Chapter 35 — Railgun.
Jason Star's Daily Log | Day 136.
Main Factory | 3:35 PM.
Under Sasaki's request, Jason came to the main factory of Toha Heavy Industry.
The reason being about the new railgun weapon that was now recently completed.
It was time for the weapon's classified test trial tomorrow.
"Hello, Mr. Tanba," Jason smiled as he greeted the old geezer who's also an experienced engineer.
Tanba who was teaching and guiding the workers, looked toward Jason before simply nodding his head.
"Here for the new weapon, ain't yah?"
"Yes, Sasaki requested me to be the one to test the new weapon for tomorrow's trial examination. I came here because I wanted to see the completed version beforehand."
"Good luck then," Tanba continued teaching and guiding the workers.
"Jason! You're finally here," Sasaki went to approach him. "Follow me, I'll show you the new weapon."
Jason followed after Sasaki — nay, she was actually dragging him by force, grabbing his hand strongly.
While they walked forward, Jason happened to see something interesting on their way.
"Eh, what's that about?"
Jason was looking at the several never-seen-before mechanical joints that seemed to be made for the Guardian Knights.
"That's the new joint parts we're making to further optimize the movements of Guardian Knights," Sasaki explained while stopping on her tract. "These new joints uses special coating known as Magnetic Coating."
"Magnetic Coating? Isn't that what you used to create the magnetic field for the first prototype of the railgun?"
"Yeah, but I decided to use it for other purposes. One of them was coating the joints with the Magnetic Coating, so that when energized by Higgs Particles, repels the joints movement to the point of zero-friction. By doing so, the reaction time of a Guardian Knight will increase by additional 30%, enabling a more faster and responsive body motions."
"I can't wait to try it out on real action."
Jason slightly didn't expect Sasaki to change the Magnetic Coating Technology of Mr. Alien, which originally used for weapon purposes, into something that would reduce the friction of joints, enabling a swift and unnatural maneuverability by also complementing the various strengths of the Guardian Knight.
The two of them soon stopped before an breathtaking weapon that was simply huge, longer than Rokurome was tall.
"This is completed version of the railgun that you'll test tomorrow. Not bad right?"
Jason nodded without any thoughts about lying.
"What's the name of this very fine weapon?"
"The Extreme High Speed Acceleration Mass Driver Sniper!" Sasaki declared with a large smile.
"Is only one of this weapon currently available?"
"Right, but we're now starting to mass-produce it along with the exploding penetrative shells."
Jason then asked Sasaki to explain the completed version of the railgun to him in more detailed information. It was the best to learn from the creator herself.
Sasaki started to explain toward Jason in way that was not too long, but still filled with crucial details.
To summarize, the Extreme High Speed Acceleration Mass Driver Sniper was a railgun that utilized an extremely intensified electromagnetic field to accelerate a kinetic penetrative and exploding shells at an extreme velocity with pinpoint accuracy and almost blinding speed.
This weapon uses electromagnetic field instead of magnetic field because the electromagnetic field was more ideal to create the most powerful acceleration that also possessed incredible firing range and linear accuracy in addition to an overwhelming amount of pure kinetic energy.
It could also use the spatial energy (composed of G-Forces and Inertia) stored within the new ultra-compact spatial converter storage to allow for a more powerful force as well as causing the maximum range to reach an astonishing 500 Kilometers range.
"So powerful... I can't wait to try it out," Jason was excited to experiment with it.
"Don't worry, you'll be able to wield it sooner or later."
"Mnn, then please equip the new weapon to Rokurome," Jason requested to prepare for tomorrow.
Sasaki simply nodded as her response.
Jason also thought of something while observing the mass driver.
"Isn't it a good Idea to also install this new weapon on Sidonia itself? If we installed many mass drivers, Sidonia will capable of using its own defensive measures against any threats closing by. It will also help us pilots if the Gauna is within range."
"Sounds like a good idea, but we'll have to gain Kobayashi's approval first."
"But I'm sure she will accept the proposal in the end. You must already know how she thinks about Sidonia's survival."
"Haha, you're right," Sasaki laughed as she thought about Kobayashi's personality.
After meeting with Sasaki, Jason returned home. While preparing dinner, he heard from the radio that the Colony Ship had already departed from Sidonia in advance to prepare the Lem System for the main immigration wave.
Jason simply thought it was kinda foolish because the Colony Ship was heading toward the Lem System while completely defenseless, stupidly thinking that the Gauna wouldn't harm them if they're just unarmed.
It was ridiculous, but some people were really that stupid. Only regretting things when things were about to end for them.
Humanity was really filled with the same problems no matter how many age or time have passed.
Jason then thought about the Lem System.
Lem System....
It was similar to the Solar System which has already been destroyed.
Jason kinda missed his life back at earth, nostalgic about the beautiful nature, the endless sea, and the merged one continent that stretched without end.
However, such were just distant memories now.
Jason then thought about a masked young girl back on Earth, the very first person he had ever saved in his first life.
He wondered if she managed to survive the destruction of Earth.
...
Space | 8:00 PM.
The next day...
Rokurome was currently floating in space while holding a railgun that was huge, longer than a Guardian Knight was tall. Many barrel extensions can be removed but at the cost of the range and accuracy reducing.
Rokurome aimed the railgun toward the test dummy floating ahead of it. Jason didn't even needed to rely on the aiming system, but just through pure skills and experience.
He took a deep breath before eventually pressing the trigger.
Bang!
A thunderous firing sound echoed — a large shell leaving the nozzle of the railgun, leaving powerful shockwaves behind.
Rokurome flew back from the powerful recoil power, but it quickly stabilised with Jason using the Mass Control Balance System to his own advantage.
BANG!
The shell pierced the dummy, causing it immediately explode into ashes.
The power was incredibly powerful. Almost frightening to witness.
"Target Hit!" Jason announced as he connected to the command unit. "The dummy has been destroyed successfully. There's also no problem with the new weapon itself, even with the recoil and stability."
"Understood! The scheduled test is finally over with this success," Sasaki replied within her base operation.
"Today's secret operational trial is now officially closed," Yuhata announced calmly while feeling excited about the new weapon.
"Pilot Jason, you may now return to Sidonia."
"Roger," Jason answered while controlling Rokurome to fly back to Sidonia.
"Jason, you've performed much better than I first expected. Have you already experienced using a mass driver before?" Sasaki asked while looking at Jason who slowly left the cockpit.
Jason removed his helmet before replying to her question.
"No, I haven't used it before. It might be because I'm just too talented."
To be honest, he had already used a mass driver several times before through the use of virtual simulations.
"Aiii, look at you being so boastful," Sasaki clicked her tongue.
Jason chuckled lightly, but then heard a loud siren echoing everywhere.
An enemy Gauna was detected after being send out by Ocarina.
However, the Gauna's target wasn't Sidonia, but the Colony Ship itself that was already 9,000 Kilometers away from Sidonia.
And the distance between the Colony Ship and the Gauna were approximately just 90 kilometers away from each others.
The Guardian Knights couldn't possibly reach them in time, even with the use of the palm formation.
It might be a good idea to just leave the pacifist alone in order to let the people know about their own foolishness.
However, that wasn't a reasonable action when they have the capability to save them. It was more reasonable to bring hope and confidence to everyone within Sidonia, rather than spreading despair and anxiousness due to the destruction of the Colony Ship.
All actions were for the greater good, so personal emotions mustn't be involved.
And Kobayashi knew of a man who holds the power of hope that brings light and peace to every humans.
"Pilot Jason, I want you — to use the new weapon to eliminate the Gauna endangering the Colony Ship!"

Okay, I've already finished the new prologue which is still the same as before but with more added scenarios, still need major edits lol. I didn't restrict myself writing, so it is kinda weird.
I will upload it gather your guys thoughts before replacing it with the current chapter 1. Please tell me if its bad or not.
