Capítulo 3: 1.3 This messenger's new life
Atlas was on the floor of his bedroom packing. He should've done this before, but he had too much on his plate. His flight is tomorrow morning, Atlas can't wait to be in A Country again.
Plus, he only has ten days left to take over Liu Tech. It's time to give A-Xue a chance to get rid of him. He's been keeping track of him for those past three years, and that fool thinks he's about to inherit the company.
The fact that he works there and Atlas doesn't, only further fuels those beliefs, but it's ending. He stood up and grabbed his cell phone when it rang. It was a video call. He picked up and put it on speaker.
After putting it on the table in front of him, so he can simultaneously pack, he said:
"Hey."
"Hey. You're just packing?"
"I was working late."
Shengli said:
"You're always working late, you need someone to remind you to take care of yourself."
Atlas looked up and smiled.
"That's why I have you."
Shengli asked:
"So to you, I'm only a nagging parent?"
Atlas laughed and looked down, packing.
"You're not. You're more than that."
Shengli beamed looking at him.
It's been over three years since Atlas left, but he hasn't felt it. They are closer now that they live in a different country, than when they lived in the same house.
That being said, he is happy he is finally coming back, plus he finally convinced him to stay home. He doesn't just want to talk to him, he wants to see him.
Over the years, every time he had a trip to B Country, they would have dinner together, though it took time. It's only two years after he left, they saw each other again face to face.
After the first few times, he looked forward to it every time. Atlas has this way of expressing himself and being, which differs from other youths. He's like an old soul trapped in a young body, but then sometimes he has that cute childish way of acting.
He is smart, open, and brilliant. He didn't think that he would come to care so deeply about him, but he does. With Atlas, it's different, he enjoys spending time with him and talking.
Every time he would call him, he was on his computer working on blueprints for a new device he created, but despite that, every time he would say something, he would listen and respond.
At first, he would only check on him once every two weeks, but then he became greedy. It turned into once a week, then every day at the end of the day. Even his surveillance of him isn't enough now.
He gets pictures of him every day and in the beginning, he could restrain himself from calling him, but not anymore. He had no intention of letting him stay in a hotel. It depended on him whether he had to force him or not.
Plus, now he knows Atlas and his expensive taste. To be fair, it's not like he can't afford it. He was blown away by his business mind, no wonder his father wanted him to take over Liu Tech.
When Shengli said nothing for the longest time, Atlas looked up. Shengli was just looking at him like he was the most fascinating sight.
Atlas smiled and his eyes softened.
"What is it?"
"Nothing."
Atlas raised an eyebrow.
"I'm just happy you're coming back. I missed you."
Usually, they would have dinner together at least once every month, but he hasn't seen him in four months.
Atlas went back to filling his suitcase and asked:
"How can you miss me?"
"I..."
Before Shengli finished speaking, Atlas cut him.
"We speak every day on the phone."
Shengli stared at him and asked:
"Do you wish we didn't?
Atlas looked up, meeting his eyes. He inquired:
"Is that what it looks like?"
He genuinely wants to know. Shengli answered:
"No, even when you're busy working, you're attentive and present."
"Then why would you ask me that?"
"Because I know how you are."
Atlas nodded. He doesn't blame him for asking. What surprises him, is the fact that he waited so long to do it. He never hid how apathetic and unfeeling he is to Shengli, because he's the same.
Even if he wasn't, he wouldn't have kept it from him. Although Shengli surprised him with his attitude and feelings. Shengli doesn't feel or care for anyone. The only reason he helped Jing is that he promised his father.
The only thing that makes him feel is his drive to succeed, now that his father passed away. So he was a little surprised when he saw how gripped he became with him.
He knew he surveilled him, and he received news of him every day thanks to Aurora. But Shengli still called. Every so often, he would fly to B Country just to see him and pretend he had business.
Aurora infiltrated his computer a long time ago, so he has access to everything he does. He knew that by cultivating a good relationship with him, he could have a smoother road.
But he never minded speaking on the phone with him or meeting. He likes Shengli, which is unheard of for him. He had no friends or someone he liked before he was punished.
All the other messengers worshiped the gods they worked for, and didn't seem to find any fault in them. He was the only one who saw them for whom they truly were. Knowing how he feels about the gods, the other messengers all avoided him.
And it's not like those disgusting gods thought he was good enough to be their friend. That's why he could identify with Shengli, he's the same except that now he feels for him.
He stood up, took the cell phone, and sat on the bed.
"You know how I am because you're the same."
"I am, but not with you. I like that we get along, and speak every day."
That's true, he doesn't want to go back to Atlas ignoring him. He knows how Atlas is because he was the same until he let him in. He's the exception, he thought after him, he would be more open to other people, but it's just him.
It isn't surprising, he's never met anyone like him. But what worries him is that Atlas got through his ice wall, but what if he didn't?
What if Atlas only keeps him close, so he can have his help in the future? Even if that's the case, he'll make him change his mind. He waited apprehensively for his reply.
Atlas opened his mouth and then closed it again. He did that three times. He isn't good with that kind of thing. He enjoys talking to Shengli, or he wouldn't.
Atlas looked down and said with difficulty:
"I... I appreciate how close we are."
He couldn't look at Shengli, it was too much, but after he didn't speak for a long time he peeked. Shengli had a lovely smile on his beautiful face.
He was surprised to see the timid expression on Atlas's face, and the slight blush on his cheeks. His heart turned into a puddle.
"I appreciate how close we are too."
Atlas swallowed and nodded. He quickly said:
"I have more packing to do. See you tomorrow."
Before Shengli could speak, he hang up. He put the phone down and buried his face in his hands. Ughhh. He can't believe he admitted that. To other people, it might sound like nothing, but to Atlas, it's like hiking Mount Everest.
His face was warm and he could still feel it. He never had to speak about feelings with anyone before. He didn't think it would be this nerve-wracking. He shook his head and went back to packing.
Shengli was in his office looking at the cut-off video call, stunned. He admitted it. He admitted he likes their relationship, too. All his worries are gone now. From his physical reaction, it's clear that he was honest.
He could see how difficult it was for him to say that, which makes him appreciate it even more. He smiled happily when he remembered, he records every one of their video calls.
Now he'll have his cute, blushy face forever. His smile disappeared when he heard a knock.
"Come in."
A-Xue came in with a smile.
"May I speak to you?"
"Sit."
A-Xue took a seat and said:
"Wei Shujun's office next to yours is free now, and I wondered if I could move there."
Like that, he'll be closer to Shengli, and learn more before he runs the company in ten days. He knew that once Atlas left, he wouldn't come back.
The weird thing is that he and his mother hired multiple private detectives to find out where he is, but it's like he disappeared from the surface of the planet. It only made them happy. They won't have to bother to get rid of him now.
He always knew his mother would do anything for him to be the president of Liu Tech. It's his birthright and Atlas that bastard doesn't deserve it.
He doesn't even deserve to be in their family, at least now he is dead for sure.
"It's already reserved for someone."
"Oh, okay."
A-Xue was angry, but he smiled and left. What does he mean by reserved for someone? After Shengli he has the highest status at the company now, he is the heir.
Who did he give his office to? You know what, as soon as that person comes to claim it, I'll scare him away. Everybody already worships him. They all know how better he is than them, and that it's his company.
He'll deal with the person who stole his office once he is there, and once he is the president, he'll take Shengli's office.
He still can't believe how easily Atlas made things on him. He always thought that he would fight tooth and nail for the company. Atlas always admired their father, and he knows since he could speak, he wished to follow his trail.
His father would always bring Atlas to the company and share work with him. He wanted to be part of their group, but after going with them a few times, he realized it was not for him.
He just wants to be in charge, while Atlas prefers to also be part of the creating process, like their father was.
He wasn't just the president, his father created numerous best-selling items. It bothered him before that he wasn't as creative as them, but after talking with his mother, he realized he should just command people who are. Soon everything will be his.
