It had enhanced him, sharpening his reflexes, strengthening his muscles, and granting him unnatural resilience. Yet even with these advantages, he couldn't match Kijich's overwhelming power.

The final crack in his blade gave way under Kijich's next strike, the sword shattering into shards that scattered across the arena. Jacob hurled the remnants aside and backpedaled, narrowly avoiding the knight's follow-up slash.
