Capítulo 19: Chapter 19: A Lesson in Sumerki

Time passes and I receive more head slaps. Apparently, Pautina has less patience for one with a mind that wanders. Our lessons are held in the library. There she provides me access to Sumerki texts. Initially, Pautina teaches me her language. The sounds are harsher than that of the Ukhuni tongue. I can note when she regards me with approval.

"Good work, dorogoy," my unusual instructor will say when pleased.

Otherwise, I am lightly smacked on the head while being called 'sobaka.' Between darling and dog, I'll take the former. Though, the word does make me question our relationship as the days pass. Let's suggest that instructors are not supposed to regard their students with 'those' kind of eyes.
