Capítulo 1: A New Beginning

'Hm, and what do we have here...'

Two piercing eyes carefully examine Jane as those words are being said. Reluctantly Jane tries to look away, but to no avail, for the hand on her head rather forcefully keeps her in place, so as not to break eye contact with the woman before her. Bitterly Jane wondered how exactly she ended up in this situation.

Almost an hour or so ago Jane had been briskly walking through the streets of Antwerp. She had tucked herself in her long dark coat in a desperate attempt to shield herself from the rain, all the while cursing under her breath for buying a coat without a hood. Jane nimbly avoided the crowds of people while continuing her fast pace. The night was still young and many folk were headed to the local bars and clubs, ready to party the night away. On any other night she might have joined them, but now she found herself walking the opposite direction, to the quiet small streets instead of the buzzing center of the city. Leaving the closed shops and buildings with their colorful ads behind, she quickly made her way to the outskirts of the city, where only houses and apartments lined the streets. The more she walked, the more the crowd thinned, until Jane was the sole person traversing the road. For a moment she appreciated the quietness. The tapping of her boots on the pavement and the sound of falling rain. Jane only slowed down when she accidentally stepped into a puddle, feeling the wetness rapidly reach her socks. Only then did she notice a prickling sensation, a pair of eyes burning into her back. She turned her head ever so slightly, trying to see if she could notice something in the corner of her eye, but the street was empty. There was no entity lurking in the shadows, though with the light from all of the streetlights there was hardly any shadow left to lurk in. Still, the feeling wouldn't go away and Jane subconsciously quickened her pace again, hoping to outrun whoever of whatever was following her. Now the silence became unnerving, instead of comforting.

An almost unnaturally chilly breeze hit her face and she shrunk even more into the depths of her coat. A shiver hit her body and she instinctively turned around, as if compelled by some unnatural force. Just as she did so the lights went out, covering the street in a blanket of darkness. Nonetheless the road was vacated, except for Jane, but she stood patiently still, vainly trying to keep her heart rate in check. At once understanding that this wasn't a normal situation she instead decided to face her stalker. She couldn't allow herself to be chased down like prey. She counted the seconds while keeping her eyes on the street before her, straining herself to make out any movements in the dark. Jane placed her hand into her pocket and curled her fingers around a metal object. She didn't know what use it would have, but holding it did make her feel safer. Then she realized she was facing the wrong way.

A cold and heavy hand fell on her shoulder. It immediately tightened its grip and Jane felt her body lock up. Unable to move she watched as another hand appeared on her other shoulder. The hands were gloved, but they still radiated an intense chill. Slowly one of the hands moved to her face, trailing her neck with its fingertips. The hand continued until it reached Jane's eyes. It paused for a few seconds and then carefully covered them, engulfing Jane in a complete darkness. She felt the other hand envelop her waist, while the space on her shoulder was replaced by a heavier object. Strands of hair caressed her cheek as two sharp teeth rested on her neck, though no warm breath accompanied it. What felt like minutes seemed to pass until the teeth sunk into her flesh and her world exploded. A flash of light appeared before Jane's eyes along with emotions and feelings she never thought she had. Then the darkness reclaimed her once more. When she arose to consciousness she found herself lying on the ground, surrounded by a group of people. Feebly she swung her arm towards them, as a sign of help. Instead, they forced her up, blindfolded and tied her, dragged her to a car and made their way to the building she was currently in.

Once in the building Jane was rough-handedly forced unto her knees. The blindfold was removed and a hand was placed on her head, preventing her from looking around. Jane weakly yielded. She was too tired and languid to fight back. Aside from that there was a gnawing hunger in her stomach, which made it harder for her to focus or to even think clearly. Instead she looked at the woman standing before her, illuminated by the city lights shining through the window behind her. She was a tall woman, seemingly middle-aged with blond hair pulled into a tight ponytail. A pair of glasses adorned her stern face and she was dressed in typical businesswoman attire. The woman carefully crossed her arms and looked straight at Jane, slowly rising an eyebrow.

'Hm, And what do we have here...?'
