Eleonore’s POV

I stayed in Hayden’s arms for a while until I could feel the tears falling from my eyes dry up on my cheeks. The top of his shirt had been soaked by now, and maybe I would have felt guilty for it, but I couldn’t be bothered to care about something like that.

I felt his large hand rub circles over my back in soothing motions, and I tried to focus on that instead of the images that flashed through my head.

But I couldn’t.

I couldn’t forget the vicious, swirling images of the creature that had entered my mind. I felt my body shudder as I remembered how the creature had clawed at me, its chilling presence, and… most of all, that voice in my head.

That wretched, evil voice echoed and clamored in my head for what felt like days. I tried to get his voice out of my head, but I doubted it would. I let out a shaky breath and felt his arm wrapped tighter around me.
