Chapter 16
At the Vampire kingdom......
"My queen, we received a message that a beast suspected to be a vampire has been attacking a far away human kingdom", one of the guards who was assigned to look for the missing prince reported to the queen.
"What kingdom? Was it among the kingdoms you searched previously?",
"no, my queen, it's a far away kingdom, it is a small kingdom, it's name is Qiren",
"Qiren?", she asked. The queen had never heard of such a kingdom before, could her son be there? Although she wanted to rush down there and check for herself if her son was there, she forced herself to calm down.
"I want you to make an enquiry and check if there has been any new person who moved to the town newly",
"yes my queen", the commander bowed and left the throne room.
"I hope you are the one, my son. I am really worried about you". The queen said. Calix clenched his fists tightly as he heard her words. He had never understood why his mother showed that brat so much love and care. He wasn't even her biological son. Ever since she adopted him, it had been this way. His father was the only one who had loved him, until he had died. Vampires had a long life span, he hadn't expected his father to die so soon, yet he had been killed. Killed by a demon. He swore to himself that someday he would have his revenge.
The queen noticed that he was lost in his thoughts. "are you okay Calix?",
"I am fine, mother. Very fine".
Qiren Kingdom......…
Fife groaned and stretched as they walked out of the library. "I am so exhausted, reading is so tiring", he complained.
"but you didn't read anything Fife, I was the one who did all the reading". Theodore reminded him.
"well watching you read was tiring", Theodore laughed at his statement.
"so where are you going to now? Home, I presume". Fife asked.
"no, I am going to Alistair's place",
"do you need me to escort you there?".
"you do realize that I am not helpless right?", Theodore frowned at him.
"I know, but I promised your parents that I would take care of you",
"I will be fine, Alistair's place isn't that far. I am capable of going there alone".
"I know, don't get angry okay? I was just looking out for you",
"I am not angry with you", Theodore replied.
"if you aren't angry with me, give me a smile", Fife told him, giving him pleading eyes.
Theodore couldn't help it, his face broke into a smile. Fife smiled as well. Their horses was brought by the guards. They got on their horses, Fife waved goodbye as he went on his way. Theodore waved goodbye as well as he made his way to Alistair's house.
On his way to Alistair's place, he was stopped by several people who wanted to exchange pleasantries with him. In the past, none of this happened, people usually treated him like he was invisible. All of these changes overwhelmed him.
He got to Alistair's place, a servant helped him get down from his horse. He enquired of Alistair and a servant offered to lead him to where he was.
The servant led the way while Theodore followed. They stopped in front of a wooden shed. "lord Alistair is in there", the servant told him. "thanks", he replied. The servant bowed and left.
Theodore pushed the door open and walked inside. He was stunned at the sight that greeted him. Alistair was shirtless, his chest bare with sweat glistening on it.
Alistair was chopping wood when he noticed Theodore come on, he was surprised to see him because he wasn't expecting to see him today.
He watched as Theodore's eyes devoured his body. Alistair was certain that Theodore was a little bit attracted to him. He wanted to be sure that Theodore actually wanted him before he made a move. This was why although he wanted to kiss Theodore senselessly, he controlled himself as he didn't want to do anything that would scare Theodore away.
"Theo… what a surprise, I didn't know you were coming".
Theodore snapped out of his daze when he heard Alistair's voice. "I just finished at the palace and I didn't want to go home yet so I decided to come over. I hope you don't mind", he explained to Alistair.
"I don't, I have told you we are friends, haven't I? You are always welcome here, even if I am not home, the servants won't turn you away".
Theodore smiled at his words, "so why are you chopping wood, shouldn't that be the work of the servants?".
"I enjoy doing it, it's a form of exercise for me, how was your first day of work?".
"quite exciting, did you hear that the beast attacked someone last night?".
Alistair cleaned his hands and led Theodore to a bench so they could sit down. "I think I heard my servants talking about it".
"the victim almost died, it was quite scary".
"that's shocking, none of it's victims have died before, what do you think happened?".
Theodore thought for a moment, "I don't think the beast meant to kill him. It might have been a mistake. I just wonder how the farmer ended up at the doctor's house",
"nobody saw who brought him?", Alistair asked.
"not at all. And I highly doubt that he walked there by himself".
"has he woken up yet?",
"no, the doctor said he lost a lot of blood. It might take some time for him to recover. This only strengthens my suspicion that it is a vampire".
Alistair ruffled his hair, "you are so smart", Theodore looked up at him, "do you really think so?",
"i do".
Their faces were so close, their breaths fanning each other. Alistair's eyes flickered down to Theodore's lips.
Theodore unconsciously licked his lips. Alistair groaned and bent his face down, closing the distance between their lips.
