Chapter 48 — Mission Complete.
Aoki and Midorikawa hurriedly flew toward the immobile Rokurome to safely bring Jason back. They also couldn't leave the badly damaged Rokurome behind as its worth was simply too precious compared to normal Guardian Knight.
"You okay inside there, Jason?" Aoki questioned using the voice channel while hovering near Rokurome.
Jason laughed weakly while looking around his cockpit, seeing his own blood splattered all over the place.
"Yeah, I think so."
If Aoki were to see inside his cockpit, he would definitely curse at Jason. The scene definitely didn't look okay.
Although Jason's state looked very bad, he was confident that he would quickly recover with enough rest. Heck, he didn't even need medical help.
The only problem that troubled him was the growing desire within him. He felt the urge to eat a lot of things. It was very strong.
If not for his strong mentality, he might have already resorted to cannibalism.
This was the dangerous side of Gluttony that even devoured his own flesh and blood while activated. Fortunately, he only activated it for a few seconds.
"How about Akai? Did anything happen to him?" Jason asked quickly.
"He's fine. However, the aftershock left him unconscious."
"That's a relief. I'll visit him once he wakes up."
Aoki and Midorikawa soon began to carry Rokurome by holding it from both sides.
"Sidonia is now about the launch the Anti-Planetary Missile!"
"Immediate retreat!"
Hearing those warnings from the command bridge, Jason quickly urged them to hurry up.
They soon regrouped with the second platoon, forming into a gigantic clasp formation as they took the retreat route Yuhata made for them in order to quickly and safely leave the asteroid.
As the entire second platoon strictly followed the route, the Anti-Planetary Missile was finally launched.
Thankfully, the second platoon had already managed to leave the asteroid. They then regrouped with the first platoon, who already retreated way before them, halfway through their return.
On their journey toward Sidonia, Jason inquired someone from the first platoon to explain what happened on their side.
Listening to the brief explanation, Jason's complexion grew dark. It was because he heard that several of the talented pilots died as the numbers of the Gaunas were simply too overwhelming. Fortunately, they managed to hold onto their post thanks to their perseverance and skills. It was also partly due to the excellent leadership of Kunato Norio and excellent skills of Tanikaze Nagate. Overall, every pilot did their very best even when facing death itself.
Jason knew that he couldn't change the fate of the pilots that died honourably. All he could do was honour and respect their death—continuing their legacy and will.
No, there was also something else only he could do.
Vengeance.
He would shoulder their death and take vengeance upon to their enemies.
As two humongous rings, formed from clasp formation, flew quickly through the space, Jason managed to catch sight of the missile landing onto the asteroid, causing a deafening explosion to ensue.
With that kind of powerful explosion, Jason was sure of the gigantic asteroid being pulverized into pieces.
He was also certain that the Dragon-Type Gauna was still alive.

"Blood Hell Asteroid Destruction Confirmed!"
"Danger has been avoided!"
The large main screen turned black as they lost vision.
The asteroid was successfully destroyed!
This revelation caused Yuhata and the two assistants to cheer, however, it only lasted for a few moments. The dead pilots made them fall silent.
Kobayashi remained stoic under her expressionless mask. Her heart had already grown cold after seeing countless people dying.
However, for some reason, the thought of 'him' dying caused tremors to appear in her cold heart
"How are the pilots' current condition?" Kobayashi soon asked.
"Majority are healthy, but some are seriously injured like Pilot Jason. However, they are relatively safe from danger."
Kobayashi nodded subtlety, feeling her heart growing lighter.
"Are there no longer dangers that might threaten Sidonia?"
Yuhata looked at the two assistants before replying.
"For the time being, there are currently no dangers that might potentially threaten Sidonia."
"I see, good work. Then it's time for all of you to rest properly," Kobayashi said towards them before leaving the command bridge.
Yuhata and the two assistants sighed tiredly before also taking their leaves later on.
Today was a stressful day…

Toha Heavy Industry | Military Hangar
Rokurome settled down in the hangar, its appearance looking extremely battered and haggard.
Sasaki sighed while observing Rokurome's current state, thinking inwardly that it would take a long time period to properly repair it.
At the same time, she felt angry for Jason handling Rokurome so roughly.
Her poor baby….
Sasaki waited for the cockpit to open while thinking of reprimanding Jason harshly.
However, those words soon got stuck in her throat after the cockpit fully opened.
"What happened to you?" She asked with her eyes sweeping over the bloody mess inside the cockpit.
Jason's complexion was very pale, looking weak and exhausted.
"Should I call the medics to treat you immediately?"
Jason chuckled lightly, shaking his head in disagreement.
"Don't call them. I'll heal on my own much faster after resting enough."
Sasaki didn't doubt his words as she knew his body was different from normal. It was much more amazing than a normal human body. However, she wondered what happened outside to cause Jason to look so weak.
This was the first time.
Next time, she should definitely watch when the pilots fight against the Gauna.
Jason patted the control handle of Rokurome, feeling apologetic towards it.
'Sorry for pushing you too far, partner…"
He also apologized toward Sasaki for wrecking Rokurome so badly. He knew better than anyone how much damage Rokurome suffered from the crimson lightning.
"Don't mind it. Heck, I was even thinking of adding new upgrades for Rokurome, so this severe as the perfect opportunity."
Sasaki shook her head.
"I'll leave you alone since I have to check the others too. Take care!" She waved her hand before leaving.
Jason looked forward to the upgraded Rokurome, as he needed the upgrade to defeat the Dragon-Type Gauna.
Although he was extremely exhausted beyond relief, Jason forcefully dragged himself to exit the cockpit. Upon exiting, he saw a familiar face in front of him. It was a beautiful face.
Jason even thought he was hallucinating from being too exhausted. He dragged his aching body towards her and soon fell tiredly into her warm embrace.
A fair white lady, wearing a sexy nurse outfit, caught his falling body. She embraced him tightly so he wouldn't fall to the ground.
Jason smiled as he felt the lady's soft and plump body, her pleasant natural smell relaxing his tensed nerves.
A cold yet soothing voice soon entered his ears.
"You had it tough, Jason. You did a very good job."
It was Kobayashi who uttered those words with hints of emotion.
She then managed to see the large amount of blood that was splattered all over his suit and cockpit.
"This amount of blood is unnatural… Is this the side-effect of using the power of that alien within you?"
Jason nodded as he noticed Kobayashi gazing at him with concealed worry.
"Don't worry, I'm okay now. Although I'm so tired that I can barely lift my fingers."
"Then I'll help you until you completely recover."
Jason was quite surprised, but didn't reject her offer.
"If I will not bother you with your work, then I'll gladly accept help from a tender nurse like you."
He was then startled to see Kobayashi placing his left arm around her shoulder to support him.
His nose was closer to her head, allowing her to further smell her bewitching and irresistible scent.
Jason asked awkwardly.
"Am I not heavy for you?"
Kobayashi shook her head.
"This is nothing. Despite how I look, I was a former pilot that received strict physical training, so my strength is not lacking compared to other trained men."
"That's wonderful… And most importantly, I'm glad to know more about you."
Jason knew too little about this mysterious masked commander. He then started to count within his mind. Kobayashi was a commander, a hotel receptionist, a nurse, and a former pilot. What else?
It was intriguing for him.
Kobayashi stopped for a moment, looking at his face that was very near before quickly looking forward.
"If you're that curious, I could tell you about myself about things not too important or classified."
Jason nodded his head, feeling inwardly joyful to see her opening up with him.
Maybe it was a sign they were getting closer?

Treehouse | 12:58 PM.
Jason managed to regain some strength shortly after arriving home. He took a shower and changed into a new clean clothing.
Arriving at the kitchen after showering, he was surprised to see a bowl of steam porridge at the table.
"Did you cook this?"
"I thought you need to eat something that wasn't too heavy to refresh your body and mind."
Jason sat down and picked up his spoon, very eager to taste the porridge made by Kobayashi herself.
And after taking a bite, a tender smile quickly bloomed on his face.
"It's so delicious!" Jason praised in astonishment. It even reminded him of the most delicious porridge cooked by the nanny of the orphanage.
"I'm glad you liked It."
After hearing Jason's praise, Kobayashi smiled slightly. It was almost unnoticeable to the eyes, but he was able to notice it while staring at her beautiful face, causing his heart to beat faster.
His flustered face was evident, so left with no other choice, he continued to eat the porridge to somewhat satisfy the growing hungry desire within him.
To his shock, after eating the food she made, his gluttony was quickly growing satisfied.
Jason soon finished several bowls without even pausing, surprising Kobayashi so much.
Was it really that good?
After eating so much, Jason started to feel very sleepy.
He laid on his bed and thought that today might seem like a nightmare, but there still exists tiny happiness within it.
"Do you need anything else?" Kobayashi asked while standing beside his bed.
As he laid on the soft bed, Jason was already feeling extremely drowsy. His eyelids were very heavy, but hearing her question, he abruptly grabbed her hand tightly.
"I wanna embrace you again…" He mumbled quietly, before pulling her strongly into his bed.
He wasn't conscious any longer, but his subconscious flaring up suddenly.
Already deeply asleep, Jason hugged Kobayashi's soft body tightly, as if not wanting to let her go.
Kobayashi was slightly flustered and her body turned stiff as a rock. She tried struggling to escape, but Jason was even more rock hard than she was.
Finally deciding that her actions were futile as Jason won't wake up, she could only helplessly lay beside him.
Now that she was no longer thinking of struggling, she was finally able to slowly clearly feel the sensation of Jason hugging her tenderly.
It wasn't uncomfortable for her, no, she even felt cozy within his embrace!
Kobayashi was thinking that everything would be alright, but she couldn't stop her heart from beating faster as Jason's warm body enveloped her entire being.
No, this was bad! Her brain was going hazy and mushy again.
Slowly but surely, Kobayashi started to love Jason's warmth that enveloped her like a blanket. Before she knew it, she also fell asleep, hugging him back tightly, afraid that he would suddenly disappear.
Just like that, the two slept with each other, enjoying each others warmth and scent.
