Was she expected to try and somehow make the boy magically feel comfortable with her and share the most terrifying, traumatic experience of his young life? One that caused the haunted expression that he only showed briefly to her.
That didn't seem feasible to Rache, nor realistic.
What did she know about a child's trauma, anyway?
The answer to that was, unfortunately, absolutely nothing.
