I walked into the hospital room, and the first thing I noticed was how small and frail she looked in the bed. It was a jarring contrast to the woman I'd known all my life—always cold, distant, and so focused on Matt that it seemed like there was never any room left for me. I stood there for a moment, unsure of what to say or do.

Mom looked up as I entered, her eyes tired and red from crying. There was a moment of silence before she spoke.

"Kyle... you came."

I nodded, unsure of how to respond. "Yeah, I'm here."

She looked down at her hands, which were trembling slightly. "I wasn't sure if you would really come."

"You asked for me, didn't you? Why wouldn't I come?" I asked, shifting uncomfortably. I couldn't help but feel a mix of anger and sadness, seeing her like this.

She took a deep breath, as if trying to find the right words. "I... I don't know how to say this, but... I'm sorry, Kyle. For everything."
