MAX POV
The phone buzzed on the nightstand, waking me up. I glanced at the clock—2 a.m. I reached over and answered the call. My informant's voice came through, tense.
"Jeremy's gone, Max. He got a call from someone in Comoros, and he bolted. I found him. We're on the way to Salt Lake City now."
I sighed in relief. "Good. That is the right call. I'll be waiting."
As soon as I disconnected the call, Milan stirred beside me, her voice sleepy but curious. "Was it Gregory who hid Jeremy?"
I shook my head. "No, it was Laurene. She sent him to Park City."
Milan frowned, her voice sharper now. "You know her sisters involved with the Calabria Mafia, right? They're knee-deep in money laundering."
Her words hung in the air as I processed them, wondering just how deep Laurene's ties went.
Creation is hard, cheer me up!
