"Hey, wake up! Hey, brat, wake up or we'll leave you here!" Brandon called out, shaking the unconscious boy.
"Boss, can I slap him?" Lilia asked, her mischievous grin showing.
"Yeah, just don't go overboard, Lilia."
"Okay!" The petite red-haired girl, dressed in robes, raised her hand and smacked the boy's face. Smack! The sound echoed through the dark dungeon.
But the boy remained unconscious.
"Boss! Boss!" Ren, the black-haired teen in leather armor, called urgently.
"What is it, Ren?" Brandon asked, his eyes narrowing as he prepared for trouble.
"The monsters are spawning," Ren said, his sword already drawn. Hellhounds, glowing with malevolent red eyes, crept from the shadows.
"Tch." Brandon spat, readying his spear. "Doug, pick the boy up and make sure Lilia isn't interrupted while she prepares her spell."
"Got it, boss." Doug, the ginger-haired, bulky man in iron armor, slung the unconscious boy over his shoulder and positioned himself near Lilia. He stood guard, determined to keep her safe.
"Lilia, get your spell ready! Ren, you're with me," Brandon ordered, charging forward.
Brandon and Ren met the pack head-on. Brandon's spear drove through the skull of the first hellhound. Another one lunged at him, aiming for his throat, but Ren sliced it in half mid-air. "Got you, boss."
Brandon grunted in acknowledgment, skewering another beast. "Doug, how many of them?"
Doug scanned the monsters. "About thirty, boss."
"Keep them away from Lilia!" Brandon commanded.
Behind them, Lilia began her chant, focusing her energy. Her voice was low at first, but it gradually grew louder, resonating through the dungeon. "Spirits of the deep, heed my call..."
As the battle raged, Brandon and Ren could hear bits and pieces of her chant. "...gather and form the tides..."
Brandon thrust his spear through another hellhound. "Hold on, Lilia's almost ready!"
Ren sliced down two more hellhounds, breathing heavily. "There's too many of them, boss!"
Just then, two hellhounds broke off from the main group and charged straight at Lilia, who was still chanting. Doug intercepted them, his massive axe swinging through the air with a brutal strike, cleaving one of the beasts in half. The second hellhound leapt at Lilia, aiming to stop her chant, but Doug's foot slammed it into the ground.
"Not on my watch," Doug growled, keeping his eyes on any other potential threats.
Lilia's chant grew louder and more powerful. "Raging waters, crash upon the unworthy... Drown the darkness with your unrelenting force..."
Ren parried another attack from the side, barely managing to fend off the hellhounds. "Boss, we can't keep this up!"
Brandon thrust his spear into a hellhound's chest and shouted, "Lilia! How long?!"
Her voice was now booming through the dungeon as her magic reached its peak. "Flood the land and sweep away all that stands before me... Aqua Tempest!"
A torrent of water erupted from Lilia's staff, swirling like a raging vortex. The powerful spell crashed into the pack of hellhounds, smashing them to the ground. The beasts howled as the water ripped through them, destroying the remaining monsters in its path.
The dungeon fell silent, save for the sound of water dripping from the walls.
Brandon wiped sweat from his brow. "Geez, that almost got us."
"Well, it was a level three spell," Lilia replied, smirking with pride.
"Anyone injured?" Brandon asked, looking around.
"No one's hurt, boss," Doug said, adjusting the boy on his shoulder.
"Hey, boss, did I do a good job?" Lilia asked, smiling as she looked up at him.
Brandon patted her head. "Yeah, good job."
"Loot the hell hounds, after that let's get out of here." Brandon ordered to his party.
--
As they neared the dungeon entrance, Ren glanced at Doug. "You good, Doug? What about the boy?"
"I'm fine, and the boy's still out cold," Doug replied.
"To sleep through all that? I'm jealous," Ren said, shaking his head in disbelief.
Doug chuckled. "You're always jealous, Ren. You're even jealous of Lilia."
"I'm not jealous of that idiot!" Ren protested. "I'm better at close-range combat than her."
"Oh, really? You wanna challenge me, emo boy?" Lilia teased.
"Yeah, I do, idiot!" Ren fired back.
"Bring it on, emo boy!" Lilia laughed as the two began bickering.
"Quiet, you two," Brandon growled as they approached the entrance.
A guard stood at the dungeon's exit, arms crossed, watching the group approach.
"I.D., please," the guard said.
Brandon handed over their IDs. "Brandon Clover, Douglass Judy, Ren Blanc, and Lilia Waters. Tsukimichi Guild."
The guard looked over the IDs, his eyes narrowing when he saw the boy over Doug's shoulder. "Who's the kid?"
"We don't know," Brandon replied. "Found him unconscious in the Inside. No ID, no weapons, no registry records."
The guard furrowed his brow. "That's odd... All right, bring him to the hospital. I'll notify the association. He might be trouble."
Brandon nodded. "Will do."
The guard gave the boy another glance. "Be careful with him. No records mean he could be dangerous."
Brandon exchanged a look with Doug. "Doug, take Ren and Lilia to the guild. I'll bring the boy to the hospital."
Doug handed the boy over to Brandon. "Got it, boss."
---
I sat in the hospital room, watching the boy's unconscious form on the bed. Who is this kid? No ID, no records... Could he be a villain? I thought, trying to piece things together. Guess I'll just have to ask him when he wakes up... if he wakes up.
Suddenly, the boy stirred. "Wa... water..." he muttered, his eyes barely opening.
I blinked in surprise. "Hey, you're awake. Hold on."
He handed the boy a cup of water, and the boy drank it in large gulps, clearly parched.
"Where... am I?" the boy asked, his voice hoarse.
"You're in a hospital," I said. "My party found you in the Bright Dungeon."
"DUNGEON!?" the boy shouted, sitting up abruptly. "What are you talking about? There are no dungeons!"
My eyes narrowed. "No ID, no weapon, no hero registry. Are you a villain?"
"What? No! I'm just a regular person! And what is this hero registry or dungeons? That stuff doesn't exist!" the boy retorted, sounding completely confused.
I sighed, realizing the boy was either a good actor or genuinely clueless. "Fine. At least tell me your name."
The boy scowled. "Don't you know it's rude to ask someone's name without introducing yourself first?"
"Tch, I'm Brandon Clover. There. Happy?"
"Much better," the boy replied. "My name is I—"
Hello once again! Thank you for reading. Feel free to comment; I'll try to respond.
So, fun fact: Tsukimichi means "moonlit road" or "path of the moon." So in essence, their guild name means "the path illuminated by the moon,"
