Cornelius and Valaine's unpleasantries had taken an unexpected turn. He was taking too much pleasure in teasing her sister, and she had given him a taste of his medicine. Perhaps Elvira should have intervened instead of enjoying as an audience. If she had done that, the fight wouldn't have escalated. The dream of one big happy wizard-witch family was too far-fetched. 

"Cornelius! What has gotten into him?!" Wivior groused and kicked the ground, creating a minor dust storm around the unpaved road. "Elvira, forgive me for my brother's behavior. I will kill him for mistreating your sister. He usually never behaves this way in formal situations."

"It's okay," Elvira spoke with a throbbing heart. "Where could he have taken her? I hope it doesn't lead to a magic dual. I want our families to get along and not hate each other's guts. Is that too much to ask?"
