Capítulo 91: Beginning of Chapter 29

Rue

One breath and she was gone, a whirlwind of light and motion, a sizzling shooting star. The door was wrenched open, and then she was meteoric. Rue conquered space, flew across time, and travelled with the scorching weight of an unknown future that must be hell.

"CATCH HER!" Someone shrieked, and she could almost feel the heat of their breaths hot against the nape of her neck, the jelly of her limbs growing with each step. The lick of flames as she propelled towards salvation. She could hear them caught at the door, swarming at the arch, far too many bodies trying to squeeze through a smaller space. The desperation burned.

And so did the ballooning smell of an Alpha's aura, an Alpha's call for an Omega to listen.

But it did not matter if Rue had a head start, did not matter that she was far ahead. Outrunning them should be impossible, would be incredible. And despite her overtaxed muscles and gasping lungs, escaping was merely a dream.

Seirios was a pack of seven. The sons of emperors, no, they were the emperors. The seven had long taken position, were months away from the crown, and a coronation ceremony as a united pack was all that stood in their way. They were aliens with godlike abilities that made them rulers of their species. The strongest in the universe, and the only ones that could end the monster hives that ravaged the planets like a virus.

They were Gods—revered, worshipped and loved.

But there would always be a price to pay for excessive power, an insanity that was said to turn them into explosive hungry beings. A sacrifice that the normal folk would provide to soothe these Gods. Seirios had blood on their hands — the blood of their enemies, their guides, and hundreds of Alphas, Betas and Omegas.

Rue was only their next conquest, their next victim.

A burst and the helios was before her, sparkling into existence with an outstretched hand. Kieran radiated and shone like colliding stars, like a nebula of cosmic dust. The emperor of planet seven—he was in control of all light, the sparks that bounced and reflected, the glow from a source. One spark had been all he needed to wipe out a fleet. A shatter and he could rip apart all that touched his radiance. Kieran could reach her where light kissed her skin, could manifest in her eyes if he so wished, exploding her from the inside out.

But it seemed that catching someone had never been a task, for he stumbled, shattering in the puddles of light meters away. He was reappearing in the viridian glow of the exit sign before her and then the bulbs behind her. It was as if he were hesitant, as if he were afraid that he would hurt her. And so, she veered, each stride a growing advantage.

Her shadows rippled, puddles of darkness growing with each spark. And hands snatched at her ankles, twisting from the depths were the eyes of the hades. Levi, the emperor of planet two. The shadows were his to manipulate. And he could drag enemies into the endless depths of nothingness, could swallow mountains and seas. He'd pulled millions into his void, the very same void laced with fire from his hephaestus blood, and he could take her into his fiery inferno too.

How had she not known they were Seirios? It should be easy to see the power that radiated from them, the flash of it punctuating their every move. Curse her background, curse her goddamn history. It was her life in 69 that held her back, and now it was her lack of knowledge that would take her down.

"You don't have to run," Levi sighed, voice whispering in her ear, catching in the darkness of the curls on her head. It teased at the lobe and fluttered down her skin, arousing goose flesh and pleasure. "There's nowhere to hide, darling. We can talk."

Panic caught in her throat and quickened her pulse. "Fuck you." His laughter echoed and bounced across the shadows. And she skidded to an angry stop, hands slamming against the elevator, naked feet burning against the ground with each dodging stomp. The doors snapped open—advanced technology, a meticulous creation, oddly sturdy for the violence she'd sank into its casing.

And she turned, turned a mere second to look, to see what lay in store for her, the figures that peppered her path. But it was not fear that touched their cheeks, burned in their faces and their eyes. Instead, it was a gentleness, a sweetness, a yearning that consumed their eyes. It was the lack of concern that troubled her so greatly that it had her terror transforming into rage. The five others had chosen to remain behind, standing at the door waiting as if Levi and Kieran were all that they needed to deploy.

They believed her to be already captured.

"Where Kieran exists, there will always be shadows," Levi's voice swept in the air, and she froze at his warmth, at the burn of his embers dancing in the air. She didn't have to look to know that he stood behind her in the elevator, waiting, smouldering. "And where I exist, there will always be light. Omega, you did not have to run and hurt your poor feet." He clucked his tongue, a disgusting coo in his throat. "Now I'll have to lick them clean." His hand found her, settling around her waist as if he owned her. And the ground bubbled and boiled into a liquid that caught her legs, sinking her deeper, taking her away from salvation.

"Levi," she hissed, just as his fingers swept to cover her eyes, warm, careful, gentle. Her Omega liked that, liked that the Alpha held her to him, heedful of her scraped feet, gentle with his touch, liked that he smelled deliciously like home. Another breath and she was yanking him off her, stumbling into a void of his making.

The darkness was incredible, sweeping wide and far, an endless primordial emptiness that stretched like a galaxy devoid of stars. It had her breath laboured; her shock settling into a buzzing of panic that frothed in her throat. She exhaled on her knees; tears tacked to her eyes. She was fucked. There was no escaping the shadows.

And in its depths were the reasons for all her suffering, the emperors of the world. They stepped forward, veiled gently by the darkness as if they were home.

Halcyon was the emperor of planet four. He'd torn through his siblings to get to the top, had fought rightfully for his position in a public tournament that ended with his family's near death. His body had been completely soaked in blood. She'd heard that the artemis had turned ares, and now there was no beast he did not have in his arsenal of transformations. No form he could not take, even those that were deemed fantastical. Halcyon was ranked number 2 because even transforming into another greater species, like a zeus, could be a possibility.

Likewise, Altair with his feathers, his poison, and his transformation was just as deadly. The emperor of planet six was a shapeshifter dripping in the most potent of aphrodisiacs. He'd crippled millions for his gain, had turned them into begging slaves needy for his approval, for just a taste of his love, his smile, his sweetness. Like Pied Piper, like a cult leader, he was an emperor of delusive enticement.

Then his lover, his fucking stepbrother, Valentino, the emperor of five, was said to be a violent whirlwind of pain, a master of suffering. His rage sliced into his enemies, tore into their flesh, and decapitated millions. In his presence, his people trembled. Each prick was a growing suggestion, each insertion of his phantom limbs hypnotism for his people to please, to obey. And they would, desperate for his approval, desperate to approach him pain-free. It was said to be the ultimate form of acknowledgement to see Valentino and experience not one ounce of suffering.

And here they were standing before her acting like puppies, feigning their submission.
