Kai, who had a better angle from the air, noticed what was happening and looked down, specifically at the ground. 

Many soldiers noticed Kai's gesture and followed his line of sight and found the dirt they stepped on had turned into mud. 

"What is this?"

"Mud?"

"No. Is this water?!" 

The soldiers raised their feet in succession to check the sudden appearance of the mud. They were confused because they never expected the ground would turn into mud in an instant.
