Capítulo 9: Upgrades people, upgrades

Pain.

That was the current thing I was feeling, and I hate pain. Sure it was not as bad as having poison flow through my veins, but I never improved my body.

And now, I was on my bed, watching the news. Currently, it was talking about the massacre I did last night, and to be honest, they were exaggerating it quiet a bit.

"As you can see, another cyber psycho attack has happened here in Heywood, not a single person was left alive, people of night city please, stay indoors and keep your loved ones safe." I just clicked my tongue in annoyance.

I could already tell that the reporter didn't even care as well, her body language showed annoyance, her eyes looked annoyed, and her emotions were fake.

It looked as if she was walking around with nothing but her bra and panties in broad daylight.

I decided to shut the tv off, since nothing interesting was going to happen anytime soon.

As I did turn it off, I yawned and was about to struggle on getting up. But I soon received a call from padre himself, since he was calling right now, I already knew why he called me.

"Ah, Cobra, how wonderful it is to hear from you." I had to admit, hearing his voice was odd, since he had a way to sooth the person he was talking to.

"Padre, judging by the call, I can assume you saw the news." He smiled and nodded his head.

"Of course, seeing the sinners corpses brings me joy, knowing they will be in hell, paying for the sins they have caused." He soon changed from happy, to looking saddened.

"I can only hope the innocents are at peace, knowing their murderers are now killed." He then raised his hand and did the cross on his chest.

"It's the least I could do, even if it's just a small bit." I replied and smiled at his words, who knew this city still had kind hearted people.

"I thank you cobra, I shall be sending the money soon, and may god guide you down the right path." He then hung up, and I soon saw a transfer of money being added to my account.

Seeing the money, I was now stuck on what to do. I had half a million eddies in my account, and I didn't know what to do.

I could maybe go to a ripper and gain some implants, enhance my body if I wanted to survive in this helish city.

But I didn't know what type of implants to get, nor do I know what kind of implants there are. I would be walking into the deep end with no experience on anything.

Yet, the thought of enhancing myself was exciting. I then shook my head and slapped myself, clearing my mind from the thought.

"Calm yourself dumbass, don't go running into things without making a plan." I told myself, I covered my face and loved them back.

Pushing my hair back, I took a deep breath and calmed myself. I didn't want to experience the adrenaline, since it could cause some problems for me.

So, I decided to call Rouge for help in for this kind of situation. A few rings later, she picked up and was more relaxed.

"Cobra, what can I do for you?" She asked while looking directly at the snake.

"Seems to me you've grown accustomed to my friend." I said, Rouge only took a drag of the cigarette in her hands and blew a small smoke cloud.

"Well, us fixers need to have a calm mind in order to do business, but something tells me it's not that." I had the snake nod its head, signifying my agreement.

"You are correct, since I have arrived, I don't know a single thing about rippers, or implants…." Before I could continue she cut me off

"So, your still a fleshy, well that makes a lot of sense." She said, her eyes glowed yellow and I soon received a few directions in different parts of the city.

"These are some rippers who owe me some favors, tell them I sent you, and they'll give you a discount." She then ended the call, leaving me to stare at the directions.

"Well, it's better than nothing." I muttered out loud and prepared myself for some implants, though I was curious on what I should get.

I began to freshen myself up, preparing myself to head out once again. Only this time, I wore clothes for middle class.

Once I had arrived at the streets, I decided to visit one one the more expensive areas in night city.

The first location was located in Watson, more importantly in the subdistrect called little china.

The man who I was supposed to find is called Viktor, he was mostly where beginning mercs go to, since he wouldn't charge much.

That was my first stop, I was nervous to say the least. I was going to strip my humanity bit by bit, relying on machines to help me gain the advantage.

But as they say, upgrades people, ups grades.

Once arriving at the location, I was confused on what I was seeing. In front of me was not a ripperdoc, but a fortune telling shop.

The shop itself had neon lights, while some beads hanged from the entrance, and finally, the name of the shop was called, Misty's Esoterica.

I looked to the left, then to the right. Nothing showed any signs on where this Viktore was located.

I could only sigh and enter the shop, since the manager might have an idea on where this Viktor is at.

"Jacki, you know I can't, I'm on the clock." As I was about to enter, I stopped and heard a girl giggling.

"C'mon, you can step out for a bit, no one's coming inside." I took the chance to enter, pushing the beads to the side, signaling my arrival.

Once inside, I saw two people. One was a woman who was in her twenties, she wore a large oversized sweater that covered her hands, her hair was spiked and hung around.

While the man had a bulky build, he wore blank pants and a large jacket, underneath was only a tank top, and his hair was tied with a small bun on the back.

"A-ahem, w-welcom to Misty's Esoterica, how can I help you?" She asked, while hitting the man named Jackie on the side.

"Sorry to come in, seeing this." I chuckled, the two of them blushed in embarrassment.

"But I'm here to see Viktore, but it seems I'm in the wrong place." As I mentioned Viktor, Misty became serious, while Jackie himself moved his hand behind him.

"Now, now, no need to be tense, he's here because he's got an appointment." Said a new voice.

The man that entered was wearing a black dress shirt, with a necklace that hung around his neck.

On his right arm was a large tattoo, an image of a man wearing sunglasses. On his left hand were mechanical fingers, all with different tools to help him work.

"Alabast, I presume?" He asked while fixing his sunglasses, I stuck out my hand and wore a smile.

"In the literal flesh." He smiled and gripped my hand, giving it a strong squeeze. Feeling how tight he gripped me, I could tell he used to fight.

"So I can see." He chuckled, taking a look at my body.

"So, what do you have in stock?" Viktore only walked away, motioning for me to follow.

I then turned to the two love birds, who were now at a distance from one another. Misty on the counter, while Jackie sat on one of the chairs.

"If your going to have some fun, do it after hours." I smirked, leaving them blushing once again.

"Hey now, don't go messing with my land lord, she's charging me cheep." Viktor chuckled while leading me to the back.

We soon passed the back door, leading us to the outside. Near the back of the property was some stairs heading down, where Viktore led me.

Once downstairs, I saw a metal gate in front of us. Viktore then pressed a button to the side, causing the gate to slide open.

"Welcome to my clinic, it's not much, but it'll do some good to get you some new implants." He said and widened his arms while walking forward.

As I walked behind him, I began to observe the place. On one side, I saw some lighting equipment above a chair.

Every one of them was aimed at a different angle, not a single shadow could be seen on the chair.

On the other side was a counter, red neon lights shined above it, creating a weird calming atmosphere.

And far into the back, were the implants. Looking at it, I could see some for the arms, some for legs, and the hands as well.

Some implants were made for the nervous system, some were made for the circulatory system, and finally, there were implants that could be used as plating.

What surprised me the most, was their was something for the entire skeleton system. I was intimidated by that, since that meant I would lose the whole thing.

"See what you like?" Viktor asked while adjusting the machine on his left hand. I could only gulp, scared at the sight.

"Uh, y-yeah, just….just taking it all in." I spoke, sensing the nervousness in my voice, Viktore stood up and patted my back.

"Your scared, I cant blame you for that." He began to guide me to the chair, once I had sat down, he grabbed his own chair and rolled in front of me.

"But you got those implants on your arms, shouldn't you have gotten used to it?" He asked, I looked at my arms, forgetting I had them.

"Let's just say, I was forced to have them." He looked at me with sympathy, but then stood up and walked to the side.

Grabbing a large bottle of alcohol and two glasses, he then poured two glasses and handed one to me.

I stared at it for a second, but then took it in my hands. My hands were slightly shaking, causing the liquid to ripple.

"I know what it's like, to loose a part of your humanity." He then tilted his head back, drinking his portion.

"It's scary, replacing a part of you with machines. You don't want to loose yourself, or forget who you were." He then grabbed a cable from a monitor, and held it in front of me.

"But you either have to leave a part of you behind, or, be left behind, forced, or not." Looking at the cable, I didn't want to do it, I didn't want to become more machine.

But he was right, I had to change, I had to leave my old self behind. So, I grabbed the cable, and inserted it into the slots behind my neck.

"Good choice, and welcome to night city." He said and turned to face the monitor, he tapped a few times on the screen.

"Let's see what we're dealing with." He muttered, I felt something entering my head, poking through something that belonged to me.

"Hmm, core looks fine." He muttered and continued to tap the monitor in front of him.

"Motor cortex is great, perfect even, its response time is too good to be true." I was nervous for a second, preparing myself to escape.

"Hey, calm down, I'm not the kind to expose others secrets." He said, he then pulled a large monitor and pulled it in front of me.

"This here is showing what's going on in your body. And this little box right here.." He said while pointing close to the spine, a small box was connected to my brain.

"Is what connects to the motor cortex, allowing you to activate your cyberwear." He then rolled back and grabbed a tablet, tapping it a few times.

"And here are the implants I can give you." Looking at the implants, the ones I could buy are optics.

A few leg implants, some for the arms, some for the nerve, some for the brain, other were armor plates, then there was an implant for the hand, and arms, there was the circulatory system, and finally, the immune system.

"I see, for now, I'll have the optics, I don't want to overload my body with machines just yet." Viktor chuckled at my choice and moved the two monitors away.

"Good choice, since you already have the arms, it's best to work on the eyes." He then grabbed a small mask, and handed it me, then he walked to the side.

"I'll just have to get some anisthetics in you, then I can start carving away." He said and began to tap against a small screen on the side.

Before I placed the mask, I looked at the shot glass in my other hand. I downed it in one go, nearly retching at the taste.

"There we go, time to get to work then." I nodded my head and soon placed the mask on my face, a suction force was felt, latching onto my face.

"Have a nice nap kid, by the time you wake up, it'll all have been a dream." Viktor said, his voice sounding more distorted, and my eyes were feeling heavy.

'Goodbye old me, I'm gonnna miss you.' I thought to myself, soon I was asleep, not knowing what was going to happen.

(A/N) Hey hey, here's Tuesdays, I was tempted to add the teirs and street cred, but I didn't know how to apply it, since if the mc is going to have a double face, I don't think I can expose his merc identity.

So, I decided to just keep it as it is.
