Capítulo 11: 11 Useless
Ryan stood there and watched her walk away from the distance. It was pretty obvious that guy was the reason for her previous state at the beginning of the tournament.
Ryan made a plan to talk to her after the tournament. If he being honest with himself, he have no idea what he supposed to even say or do to help. Its not like he strong enough to force the guy to stop bothering her.
He could tell that guy must be at rank 2 or peak of rank1. He blocked Jessica kick to easily.
It would of been a challenge for him to even respond fast enough to block that kick.
Ryan decide to stop thinking about the incident and went off to get his arm healed. He came back 30 minutes later to see Jessica getting back on the stage.
He haven't actually watched her fight yet only seen the results of her fights. Ryan walked back to find John so they could watch her fight. He had lost his second match to a rank 1 mage. Not claiming that Ryan stronger than Jhon it just he had bad luck and had a stronger opponents. Ryan had won 3 matches before he had to face a rank 1 mage.
As they sat down Jhon said. "I saw what happened after your fight. The incident with Jessica and that guy, are u going to do something?"
Seeing the worry in Jhon eyes when he ask that last question. Ryan was about to respond but before words could leave his mouth, the match started. The loud yell "began" interrupted his response.
As soon as the match began Jessica ran fast towards her opponent. Ryan noticed just like everyone else, Jessica must be using a leg movement technique from the speed she showing.
She made it to her opponent and aim a kick to his chest. The guy put up a quick defense to block it.
He was a slower earth mage with strong defense, so he try to avoid fighting at her pace. By attempting to grab her after the kick to restrict her movement.
Before he could get a hold of her Jessica flipped backwards off of him to create space. She circle around him as fast as she could move and attack again.
She kept attacking from every possible angle she could think of but couldn't get through his defense. It was somewhat of a stale mate, with her attacking and the earth mage blocking. He couldn't fine a chance to land an attack either from how fast she is moving around.
Jessica pause her attacks and stood at the distance. Looking at her opponent she realized things need to change. She will run out of mana at this rate, if she continues to use her movement technique. But if she don't she risk getting hit with a counterattack.
Little did she know her opponent wasn't doing the best either. He was using his aura earth characteristics on himself to transfer most of the force from Jessica attack to the ground. Her kicks is nothing to take lightly.
Jessica attacks was infuse with mana and have a boost of power with her movement technique behind it too. Even if he block her hits he would still take some damage if he didn't use his aura to help reduce the force of her attack.
Jessica decided to put the remaining mana she have left in one hit to break his defense or she will definitely lose at this rate. At least that what she had thought. With more fighting experience she probably would have seen through the truth of the current situation.
Jessica used her movement technique again and attempt to get behind him to attack. Jessica was fast, but wasn't fast enough for him to not to be able to track her movement.
He block her attack questioning himself why she keep attacking the same way after knowing her attacks won't work. He couldn't help wondering if she trying to exhaust him until he run out of mana.
He really don't have much mana left. Using his aura in this way consume alot of mana, it depends on how much force he have to redirect into the ground.
After Jessica last hit was block she attacked again instead of creating space from him like normal. Jessica used the rest of her mana on her right arm and coated it in her light element to form some kind of light armor. Jessica threw the punch right at his face. The earth element mage got caught off guard she only been kicking the whole time, wasn't really expecting a punch. Bam!
Before he got a chance to prepare, he receive the hit to his face. As her punch connect the light armor shattered and the guy was sent flying back and hit the ground.
He role a couple of times across the floor and lay there without moving. Ryan was just hoping he won't get back up, he could tell Jessica put everything she had into that punch.
The exhausted look on her face was pretty obvious to show she out of mana. Sadly just as the ref was about to announce her the winner his body twitched and he struggle to his feet.
With a smile as blood drip from his face he ask. "Is that all you got".
Most people wasn't surprised, it was pretty easy to notice her light armor breaking when she had punch. That hit wasn't as strong as it could be and earth mage are known for their defense. Even without mana he can still take a hit.
Jessica didn't have enough control over her mana to use that Martial art skill. she was feeling reluctant to give up but she have no energy for any other effective attacks.
Jessica still think he have alot more mana left while she had none. So she surrender and turned around not knowing he was on his last legs too.
Ryan was about to walk over but Jhon stop him. "What are you going to do if that guy comes back."
"I don't know, I will figure something out when the time come. I'm guessing you will be staying here to be safe."
"Weelll I wanted to see the top student in our class fight, so ima just head back to our class area."
Ryan just rolled his eyes at Jhon knowing he was just to scared to come with him. As Jessica was getting off the stage Ryan had already started walking towards her.
Once she made it off the stage Ryan was there with a smile. "You fought well, you was so close to winning". She just smiled him and didn't say anything. Ryan could tell there was something still bothering her.
After a couple seconds past Ryan notice she was not looking at him anymore but pass him.
He turned around and saw the guy she had a conflict with earlier walking in there direction. Ryan asked. "Whats going on with you and that dude u tried to kick."
She had a light surprise expression not expecting Ryan to had seen that but her face returned to normal pretty fast.
She brush off his question by saying. "its no one to worry about, he just little annoying."
Ryan could tell she trying to down play it. He could count on one hand the number of times she actually got mad at someone.
She not the type to get mad easily. Before Ryan could keep pressing her to tell him more, the guy was finally close enough to interrupt there conversation.
He looked Ryan up and down with distane written on his face asking. "Who is he." speaking to Jessica.
He disregard Ryan like it was beneath him to even talk to him. Ryan frown but didn't say anything and grab Jessica hand to walk away. But he was stop by a wind wall in his path.
"I didn't tell you that you could leave".
You can't attack each other using mana unless it's being supervise but there always loopholes in everything. Ryan turned around still haven't said a word yet. The only thought in his head was trying to think of a way out of this knowing he no match for him.
The wind mage look directly into ryan brown eyes and said "I don't even sense a core in you. If I wanted to, I could have you on your knees bowing to me with a single punch.
Ryan just stood there staring back at him, not saying anything back.
Hahaha I can see the helplessness in your eyes. Are you trying to think of a way out of this, useless." The guy laugh with a mocking smile planted on his face.
Jessica got in front of Ryan pushing him behind him. "He have nothing to do with this." Jessica said with fire burning in her eyes.
The wind mage gave a fake apologetic smile. "I was just going to give him some advice. He need to learn if he don't have the power to offend someone than dont. If he was outside the academy acting like this to someone else, he paused for a second before he finished his sentence. "well let just say he would have a bad day" chuckling as he said that.
The wind mage heard his name getting called to fight. He walked away and said "don't let me see you getting to close to her. You not worth my time but I could get someone to beat you up every day of the week if I want to. keep that in mind."
As he walked towards his stage Jessica ask Ryan "are you okay"
"why wouldn't I be."
Knowing deep down he really wasn't feeling okay. Hating himself for being useless. He couldn't even think of a witty response to respond to that guy.
His mind was just blank and faild to come up with anything. He knew he couldn't do anything from the start. Not sure why he thought he could changed the situation for the better. He wouldnt even been able to put up a decent fight.
Ryan sunk more in his thoughts.( I am to weak, what did I expect to happen when I meet someone stronger than me that have ill intentions. This is not manaless school where everyone about equal in strength.)
(Did I just hope that something will solve the problem for me or my family will be there to protect me. Maybe knowing that my family is the strongest family in the city gave me false security.)
(Looking back at things, I should be a way better fighter than others. Both my parents are high level mages and always wanted me to train like Daymon did when he was younger. How did I turn out weaker than everyone. Why am I lying to myself, i know why I'm weaker than.)
"Ryan...., Ryan....., Ryan."
Ryan hear his name getting called, interrupting his chaotic thoughts.
"sorry got lost in my thoughts."
"Clearly" Jessica said with an obvious tone to her voice, as her eyes narrowing at him.
She could easily tell something was bothering Ryan. So she offered to hangout and get something to eat after school.
Ryan was about to reject but seeing the hope in her eyes he hesitated. Realizing she just trying to cheer him up and didn't want her to misunderstand anything. Like thinking im to scared to spend time with her now.
Ryan replied back with. "Sure."
