Capítulo 31: Beginning of Chapter 11

Rue

There was smooth silence in the dormitory when she awoke—a strange peace that settled along with memories that were almost like a dream. And she'd blinked sleep sticky eyes, tasting the remains of mint still itchy in her nose. Then settled upon bed so hard it crinkled under her frame. The torn remains of her old rug crusting with rusting pennies of dried blood. She shot awake, breath escaping her in quick pants. Her hands tugging at sleeves.

Bare skin was revealed, smooth and unwounded. She held her arms to the light, squinted and thumbed at what was once flayed bloodied skin. But all that remained was the glitter of something, a trace of embedded pearls upon stretched healed skin. A shine that caught the light—a scar that was feather-like around her wrist. The shards of it, when she squinted hard enough, was a soft pink and teal.

The traces of Altair, the traces of Valentino.

She winced; her mind was full of dreams.

Levi, standing in the shadows, a smirk on his lips, tongue to the corner of his mouth. Eyes rubescent like the burn of dying coal, white teeth catching the glow of the moon, incisors aglow. His voice was a growl that shivered up her spine, tingling between her legs.

"Rue."

He kindled a roaring heat, a saturation of want, and a thundering of her heart. And he stayed, must have sat at the corner of her bed in her shadow, sniffing and tasting for far too long. Her truth? He could find so easily, and she provided him that opportunity with open, sleepy arms.

"Rue," he'd whispered against her skin, so soft it made her shiver.

She'd been strangely drowsy. Her body had been warm, full, and weak. It must have been something in the fucking stew, something in her blood, perhaps even something in the air. The existence of Levi and his flames, his aura.

His nose had been on her pulse, gently sweeping, inhaling, tasting, searching. And yet her body had stayed docile, her conscious unembodied. His lips had suckled at the scars, of what was long left of her wounds. His tongue washing and laving until she was sticky with his saliva.

And then all that was left were kisses. His lips, warm against her skin, gentle up her arm. The bandages had fallen to the ground, her skin cold. He tasted the inner corner of her wrist, his chest rumbled in an almost purr. The warmth of his breath was too hot—it burned.

"Go away," she'd hissed, arms weakly thudding against his chest. In her moments of lucidity, she found his presence confusing. The stringy bits of what remained of her blanket hitched up to her chest. "Leave me alone. It's been hours you fucking lunatic." Her voice oozed, cracked and rough with sleep. "What time is it?"

And the hades had merely laughed, a low chuckle that spilled from his throat like honey. He'd been cross-legged on the floor, head propped against her bed as if content, as if he never wanted to leave. And her other hand had thumped in his hair, soft curls silky against her palm. He seemed to almost relax when her fingers carded through the tresses, unable to resist the texture.

"It's so quiet with you," he'd been muttering under his breath, head pressed against her bed. "So, peaceful."

He'd blinked, slow and cat-like in the dark. His veins glittering with lava, fire flowing up pale flesh. His eyes locked with hers, his face so close she tasted the sweetness of his breath, or at least the phantom ghost of its existence from the blockers in her nose. Something tapped at her hip, a rhythm of fives.

"You play a dangerous game." He'd exhaled, his eyes forming charming slits, an almost adorable smile that stretched devilish into a sexy smirk. The warmth enveloped her, and cocooned she dozed. "Little, baby Alpha." The shadows were dancing as her eyes grew heavier, her breathing evened out. Sleep swept her into his arms.

That was all she had from her memories. And her mind now seemed confused, unable to separate dream for reality. His warmth around her had appeared to be a hallucination. But was it really? She swallowed; mouth dry.

Her nose bumped against her forearm, her mind whispering of Levi's tongue—pink and erotic as it swept over the wound. She had been whimpering, soft little mewls that escaped her throat naturally from the pain. And his gaze had grown darker, eyes lidded, the embers roaring. A gentle kiss was what he'd given her, delicate upon healed skin. Her own lips drew closer to her skin, her Omega keened. Something dripped down her thighs, warm and wet.

Shit.

Rue hissed, holding herself. The technology buzzing as she swept her body with another decent layer of scent blockers. A wad of semen smeared over her throat. How much could he taste? How much had he tasted? This had Rue scowling, tugging her clothes, pulling on a long sleeve, the edges were frayed, tattered seams of a thousand holes.

Fuck.

She almost snarled.

Stupid Valentino and Altair. Stupid fucking Alphas.

The remains of the fabric were torn, sleeves ripped, toiletries in her bag. She stepped out into the room. There was noise in the bathrooms. Noise in the kitchen, soft laughter down the hallway, voices in the rooms. But she was flying out of the dormitory before she could look.

In her peripheral Seraphim's back stood facing her frame. Her feet struggled with her shoes, slipped clumsy and loud. She knew he was turning to look, a twist in his muscles. There was a tug in her chest for her to slow, for her to greet him. But the door closed before he could turn. The icy winds of the day kissed her cheeks, she sighed.

Her belly rumbled.

*

Class was uneventful with Altair and Valentino missing.

With the top dogs gone, the tension that palpated the air now dissipated into dull random stochasticity. And the eyes that had once swept her frame quickly grew bored with the scent of poseidon no longer clouding her body.

She'd taken her first shower at the public pool with the scent of Omegas, Betas and Alphas still musky and lingering in the restrooms. The traces of people remained in the tufts of hair sticking to the walls, the grimy leftovers of their existence wet and sticky in the drain. But it had been glorious hot water, scalding down her back, the suds soapy on her flesh and the grime flowing off her skin.

Levi's saliva gone from her limbs. Seraphim's stench no longer on her palms.

Her hair, now oil-free and silky, had boosted her disposition. She'd entered class with a bounce in her step, pink from all the scrubbing. Then greeted Theo with a blinding, minty smile, one so happy he'd seemed almost surprised by her change in mood. And her happiness had only grown with the absence of the two Alphas that were the bane of her existence.

Her squint had grown pinched. Could she press charges? Sue them somehow? Rue smacked her lips; she should have taken pictures of her wounds. In between breaks, she'd turned to Theo with a scowl, her stylus tapping against her books.

"Do you think I could sue the espers?"

"Sue?" he'd blinked his single eye, turned to her carefully.

"Sue. Prosecute. Charge. Summon to court. Impeach them for the 'paper cut'," she'd gestured in the air with a groan. "Valentino and Altair are fucking nasty. I should have thought of this yesterday. Get the police down here to protect my ass. I mean bullying's what the school could deal with. But I was kidnapped against my will, assaulting me in a time stop. Surely, that's a worthy cause for jail time. What do you think? A year? Two?"
