Capítulo 2: The miracle baby

"What are you talking about Connor? Don't tell me you have lost your mind in the past few years without me. Wait, can vampires now get intoxicated? What else has changed about us in the past two decades? And also give me one reason why I shouldn't strangle you right now?" Garrick asked and folded his arms with a frown on his face.

"I am not joking around, Garrick. You have a daughter and she needs you!!" Connor stated adamantly.

"Well, explain how the hell I have a child because the last time I checked, I am yet to find a mate. What are you talking about, mate?" the aged vampire lord asked with confusion written all over his face.

"You have a daughter with Claire!!" Connor announced.

Garrick froze the moment he heard that and then he burst into laughter. "Hahaha… now I am sure you have gone mad, if you think I will let you go scot-free after disturbing my sleep by pretending to be mad, then you are wrong. I am still going to wipe your ass with the strength I have left. I have a child with my human girlfriend? What does this look like to you? A comedy center?" he yelled

"Just listen to me, Garrick. You have a daughter named Clarisse, she is twenty years old and by calculations, you would realize that Claire was a few months pregnant before you left. I found out just a few weeks later but I didn't want to disturb you so I let you rest," Connor explained.

Garrick could now see that his friend meant every word he said, but how was that even possible? Something like that has never been heard of since their race was found thousands of years ago.

"If you are not joking, then please explain how it is possible for a vampire to bear a child with a human? You know that is rubbish, it has never happened and can never happen. it has been proved both by the science of humans and our own very nature that a human cannot reproduce with a vampire!!" he yelled, now feeling frustrated.

"I know, okay? I was also shocked and I swore by my life that it was a mistake. I told Claire that the child wasn't yours and we had a fight over it. But when that child was born, I saw for my very own eyes, she is yours, Garrick. Believe me, that baby belongs to you. I can't really explain how it happened, all I can say is that it is a miracle, she is a miracle baby!!" Connor stated.

Garrick could read the lips of his old friend, his body movement signified that he was telling the truth but the ancient vampire just didn't want to believe such a statement. The vampires were a modified race of humans and their kind has tried countless years to find ways to reproduce with humans in order to keep their race alive but everything has failed; it just wasn't possible for a vampire to conceive for a human or a human female to conceive for a vampire.

The entire news left him dumbfounded and he paced around the cave. Then he turned around to face Connor. "I need to see for myself," he stated, the doubt obvious in his eyes.

"Of course, you don't just need to see but you have to resume the role of a father immediately because she belongs to you. But before that, you need to look like a human, I can see your bones through your skin," Connor indirectly mocked him and smiled widely.

Garrick frowned and stared hard at him. "I can still put you to sleep with these bones, how would you like that, mate?" he asked with a smirk.

The smile on Connor's face disappeared immediately he heard that and he swallowed hard. Even at full strength, he wouldn't be able to beat the just awoken Garrick; it would take five of him to pin down the ancient vampire lord.

"Okay, let's tone the violence down a bit, and I have missed you pal," Connor said with a grin and headed for the exit of the scary cave.

Garrick smiled. "I will miss you more when all this turns out to be a joke and I snap your neck and toss you into a well for an eternity," he replied and grabbed Connor's shoulder as he walked alongside him.

Connor groaned in pain as Garrick teasingly squeezed his shoulders, the vampire lord had a very firm grip, especially now that there was little flesh visible on his skin.

The smashing sounds of bones could be heard as Garrick stepped on a skull that was laying there on the floor, probably belonging to people that were there before him.

They two vampires walked out of the cave to the sunlight and Garrick inhaled deeply. "Fresh air, I have missed those," he said and smiled in satisfaction.

Just then they heard a scuffle and his eyes darted towards the tree where Connor had dropped the deer. It seemed like another predator got to the meal first. A jaguar was feeding off the deer.

"Jaguars in England? We didn't just go back in time, did we?" Connor asked with a look of surprise on his face.

He was replied by the sound of sizzling wind as Garrick sped off and jumped on the wild cat. Before he could even say a word, the nearly three thousand years old vampire had pinned down the animal and dug his fangs into it.

"Oh, well that works too," Connor said and smiled. He had almost forgotten how good Garrick was at hunting. He has had enough time to learn everything, unlike Connor who enjoyed his boring life in the dark.

Connor watches Garrick feed hungrily on the beast and he feels a craving for animal blood. He had not had any of that lately; he was always feeding on human blood bought off the blood bank owned by another famous vampire in the city.

Well, famous as a vampire only to his fellow vampires. Even though they had been in existence for thousands of years, the vampire race had done a good job at keeping their secret of their existence away from the humans. It was closely protected in a small circle and only people that mattered knew about it in the human world.

The mystery of the vampires still remain tales and myths to be told as bedtime stories, but they exist, they are everywhere, lurking around in the dark and making naïve humans believe that they are nothing but folktales.

But now the secret will get more difficult to protect, because a miracle baby has been born to both races. A half vampire and half human child, something that defies their very existence, how long can the secret remain a secret? This miracle baby changes everything, and nothing will remain the same.

Garrick stood up with blood trailing down both sides of his lips, he wiped it off while grinning from ear to ear. "Damn, I didn't know Jaguar blood tasted this good. If there is one of them, I am certain there will be more. Jaguars don't just walk into other territories randomly," he said.

"Yeah, I see you enjoyed your meal, forget the mystery of the stray Jaguar and let's get back to what is at hand. Your child needs you and every second we waste brings us closer to the inevitable," Connor whined.

"Chill man, I am only following you to confirm that the baby isn't mine. After that, I will go back to sleep, so let me have my fill," Garrick said and chuckled.

Connor sighed and hit his palm on his face. "You are an old man but you still act like a baby." He uttered plainly.

Garrick furrowed his eyebrows like a kid throwing tantrums. "Huh? I should be around thirty-five in human age and I still make the ladies drool, so give me a break," he said and Connor couldn't help but laugh. Garrick was indeed a character.

Garrick wiped the blood off his face with the back of his palm as he walked to Connor Deckard. His skin was suddenly glowing again, it was no longer pale and dry and he looked healthier than ever. All it took was a sip of Jaguar blood and he was as fresh as a pumpkin leaf.
