Winni-Rose
I woke to shouting from outside my bedroom door, it was my mum. She swung the door open, making it bounce off my wall, making it rattle, but my mum seemed not to care, she had her eyes set on me, still shouting. “Happy birthday baby!” She shouted, she moved towards my window to open them. A bright light filled my room, blinding me. I had to quickly close my eyes, then the next thing I felt this heaviness almost crushing me on impacted. “I can’t believe my baby is sixteen today” She said, I could hear she was holding back tears, I opened my eyes and looked into my mothers. She had similar eyes colour to mine, but hers was more of a deeper blue. Almost an ocean blue. We sat there looking at each other for a few seconds before my mum, hugged me, so tightly that I could hardly breathe. I had to tap her to make her pull off me. I took a deep breathe, mum just rolled her eyes, “Dramatic as always my dear” She giggled a little.
“Now do get up and get ready, meet me down stairs, your Granny has made you a special breakfast” She said and then exited my room, shutting the door behind her. I threw my blanket off me and walked towards my bathroom door. I tie my hair up into a messy bun and get into the shower. Once I’ve finished, I hope out and wrap an army green towel around me and head out my bathroom towards my wardrobe. I open the door and look for something to wear, then I notice a lilac flowery dress and white high-tops to go with it. After getting dress I return to my bathroom, to brush my hair and put on some light makeup. I decide to leave my strawberry blonde hair down in it wavy locks. Afterwards, I head downstairs to the living room to find my twin siblings watching tv, “Happy birthday sis” Gabrielle and Zack both said in unison, without taking their eyes off the tv. I just smiled and headed towards the kitchen, where a delicious smell was coming from. When I entered the kitchen, I saw granny sitting at the bench drink some tea, mum was making herself some coffee, and on the bench laid pancakes, eggs, bacon, and freshly squeezed orange juice.
I waddled over towards the bench, but before I could get to it, my Granny stopped me. “Good morning birthday girl, I have something special for you my dear” She said, overly cheerfully, handing me a beautiful, wrapped gift. I opened it to find small delegate box, it was a beautiful velvet red with gold engravings. ‘WY’, for Winni-Rose York. I opened the small box to find a gold and silver moon. “It’s beautiful Granny” I said, she grabbed the necklace and indicated for me to lift my hair up so she can put it around my neck. “Perfect” She said with happiness written all over her face. “Now go eat my dear” She said pushing me towards the food, I didn’t need to be told twice. I ate until my belly was completely full. Once I was finished, my Granny and mum, indicated for me to sit down at the table, so I did as told. They two sat down with me. I waited until someone said something, and then my Granny cleared her throat indicating that she was about to speak. “Now my dear, today is a very important day for you, as you know that when you turn sixteen you will be gifted with your special powers” She said, I nodded with understanding, then my mum, started to continue the conversation. “Tonight, all our family will be gathering together for you to receive them, there will be a dress laid out for you to wear” She finished off. I nodded in agreement with what they had to say, but before I could leave, my Granny cleared her throat one more time. “You are not to tell the twins, as they will have their time to find out, until then, they will only know that we have a family birthday party, okay?” She said. I nodded and they allowed me to leave the table. I headed back to my room, until the ritual had too happened.
