep Undead Resilience even in human form, so I can reattach any limbs I might lose. Sweet! Alright, let's test out this human form.
"Flawed Mimicry: Human!"
I felt my body morph and change shape, my zombie features changing for new, more human ones. I stood there, completely naked yet human. The body was slim, yet muscular and I had a mix of feminine and masucline features. A side effect of absorbing all the bodies but it didn't matter to me, I had a human body now. My hair was shoulder length and white, the same color as the man's from before, but the length if the women's. My face was ambiguous, and I could be mistaken as male or female. My eyes matched the color of my mana, a deep purple which contrasted with my white hair.
Okay, I can't just have a first name, I need a surname as well. Now what will it be? I should probably keep the Latin theme, but what feature should my surname come from? My hair is white, it reminds me of the moon in the night sky. Okay so what is "moonlit" in Latin? C'mon think, think. Oh, I remember! Lunam!
From that moment onward, Darren The Human was no more. I was now Dentes Lunam, The Mimic. I grabbed the clothes from the dead bodies, picking and choosing the pieces from each that weren't damaged or covered in blood. Black leather armor on top of a slim fitting black shirt and pants. I threw on one of their cloaks as well, and sheathed the dagger at the back of my hip. I picked up a shortsword from one of the thieves, and attached the sheathe to my back. I was now fully ready for the fight to come, and my escape from this labyrinth.
