Clare’s POV

I hadn’t thought of how dangerous this could be.

I nearly lost my mind; I nearly caved and begged him to mark me, right on the dais in the training ground, in front of everyone.

I watched as he got off the dais and made his way toward the gates. I had made a terrible mistake. I had underestimated the influence of the mate bond. But if I acknowledged the truth of everything, then I would have to admit that I have always been controlled by it. Every action of mine has been dictated by the bond, and there was just no way for me to resist it anyway.

I watched as he left the training grounds entirely, special pass and all be d*mned. I felt an intense sense of relief wash over me; I was almost overwhelmed by it. And more than just the relief, I felt like my mind was no longer clouded.

Like I could think clearly again when he was out of my presence.
